I feel like this would fall under abusing the in-game timer though. You can cut out dialogue midway through cutscenes which affects time. I forgot how much, but Supergamer brought it up when he discovered that turning off the sound made all the doors fast.

I made a video on it although I was trying to see if you could do anything else with it lol.

The gif might be more useful though.

Brad spawns on NG, but most people on their first playthrough don't know how he spawns so he's never there.

If you're talking about the FMVs, you have to edit the registry and disable FMVs.

Press Windows key + R and type in regedit > HKEYLOCALMACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > CAPCOM > BIOHAZARD 2 PC. Scroll to Movie Enable and change the value to 0 to disable FMVs.

You don't have to inflict the max damage on the magnum for Final Birkin. This only applies to G-Embryo for the 6 shot kill and 8 shot Train Birkin kill which requires perfect positioning and nonstop quickshots. You just need to make sure you don't cancel your turn after you aim. I use to do it a lot on this boss and I'd end up shooting the floor instead. You won't have to make any aim adjustments when Birkin is slowly moving towards you after auto aim does its thing.

You only end up saving one bullet for the Final Fight sadly. The Birkin loop works, but you have to constantly reposition after every shot which is a complete waste of time BrokeBack

https://www.speedrun.com/re2/guide/ufivh I made this guide a few months ago about Jikkachan's G4 strat. It's more in-depth and can also be used for Claire, but she requires precise aiming to actually use it due to the nature of Grenade Launcher rounds.

You don't need to have LiveSplit or any timer on display if you're not running the PC version. The only reason why the PC version has a mandatory rule for it is, because there are various ways to influence the in-game timer to your advantage whether the player is aware of it or not. So, having the timer on screen makes the verifying process much easier since you can monitor if the timer is being exploited.

All you need is to have the full run done in a single segment or segmented (a run done in multiple takes) if the board supports that format, but we don't track segmented runs here. Your run also has to meet these conditions to finally be accepted which are not having the audio muted, no frame drops (small quantities are acceptable) and the result screen is present in the video.

You can also check this thread for more about submitting runs. It's a general guideline so it doesn't contain any board specific rules for each respective RE game. https://www.speedrun.com/resident_evil/thread/a1ykt

Caution = 100 Red Caution = 40 Danger = 20

I've never paid too much attention to the reduced damage occurring on attacks that would drop you into caution, but it's happened to me with the licker a few times. I'll be sitting at 120 HP and get hit only to remain in fine condition at 105 HP lol. As for a zombie bite, I have never seen it do less damage at that threshold trigger. It seems to always do full damage regardless. I tried setting up my HP so that I could tank a hit and assume it would deal 20 HP instead of 30 HP, but it still managed to drop me into caution.

This is what I can remember off the top of my head. Nurmat ran the US version of RE2 for GCN Emu and has gotten pretty solid times on it. He's also done TAS videos for both the JP and US versions. The difference was a lot smaller than expected with only having a few secs separating the two. I'll just randomly guess with the time since I never properly measured how much time loss there was.

US/PAL

  • Auto Aim is not present except on Control Type C for PS1? It has to be manually turned on in the menu on most versions. If you are playing the PC version you're stuck with no auto aim sadly. This applies to JP's arranged mode for PC as well.
  • Zombies are much more aggressive and will generally shuffle towards players much quicker. Damage remains the same.
  • Extra zombies at the beginning area of A scenario, 1 additional dog and licker in the basement.
  • A few items are rearranged (mostly ammo) and there's more health present on the US/PAL versions.
  • Most of the dodges done on JP work on the US version including the infamous Blue Hall "Yolo Horde",

A Scenario

  • The main street area for A scenarios has two extra zombies at the beginning that are always near Kendo's Gunshop. The zombies are positioned differently, but it's not slower to run through compared to JP.
  • Outside of the RPD gates has zombies arranged differently. Again not enough to impede movement since you use the same line you would on JP to get across.
  • RPD Balcony has two extra zombies which slow these things down a bit. Depending on well you can move past these zombies you'll lose 3-6 secs of time here.
  • There's an extra basement licker you have to deal with. It's not too bad to be honest if you know the proper movement. I'd say you lose about 1-4 secs doing the dodge.
  • The crocodile can inflict 60 or 40 damage.
  • In the Turntable Cabin the extra ammo placed inside is located inside the toilet instead of on the floor across from the key. This is actually a much better spot compared to JP.
  • Final Birkin at the end has slightly less health. On JP it takes about 11 Magnum rounds to finish the fight. US/PAL only requires 10. 3 for the G3 form and 8 for G4 form. 1 sec time save.

B Scenario

  • Mr. X is actually better on this version. He has a 50/50 chance of dealing two different damage values with either his right or left arm, you may receive less damage in return if you're lucky. His left does slightly less damage so you'll always want to tank the left arm if you can in most cases. Left arm can inflict 30 or 20 damage while right arm does 45 or 30 .
  • Balcony here is much more worse and trying to get a no damage dodge is next to impossible as Claire. 2-6 sec time loss.
  • Final Birkin has less HP. Would assume it's going to be 1 less shot than its JP counterpart if you're using GL or Magnum.

SRT 1.0 and 1.1 pertain to the version of the game you have installed. You would use 1.1 only if you have the 1.1 patch installed and 1.0 is without it. The 1.2 SRT is simply an updated one that has boss health added to it along with a new UI and supports both 1.0 and 1.1 versions of the game. Just grab either SRT 1.0 if you didn't update or SRT 1.2 if you're looking to have boss health on the UI.

I wouldn't recommend keyboard for this game at all. It's impossible to utilize the hybrid controls (original and arrange controls together) with keyboard as far as I know. You're pretty much stuck with one or the other. However, you do gain the ability to navigate a tad bit quicker using the mouse in the inventory. This is mostly useful for huge leaps like getting to slots 5-8 instantly. But, you could just use the controller and have the mouse preemptively ready on-screen, or you can just learn to dual input by using the d-pad and analog together for inventory.

I checked the game page and we currently have the Twitch name as 'Resident Evil'. Pretty much the only way you'll appear on here is by setting it up as that. As confusing as it is, I think it's much easier to have the original and remake share the same name universally. Most people can identify the releases without trouble. I also hate that Capcom added HD Remaster to the HD release's title Kappa

Nice to see you here, Trevor! Hope things have going well for you since your departure from speedrunning. Thanks for all the time and effort you put in during your active years. I learned a lot from watching your REmake runs!

You can't run PS1 games through PSP emulation the same way it works on the actual handheld. PSP and PS emulator are in the same category since they run virtually identical to each other.
