@dark-Aries Cyber has had to communicate individually with each of you and only recently has the staff gotten together as a group to discuss this. I know from personal experience that staff doesn't communicate with people and each other nearly as well as they should (based on the Combo Rush fiasco of being promised restreamers for a marathon and being told at the last minute that nobody would be around to help).

Honestly this whole decision has me befuddled. I thought the whole entire point of NASA existing in the first place was to be a fun runner-driven marathon for people to hang out with each other that was free from the pressures and regulations of GDQs. If that's the case, then why are staff prioritizing the stream and viewers over the runners?

This honestly isn't a hard decision. At the cost of less viewers and less stream traffic, you get several thousand dollars (which means either a smaller or negated attendance fee and an end to operating at a loss), a website and staff that would work with you 24/7 to make your event a success (as opposed to Twitch's erratic support quality), and far more lax rules about what could be said and what could happen on stream. Not to slam the guy (because he is based) but jymotion's drunken escapades last event could easily have gotten the stream banned. Either you're going to have to put measure into place that are going to prevent another indecent like that from happening (which means more rules) or you could go to a website that does not care at all if that happens.

Please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this. I don't want to think that NASA is betraying its core values and founding principles for something as transient as attention, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a logical alternative that explains why the stream.me offer was turned down in favor of sticking with Twitch.

I really think a StreamMe partnership deserves more consideration than NASA staff has given at the moment. A lot of the drawbacks I have seen for not using StreamMe either are very minor or simply don't exist. I think far too much weight is being placed on transient viewers gained from Twitch.

What's the fastest version for each category?

I'm bringing my desktop from last year as a backup and practice PC. It has 2 1080p monitors, a wireless card, a USB to audio device, Razer peripherals, a large SSD with plenty of space for games, and plenty of custom controller and video drivers.

I also have a Sony PVM-14L5 I can bring, which is a very nice 14" monitor that does composite, s-video, component, and RGB. It also has a built-it splitter and amplifier.

I have Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI which is an extremely high-end capture card with pass-through and which accepts all console analogue video formats and supports up to 1080p HDMI.

I have a bunch of various high-end splitters and tons of extra cables.

In terms of consoles, I have an N64, a PS2, a softmodded original Xbox, a PS3, a backwards-compatible softmodded Wii, and an Xbox 360, though to keep down space, I'm probably only going to bring consoles for runs that I personally get accepted.

It's a tricky subject, and there's no easy answer. I'd use ShockEd (https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=387.0) and try to get more detail about the triggers.

My policy has always been that if you record a run of a new category you want, it'll be added to the boards. I don't like creating empty categories.

Good points Puck. I guess I'm just worried that if we flood new players with too much information they might get scared and run off. I think we could solve this by having guides for various levels of play, like beginner or expert.

I feel like fight-specific stats would get very cumbersome very quickly. I think the better option is to teach players the mechanics of the combat and use that as a building block for them to understand how to do each fight.

Combat in this game is like a language. You could teach set phrases for most situations, but if you run into a situation that isn't taught you're out of luck. It's much better to teach the system behind the language so that someone can create their own sentences rather than parrot set ones.

Something for your mind, your body, and soul. Need to make one for Vergil but it's been a while and my memory is a bit foggy.

Given that this is a PC game there's pretty much nothing we can do to stop cheated runs except be more diligent in the future

The runs were sketchy so they're not on the leaderboard. They're still fantastic learning resources and I encourage everyone to study them.

Hello. Glaedr made a Discord server several months ago and tweeted it out a couple times in hopes of seeing if anybody is interested in learning DMC 3 or 4 (these are preferred because nobody has learned learned DMC 1 and 2 yet). This server is mainly related to speedrunning and does not have much relevance towards playing the game stylishly, but if that's what you're interested in, I could assist in that as well.

For those who do not know what Discord is, I would like to call it the replacement to other voice programs like Skype and Mumble. You do not have to download it if you don't want and it has a very clean, easy to use interface. There are no "calls" like Skype has as the server channels are up 24/7 and the only time Discord goes down is for updates.

If anybody reading this is interested, I'm always glad to help new runners. Here is the Discord server. https://discord.gg/0SkFsWR2JWoRBE5J

Lloyd, I thought my transition from Normal to Turbo was going to be painful, but I honestly got used to it in less than a week and never looked back. I'd suggest giving it a week. Not using it means you're playing with a massive handicap for speedruns.

Should super costumes be their own category?

Georgia, USAPvtCb7 years ago

I've never made an IL board because the strats for IL times are really awful unless you have restrictions.

That being said, if someone wants to do them I'll make the board for them.
