If it was just the new layout, I doubt most people would care, the change seems fairly lateral to me.
But removing custom themes strikes me as a fundamental misunderstanding of what people even like about this website, and I have no idea what the hell was going through your head when you thought removing it would wash even vaguely well. It was unpopular when it demo'ed back on Twitter months back, so you knew that. You went and locked your Twitter before rolling this change out, so you knew people would hate it. (edit: ok this isn't the reason for that but the actual reason for that is so much worse and not a topic for this thread lol) You didn't even need to run an opinion poll or something although that would've probably made it super clear in advance that people were going to universally hate this change.
So then, the million dollar question is "Why"? Why roll out a change like that if you knew it wasn't going to be liked?
And it's a question I seriously want to posit because I don't think you're being honest with your userbase here, and that's not going to fly.
"I thought most of them looked bad" is an incredibly condescending and disrespectful take for deleting hundreds of users hard work in making pages look good. Customizability is one of this site's greatest assets, not a weakness. I categorically do not agree that most of them looked bad, because most of the higher traffic pages have communities who put the effort into making them look good, because most of the users have a vested interest in making it not look terrible. They're the ones who have to use the page, after all. There are some shitters who make things look bad. Who cares. Deal with it on a moderation level instead of making the entire website boring for everyone, you are pretty much the only one who cares about it looking "clean" and anyone else who does has always had the "Override Custom Themes" option, but apparently that's not important.
Either you consider your opinion more important than the thousands of users who were totally fine with it before, or you're being evasive about something. I honestly can't tell. Only adding back "some" of the customization options is a half-ass, you should be expanding on this featureset, not deleting it. In a shitty web 2.0 world where individuality is actively quashed in favour of The Brand, it baffles me that you're attempting to pull that same stunt here.
To what end? Is there some sort of endgame to this? Time was spent encouraging the communities that already had external leaderboards to sync up and use sr.c instead including those on Google Docs, only to roll out a change like this to make it uniform? What's the game here? Is this some sort of business thing you're angling at? Because between this change and slathering GSA garbage over the front page, you seem more interested in making changes that benefit whatever Brand you're trying to build here instead of improving core functionality or fixing the myriad stability issues.
Of course, who knows? That's just my mistrustful intuition talking, I don't know for certain because you don't actually inform us at all what you're planning on doing with this place long-term. I would absolutely love to hear in precise detail what your thought process is behind making changes like this with no warning, because then maybe I won't feel inclined to make paranoid posts like this.
Bring back custom themes. In Full. This change represents a completely backwards sense of priorities that I highly suggest you re-examine in the future. As it stands, you're doing a great imitation of every bad tech platform redesign in the past half decade or so.
This is cool, but what precisely are you doing to achieve this effect? I can't quite figure it out from looking.
I'd be more inclined for it not to be a sub-category, especially given there's like, no uniformity in load times even among the console versions of this game. If anything, PC standardises it out a bit rather than it being a jumble of PS3/360 Disc/Digital HDD/SDD. Separating out PC for that reason seems a bit...disingenuous? For lack of a better word.
Concept: buy Goth Bondage Coat for Joshua.
W1D5: Purchase a Crepe instead of a Hot Dog and save it for Joshua. W2D2: use a fusion when farming Tektite to guarantee 3 tektite drops, one for Joshua's fusion, two for GBC. (or just yolo it it does happen) W2D3: in my current PB by this day Joshua has hit 50 BRV with no boosts (he starts at 39 + whatever your level is), so +4 from Crepe should put it up to 54 BRV which is exactly what you need for Goth Bondage Coat, at near enough exactly when it's possible to buy it here when you visit A-East
W2D6: you may need to put off buying the 3 x Sparkling Silvers and 3 x Brave + until this point if you buy GBC that early to make sure you have enough money, but honestly money isn't that tight throughout this run? You're dropping an assload of pins all the time.
doing this would let you have GBC as early as Day 3 for Joshua which would presumably save a chunk of time across the remainder of his days
flaws:
- there's not actually that many fights in his days from that point but idk you still need to buy it for Beat anyway
- conflicts with Denim Blouse for W2D5 D+B Wall
- where the hell do I put cure pin in a deck with only four slots!! (maybe just yolo it and don't at all)
Felt like sharing nevertheless, maybe it gives some of you a think.
Minor concept I wanna spitball, but perhaps it's worth considering skipping Shiki's Fusion Boost. You only ever use a fusion once during her week on Cornix and a Level 1 is totally sufficient to one shot. We never actually use a level 2 at any point and it's probably a DS route holdover unless I'm missing something.
This would save you two Scarletite to do...something with?
I've considered using that extra two Scarletite to pick up the Extra Slot from Edoga 104 (it appears on week 2 day 5 but you don't have to grab it that early), which would also take an additional four rare metal and one tektite. You can take care of the tektite during the one bit where you farm for Tektite. The four rare metal are probably worth grabbing to have an extra damage pin whenever you can grab it (I would use Casual Pendulum particularly because with the Goth Bondage Coat you have Cure Drink eating a slot I'd otherwise use for it.)
thumbs up emoji
nice
Trying to add a game to the Silent Hill series and it just pops an "Error, Invalid Game" message instead of actually creating a new board.
this is happening to two of the series mods
Wait until the game comes out, dingus, it comes out December 4th.
- someone with reasonably close ties to the developer
between y'all I actually feel like Final/Solo Remix and the DS original probably ought to have had separate boards rather than the current organisation, because they're pretty different. DS NG+ makes enough sense for DS, not so much FR.
it's not really too late to pull that off or anything, so might as well put that forward.
there's a noise filter?
edit: oh it's labelled "Noise Effect" in the options. it's been off in my runs for years so I forgot the game even had one, yeah it's allowed.
dunno why it wouldn't be
Tried it, GBC unlocks at FSG Lvl 5 on english Switch. I don't have the Japanese version to test, but nothing else seems to be different between JP/ENG on Final Remix so I'd be kinda surprised if that's the thing that differs
I found a lot of that post to be kind of strange. I don't think anyone really cares about the meta-narrative justification of single segment versus segmented and the entire point about streaming being a factor as not being "pure speedrunning" is a noble thought, but completely doomed to die off. It's also the sort of brazen ignoring of the modern performative era that led to SDA's fading relevance in the first place.
but really the decline in segmented is very simple, they're fiddlier to produce than single segment.
now the tech to record/stream single segment is easy to do, people do that instead. Segmented is less user-friendly to produce and isn't as interesting in a live, performative setting which is where gaming as an entire hobby, much less speedrunning has slanted to over the years.
that's it really, anything else is overcomplicating it.
oh yeah while we're talking about NG+ rules, they seem to specify King Pendant as a banned item for being "post-game"
Is that a DS thing or what?
incidentally I'm favourable to unrestricted NG+
Fwiw I generally think ATK focused builds are almost certainly more beneficial in Final Remix. You build meter pretty fast in co-op already, fusions are slow as balls and we often are just building meter that doesn't get used.
I wouldn't know how to turn all of that stuff above into a cohesive route, but I definitely agree it's something that'd probably turn out worth. Shiki already hits like a brick shithouse, the only time you ever really need a fusion during her week is Day 7 Bird Dude and a Level 1 suffices perfectly fine, ATK build or no.
yeah it works fine on solo/final remix. Also, yes, "Normal or Higher" makes perfect sense.
edit: also innocence beam kinda owns so I'm board with this suggestion
wait why is bumping the difficulty /up/ a problem wtf
also hahaha I just checked my run back and Level 2 fusion whiffed twice on the second phase of Tigress for no reason
that fight is fucking broken lmao
did another run
Observations: Masamune evolves into Nenekiri so yeah use that. But Love Me Tether can also now evolve into Sweet Talk Tether with BPP, and that pin is an excellent choice, good for lockdown, good for meter build, hits lots of stuff at once so it's a choice pick for the difficult Uzuki/Kariya fights and the last two fights, generally I think it's a much better choice than Meteor Magnet.
Cure Drink also proves largely unnecessary over the run. Fusions get used for panic healing more than Drink does. As a safety for the Uzuki/Kariya fights sure, but otherwise you're either using Fusions to heal or aren't even close to kicking the bucket. In this light, I'd put Love Me Tether on over it so it can gain levels instead and evolve into Sweet Talk Tether sooner.
OJ/House Blend/Hamburger aren't really necessary. Buy Hot Dogs instead for Attack for Joshua. And saving money across the rest of the run means it's possible to grab an ATK Capsule for Beat when you pop by Shibu Q-Heads on Week 2 Day 6, my run managed to get another pair of them digested for Neku and Beat which got bought in Week 3 Day 5 but that assumes you get a couple random Reaper battles on Day 6, which you probably will a lot of the time but don't actually want.
there were decent stretches of the run where I didn't really have anything to feed Neku and co though for want of 6 byte food that actually makes any meaningful difference, Sync is just way less important in this version. And buying OJ just to feed them something is just wasting time and money for no palpable gain given how fast you build meter in this version.
i still haven't really worked in anything concerning an ATK focused setup for Beat but given how much money you're not doing anything with at that point in the run I also think it's something to look into. I'll probably give it a try on my next run.
As far as what to do with Neku's 4th item slot if not Naraka. Could just leave the Nylon waistpack on? That way you'd have 12% meter build and you'd save a lot of money from not buying Narakas since they're like 11,000 yen a pop and I'm not sure the benefit derived from letting Joshua have one is worth the 38,000 yen it takes to get the ability for the thing if Beat isn't going to use it at all and if it's not really mathematically worth for Neku? it seems more prudent to save the cash for Beat's ATK Build if that whole angle pans out.
I don't know how random BRV from fights work but it's probably not too reliable.
It's levelling. Every level gives you 1 BRV, there's nothing random about it but it can vary a bit because of fusion multiplier.
