It needs to be installed into the hardware of the console. That can be done by you through soldering (I think, at least, I'm not familiar with 3DS capture cards) or by usually the seller who offers an installation service too if you send them your console.

I agree! Since there are 36 karts in the game, having to choose a different one for each track can also be very fun! It might even be more interesting than using the same combination of the staff ghosts, as this time you have to find strategies for which kart is better for each track and so on.

I personally think that something like this could be a bit """boring""", in the sense that at the end of the day it's a simple 32 tracks speedrun done a bit differently. Ideally what would be pretty cool is to do the exact same thing but using only the same exact combination of the staff ghost. That would be very interesting and fun I think. I'd definitely be in favour of such a speedrun.

Emulators are allowed in every category of speedrun.com. Emulators are not allowed in sites such as Cyberscore and the Players' Page.

As a fellow moderator of a popular game, I cannot believe someone thought this is fine. Dear moderators, the leaderboards of this site aren't your leaderboards: as stated in the Knowledge Base of speedrun.com, the leaderboards hosted here are the community's leaderboards. I am not going to judge whether this decision is right or makes sense, what I am going to say is that it is unacceptable to go against the playerbase's consensus. This situation could have been handled way better: I understand that you may not want to take the risk of adding more moderators to help out, but at least make a public poll to check if the players themselves feel alright with this. Removing runs done before this rule was applied also is very unfair to the players who do not speedrun this game anymore. I hope the situation will turn to the best for the speedrunners and the players of this game.

You can use any pattern, really. I think the faster pattern would be the one with less pauses though, so maybe a 32-12-12 approach is better.

I have found a couple more channels with No-MT and No-R runs, so I have added them. They are:

I have also added all the Best Laps and Alternative Route runs which can be found in these channels (apart from the ones listed above):

With these times, a couple of BKTs, done by mkdasher, 'Taiga', Rupa and 'Layton', have been included, most notably No-MT Rainbow Road 3lap, Rainbow Road No Corner Cuts and a bunch of No-MT and No-R Best Laps.

Question About Best Lap Categories for No R, No MT, No D-Pad, Etc.

Yes, Best Lap times are taken from a standard full course run, however it does not mean you cannot use all the three items in the same lap: as long as the whole run is done by following the rules of the category you are competing in, then the time is legit.

Here are some examples, to make this more clear:

  • Using 3 Mushrooms in a Best Lap run IS allowed.
  • Pressing the R button (in No-R) or doing a Mini-Turbo (in No-MT) before your Best Lap is NOT allowed. This goes for No D-Pad too, you cannot start a Best Lap run on lap 2 or 3 with a better angle set with the usage of D-Pad.

Alternative Routes Leaderboards Suggestions

With the addition of the Alternative Routes category, many strategies and leaderboards can be made! For now, only these tracks have Alt. Routes:

  • Yoshi Falls (1)
  • Bowser Castle (3)
  • Rainbow Road (1)
  • GCN Luigi Circuit (1 but Best Lap-only)
  • GBA Sky Garden (1)

If you have an Alternative Route strategy and you would like to have the leaderboards for it, ask us to add it in this thread by linking a video of your run and a brief description of what the alternative route is. Thanks!

You have found No-R, No-MT or Alternative Route runs done years ago that are not in the leaderboards? Let us know in this thread! Just post the time, the player and the source where you got the time from.

Also, all the times that have been submitted to the leaderboards of the Nsider threads are NOT included in the speedrun.com leaderboards, because I have not found any archive or backup of these threads. If you have a backup of these threads, please send them here! Thanks!

In this thread, I will keep track of the updates for MKDS:GKE. I will start with the latest update, 1.2.

Version 1.2 added:

  • Bignana: replaces Cucumber. Bignana is a track specialist: in fact, in Yoshi Falls, this kart can use the waterfalls as cannon, to skip entire portions of the track. This aside, Bignana offers to you 100 frames of Mini-Turbo boost, the best handling in the vanilla game and an average speed and drift.
  • Golden Musher: replaces Mushmellow. Golden Musher really is a giant Golden Mushroom. In all senses: it knows exactly how you would use mushrooms. To cut off-road. Yeah. Golden Musher knows that. In fact, Golden Musher will bring you to the speed of light if you off-road. Yep, off-road now feels like a zipper on steroids. However, this comes with a cost: 49 frames of Mini-Turbo and extremely low speed on-road. But hey, tracks like Desert Hills or GBA Sky Garden should end up being very fun to play nonetheless!

Resources Update and Categories Addition

Well, MKDSDX is a lot more dead than EKDS, and it probably will stay like this for a good while since now CTGP-N is released. But I still wanted to do 2 small things: The first one is to add a lot of resources, pretty much everything you need to patch the game along with small useful additions. The second one is the addition of categories: I've added Non-PRB, PRB and SC. Non-PRB doesn't allow PRB and Glitch-SC, PRB doesn't allow Glitch-SC and SC allows everything. Along with those, I've added a flap category for all of these. I don't think we will receive any activity unless in SC tracks which are very cool to break, but I still felt like to do this. No reason at all. And from Pika, that's all.
