Good to know, yeah It took me around 5 minutes I think, will have to look at my vods again :) With the ECG Squirellies provided boss fights gotten a hell lot easier, and transparent on when nemmy takes damage. Will save some ammo

i.e.: When fighting flamethrower nemmy his screams make him somewhat invulnerable

GermanyPaxtonMega4 years ago

Got a 1:22:47 on assisted just now :) No NG+ items and many messups

Edit: Actually got that down to 1:10:54

GermanyPaxtonMega4 years ago

I'd guess getting both coins and all upgrades could do the trick, minding to get all the gunpowders AND the reloading tool from the unlocks too to quench more ammo out of crafting. It's gonna have to be a NG+ cat it seems.

GermanyPaxtonMega4 years ago

Huh, that would make sense. I was asking myself how I'd get the weakpoint to show. I kind of wasted all mine grenades in the first minutes by sticking em to nemmy. Only used that strat on the waste disposal nemmy later. Thanks! Will try :)

GermanyPaxtonMega4 years ago

Anyone got a gist on the Clocktower Nemmy fight? On my first playthrough (standard) it took a bazillion grenades to take him down. Is there a faster way for this? A trick I didn't see?

Also, I'd love to know if the Carlos Tower defence (heck, his punch feels like a hero ability haha) is a timed thing or if you have to kill a certain amount of zombies and the two hunters (at least in the three attempts I tried out only two hunters were prowling about)

Until we got a guide and resources section, mind jotting your observations down here folks?

GermanyPaxtonMega6 years ago

I'd hand in about the same as Dara, as for the unique stuffs like unlocking the SMG for the second scenario: single cat, leave it out entirely as it doesnt fit in one run, both scenarios in one run, leave it in. My two scents.

As for Mr. X. I never tried to kill him every time, we'll have to check if the ammo is enough.

This includes killing Brad for the special key right? Thats a challenge in itself Kappa.

I'd be hecka interested in the 100% runs, would run em.

Yep, threw it on my install just now, still the timer only starts, but won't split when loading a new map. Rewrote the whole event setup for subsplits too, same outcome :(

There is no difference between Quake 2 versions when using Q2Pro right? I'm not using the steam version since germans don't get to buy it, I'm using a retail version

If I'm required to buy Q2 on steam tho, and there is the possibility of having it gifted from the UK I could do that if that might be the problem?

GermanyPaxtonMega6 years ago

Thanks for the welcome and the setup :) I set up the splits as shown on your screenshots, but the problem persists: Livesplit starts the timer and even pauses it when loading but it won't split the sections, it just stays on Outer Base and keeps counting :/

I used a retail version of Quake 2 and copied the Q2pro starter onto it, also tried using Q2Starter installation with the point release but no luck so far.

I am using the default layout, kept everything on "Current Timing Method" and just set the whole thing to "Game Time" by right clicking. Started both Q2pro and Livesplit in Admin-Mode, no luck.

Any hints on what might be causing this?

GermanyPaxtonMega6 years ago

Hey fellas, I am currently trying to set everything up to get into running Quake 2 (coming from the RE community yay) and ran into some problems

I've set up Livesplit to my liking, got two timers running: One for Game-Time (set to compare game time) and one for Real Time (set to compare real time) as well as activated Autosplits. Oddly enough the first few tests the Autosplit started the timer but refused to split on new maps

  • Do I have to put in the map name for every event, cause they are all empty for me

Next problem was, it didn't stop the timer when I disconnected or closed down the game (well, the game timer did, but real time kept running on)

Now, after fiddling with it it refuses to start whatsoever...

Someone up for helping the newb? :D

You proposed it, I stole it, we all benefit. U mad bruv? Kappa

¤¤¤ TESTING LOG ¤¤¤

Currently testing: Accuracy of gameplay + Framedrop detection

CONFIRMED WORKING

  • Method runs with IGT timers as well as Live Split and Auto-Splits. Does not interfere with process watch

HEADS UP:

  • Game should be set to Win 98 compatibility so it runs smoother, allthough now I got the annoying sound bug because of said compatibility, will test further
GermanyPaxtonMega8 years ago

PLEASE NOTE: This is no official fix as of yet, testing will decide if we can use this for runs or not, just want to leave it here so everyone can jump on the band wagon and resize the shiz out of RE2! =)

Download: https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/

--- RUN THE PROGRAM AS ADMIN

Add Bio2 to your tasks inside DXWND, right click it and choose "modify"

Under "Main" set

  • Hook Enabled
  • Run in Window
  • Hook All DLL's

set x and y coordinates to 0,0 , set the window size to whatever you'd like it to be

Under "Video" set

  • Lock Win Coordinates
  • Force Win Resize

Upon starting the game press F8 for the fullscreen mode (it will remember it even the next time you start it)

Voila, Bio 2 in whatever resolution you want it to be, even stretchable to 720 or 1080p!

P.S. : I need to test if this method messes with anything related to IGT or FPS, so use it at your own risk at this moment, take care <3

GermanyPaxtonMega8 years ago

Yeah, confirmed, lotta strats only work on higher frames, works now thanks to the new build. Thanks for everybody chiming in to discuss =)

GermanyPaxtonMega8 years ago

On Altria's note: On my playthrough I found it really hard to even try and mash through any text. Often, as you say, it just pops up and you are pretty much prone to insta mashing the first choice in puzzles and such.

Edit: I'd like to adress a few things that I very much like (and hate) about Zero, here as well:

  • No door skipping

It's finally nice to just have to roll with door loading times instead of losing time to runners that skip better ( Kappa)

  • No Stair Skating

God I hated that on REmaster, didn't even attempt anything on it just because of that. As much as I love speedrunning, blisters on my thumb because I had to mash every other minute... nah :D

  • Dodges

Well, the lunge dodge still works on Zero but I feel like the grab-frames (certified paxton-speak, patend pending Kappa ) are a little larger than on REmaster. After the lunge Zombies get me from weird angles, and don't get me started on leeches, which basically train in on you if you get too close to a corner with them. But hey, that's pretty much gonna be what makes and breaks runs, especially the kitchen in the training center, hot damn, grab fest galore.

Other than that the game runs very smoothly and the only BS moment is probably the Training Range, where you get like a split second to react to the hunter. If done a bit clever the free-movement of the Leech Queen should not be a problem at the last boss fight, played it tonight on hard mode, if you get a feeling for the time rebecca needs to reach and interact with the valves you can get enough room between you and the queen ;)

GermanyPaxtonMega8 years ago

So now that the game is out and I'm getting a new gfx card in a few days I could go from 30 FPS to 60 or variable. Is there allready a verdict on wether the 60FPS are faster as they are on REmaster or is it the same for real this time?

I managed to get it to 55 FPS on some areas (thanks GTX 745, I trusted you ¤gnarf¤) yet it did not essentially feel that much faster, just a tad smoother. Everything else in terms of runs is quite self explanatory, just as usual the tech side of the PC version.

Would be cool to hear what's more desirable, and wether to wait for the new card or start runs beforehand if 30FPS is essentially the same =)

Edit: Also, we should get the forum background a bit darker, hard to read comments with my withered 23 year old eyes Kappa

I am currently looking into the categories of different FF games to spark my interest in maybe picking up some Speedrunning on my own for 3,4,7 or 8 and I noticed the NG+ category.

What exactly IS NG+? From the ones I watched so far I couldn't see big differences, but since it is a whole category on it's own I'd like to know what the deal about it is. My google skills are weak and I was not able to find comprehensive Information on the matter.

Moderators? Runners? Help me out here! :D

Was exactly that! I seemed to have remembered the enemies wrong tho, it was the protagonist with his Rambo Weave Kappa

Thanks for the quick reply, finally found my lost treasure! ^_^

Sup fellow Speedrunners!

I remember playing a certain NES game when I was a kid but I can't happen to remember the name of it. Maybe some of you guys know which it could be from the following stuff I remember still:

  • You were throwing boomerangs as a weapon
  • The environment was mostly city based, mostly abandoned looking
  • Your enemies were Dudes with vests, tank tops or shirtless with Mohawks (NES graphics OP Kappa )
  • I don't completely remember but I am pretty sure there were Power-Ups for your boomerang

That is pretty vague, but the game was awesome in my memory and I'd like to find it again. As said, some of you may know what I am talking about or are simply good at using google in ways my noob-skill does not allow :D Any Help greatly appreciated!

Nicely done Soliduz (^_^)b

Got a question for you guys. I bought the Jungle Fatigues DLC, looks pretty sweet and it does not feature any extras from what I've seen, other than the design (unlike the sneaking suit which muffles steps). Can we probs agree to be able to use that too? I feel like using an MGS3 skin for the Subsistence Category fits perfectly! :D

GermanyPaxtonMega8 years ago

So, I tested Patch 1.4 Last night:

Judging by the video length RTA and IGT are close, but I did not cap the FPS to 30, will do that for the next test run (simply forgot it :() Do we still need to do that? So, I clicked out of the window a few times, RTA is around 1:23:xx, IGT states 1:25:xx, so it's a bit off, even tho RTA is less AND I clicked out of the window.

My Mistakes? Any Explanation on how that came to be?

In terms of Usage: I used Hardware-mode with a resized window and just window capped it with OBS. No crashes, no weird slowdowns or speedups, Graphical glitches only in 2 areas that I really noticed. Clean, perfect. A Chris run will follow some time soon-ish.

From my perspective this is very much runable in terms of stability, especially since Door-Skips Kappa Yet the IGT and RTA thing, I dunno, might have been on my end!

Thanks Supergamer, your work is AWESOME and deserves a Badass-Seal-of-Approval <3
