I've created a discord channel for WWTBAM games.
I've done so due to some increased interest in the series. There are a lot of different ports and versions of this game in existence, and accurate information pertaining to these different versions is incredibly sparse online. I'm hoping that by adding this discord, it will help add consistency to the games in this series, address issues and concerns as they may arise, and get information for those curious.
I realize these games aren't very popular among speedrunners, so I don't currently expect a huge number of people coming in and discussing these runs very seriously; but I needed something for adding games to the series and getting the most accurate information for the games as needed.

I've made a server so that new game requests, and cross series issues could be addressed as needed. If there is a version of this game is not up and you'd like to see added, please join and let me know (since Series notifications do not work).
So I had sort of theorized about trying to restart runs until you could get one with a small hill right before the starting point to speed yourself up. But the new run uses the jump button to somehow get some serious speed starting. When verifying the run, I went into the game and try to do something similar. It does appear that sometimes when using the jump mechanic, you'll pick up a lot of speed, while others you won't. I'm not sure what causes this, so I was wondering if anyone might have an idea about how to control this speeding up happening with the jumping. It also appears that if you right before a rock, you also jump further and pick some up some speed. On Shalom, clearly this could only be done in the first and last segment of the race as their is no room to try to jump further when actually dodging flags.
Hey y'all. Notice someone got caught stealing videos and using them to make their own fake ones. A couple of their runs I had verified got taken down. I generally do a verification of runs to make everything and the run looks good and legit, but I'm not really sure there is an easy and quick way to verify that a video I'm looking at isn't actually just a rip or copy of someone else's video? I mean, obviously if the YouTube account is clearly not theirs that is one thing; but the fellow in question was taking videos, putting their own overlays on top of them and reuploading them? Any tips for trying to prevent this form of shennigan?
Just curious, but this game is pretty well ported, so I was curious if this lb accommodates runs from like Sega CD and Turbografx and such?
So, I've been back to grinding this game for the last couple of days and just wanted to share a couple of observations.
First, the 10810 (which should actually be called the 10910) is not the fastest possible intro. If the spring is released a couple of compression animations sooner, there is a 9600 intro. It gets the ball to your left paddle in 19 seconds, as opposed to 22, and one of the possible shots you can take from is one that can be shot onto the bumper for a couple bounces. It nets 22xxx points is roughly the same time. Granted far more difficult.
But tbh, I think even this strategy will no longer work. Put simply, the slot machine bonus on the top page is key. A couple days ago, I got half a second behind my record. 500 attempts later though, and I'm not getting close again. On Game B, the 3 minute record is a perfect example of why it's going to be necessary to essentially get the God run.
So there is some good news. If the ball is released at the spring's maximum point, the ball bounces in such a way that it will land on the left bumper (not 100%. there is an alternative bounce it does. I suspect this has to do with alternating possibilities dictated by odd and even frames). There is a frame available with the left paddle that gives you a clean shot to the right loop. You hit and the roulette starts.
The roulette has three possibilities. All 3's, all 7's or all penguins. The 3's and 7's stand for seconds the bonus will last. The screen turns red instead of blue, and the middle safety bumper appears. This will last 3 or 7 seconds long. The penguins though, enable the bonus indefinitely AND, the most important part, it doubles all the points you get while it is active. The only two things that will deactivate the bonus is if you drop below via the left channel, or if you spin the roulette wheel again by getting the right-side loop.
So the new real strategy is this. Shoot at maximum spring location, use left paddle to get the roulette going. Get 3 penguins as fast as you can. Then proceed to get points, ideally through some great combination of the three ways to do so. (Heck if anyone can replicate the GOD BOUNCE my WR does now, with the bonus, would net 60k+ points).
The what sucks though, is that, given there isnt some other factor, the roulette wheel has a 1/27 chance of being all three penguins. You got less than a 4% chance of getting all the penguins, and very easy to mess up after the fact still.
Additionally, Game B is no different in this regard. Game B contains all the same patterns, just every thing is sped up, which makes the first shot you need to do a little bit tighter.
In any case, I'm going to try for it for a bit. If anyone can get it, they should definitely be able to get a WR that would incredibly difficult to overcome.
So, I was playing around with the GBC version of this game. Note: I have never played any other platform version. So I was looking to see if a board was up for it, and came here and was going to ask, but it seems like the GBC version of the game is literally different in how it plays? For example, I did a test run, and it doesn't even really seem like I'm playing against someone per se.
My guess is that GBC isn't really something that supports split screen, so there is no split screen versus AI going on here. It seems like the multiplayer aspects are reserved for linking Game Boys.
Anyways, I was just wondering if y'all knew anything about this, and if I should request the game as a separate page? Thanks.
Hey. Just noticed that the release types for this game are listed as (US) NTSC and (PAL) Europe.
As far as I can find on the internet on a cursory search, it doesn't look like this game was ever released in Europe or under and PAL version.
However, the game was released in Japan in 1994 on the SuperFamicom a year after it's original release.
It was a way better cover:
For whatever reason, it was released under the title "Super Billiard: Championship Pool" or "スーパービリヤード"
Just wanted to give a head's up in case in Japanese players are looking for it.
So, I have this MAME, but the platform isn't added. Just wanted to check if I should actually submit arcade runs on this page (or make a new one). Thanks.
Hello. Recently came across the MAME version of this game. Was wondering if y'all like to add it as a platform/subcat or would prefer a separate page, which I have no problem making either (would just copy over the current categories). Thanks.
So yeah, I became a mod of this board so I could verify my run a while back. Which, I did. However, there are two categories. They've been there far longer than I've been a mod. There is no discernible way I figure I can tell apart the runs from one category or another.
For some context, here you go: https://www.speedrun.com/gdh2012/full_game
So yeah, I don't really know enough about Windows and keyboards and shit like that to really be verifying any of it. Also, I don't really care enough about this game, or the previous 10 months of issues it's had, so I'd like to unmod myself. The other original supermod, as far as I can determine, hasn't been super active in the past.
Another play is asking to be a mod then since I'd rather not be mod, and other mod has sort of created this board as is, but is no longer here, and it's clearly just... a mess.
In any case, any advice on how to go about this would be appreciated, so thanks.
Hey ya'll.
Question:
On a game I realized that an original port released for Macintosh might not be marked appropriate. So I sought some clarification, but sort found more than I knew what to do with.
The port was released for the Mac Classic. I wasn't sure if that was like... "Mac" or "Apple II"
Is, like, Apple II the computer and Macintosh the OS? Just trying to make sense of this:
https://imgur.com/pUP2MOp (not sure the code for posting a picture)
notes:
From what I can determine, there was the original Apple I; I did find a list of games specific to this: http://www.callapple.org/soft/ap1/games.html
Then the Apple II came out, with variants. It has plenty of games, and an incomplete list can be found on this wikipedia.
Apple IIGS came out next. There is an incomplete list for games associated with this on wikipedia as well.
IN the past IIGS has sort of just fallen under the umbrella of Apple II for the purposes of sr.com so far.
The thing is though is that Apple II is 8-bit, Apple II GS is actually 16-bit. I'm not sure though if a game that came out for the Apple II could be played on an Apple II GS, and if so if that would basically make the game to run faster in anyway. Also not sure if such an issue would occur with emulation of these two systems.
Apple III also came out later, but was a business oriented computer and a massive commercial failure with serious problems with heat displacement. I can't find any mention of a game existing for this system.
However, I've like, never used a Mac before, let alone when I was wee lad with my DOS.
I don't think speedrunning Apple II games on specific Apple II emulator will necessary pick up meaningfully, but just some notes for future considerations, since this whole area might need clarification in the future.
Hey, just did a run of this game.
May I recommend making two subcategories, one for NES, and one for the computer versions of the game? They were released a couple years apart, so they play a little different from one another.
Also, the platforms would be better off as NES, MS-DOS, Apple II, and Commodore 64, as those were the platforms they were released for. I assume the current run up is an MS-DOS emulator; there's a way to mark this.
Cover art for the game can be found here: http://www.mobygames.com/game/classic-concentration/cover-art
Just some suggestions.
Pretty much got everything down except the last hit on Jaws. Any tips for lining that up; it's literally driving me insane.
Was trying to do an Advanced Run real quick, but check this out.
So, is the predominant strategy exactly what it looks like? Pretty much hoping that either 4 or 5-letter word guesses work? I mean, I see that some would be easily, particular 2 letter, or two word answers with unique character counts, but I'm guessing the rest is basically just guessing and if the guess is wrong the run is dead?
Or is something else going on that isn't just obvious looking at it?
