Sorry, forgot to respond to the thread, but yes, since it matters not if a level is unlocked on soft reset in no way affects the run as far as I can tell, no worries at all.

Alright so I tested out Yua (found here: https://kb.speeddemosarchive.com/Yua) and this appears to avoid the issue at hand; at least for the time being.

I appreciate the kind words. I try to approach everything as rationally as possible. I've been slowly converting from EMU to hardware, which has given me more time to work on modding; and I got plenty to do there. (I work taxes, so I go into blocks of doing neither much, like, now for instance).

Learning a lot here about hardware and everdrives and emulators; at least as much as a non-programming related person as I am. I can see emulators/consoles being subdivided in the future if more and more and runs make this an issue a bigger one, though it's a bit much for may brain to handle understanding how their may be some carts have different... things... or that the RAM being stuck in the console itself and not being able to be cleared out with a Gameshark, could actually make the console hardware more inconsistent than what an emulator with a sort of "default" position in RAM would achieve. I'm assuming that last sentence makes as much sense as it does in my head.

Anyways, I'm generally hesitant to split out emu/console runs, since the site itself does a decent job of this with it's ability to sort runs out (assuming they are correctly identified) through data filters that allowed to see what a board would look like (and what positions would be allocated to whom accordingly), and have always been surprised their hasn't been a global filter added on the site in all these years that would allow any user to basically hide all emulator runs by default. That, and it will one day be virtually impossible to run some of these games on original hardware and so I'm not sure in general how this will one day be treated.

thread: The Site

Thanks, Pac, for everything you've done for this site.

Alright, so I'm going 1P2C idea, particularly in the interest of maintaining some consistency among the series boards, lending viability to the 2 controller runs, and maintaining the status quo for the 1P1C board, and because the small little community we got here seems to lean that. Additionally, I could always add a 2P2C sub category if that ever becomes an issue.

There's a lot of little things addressed in some of y'alls post (I consider RAM watching on an emulator during a run to be cheating in general, and I'm under the impression this is widely held for the majority of games, but I don't believe that is in play here), but for the most part, I intend to allow emulator runs to continue, since NES has amazingly accurate emulators, and in general, abuse seems to remain low.

Also, nothing ever is set in concrete; the way the data is handled on these runs allow for future changes to be implemented with ease, should there ever be a large sudden flood of community coming to run this game, and they decide otherwise.

Anyways, I'm always open for thoughts and concerns on board moderation, and always appreciate new strats being test and implemented. It's a good strategy.

What Sirbrute says. Generally mods are allotted two weeks to verify runs. Given I got IRL stuff to attend to regularly, and I mod many games, it's not very often I work on verifying a run immediately once it's posted.

Hey. Looking for any advice.

Generally for run verification purposes I'll use untwitch.com to download runs on twitch to verify them. However, when I open the videos with Avidemux to verify them, I'm running into weird issues where frames are missing, or something about decoding the videos where time codes are acting nonsensically. If I open the video with VLC, there doesn't appear to be in any issues; it only appears to be occuring in Avidemux.

I'm a little dumb, so I don't know much about how video software works in general. But anyone else run into this issue? Is there another free software I can use when I run into this issue anyone can recommend?

I appreciate it.

It seems fine to me to do runs this way without subcategories (I'll still probably mark them in some way so each run has the strategies used showing, just not as a subcategory). Since it involves the use of two controllers though, I'll leave the runs pending for a moment to give the community their thoughts or objections. If there isn't any, I'll approve the runs.

thread: SkiFree

Went ahead and made turbo categories.

Buffering is when you use to pause button basically. When you pause the game, you can add more input to change the direction of the skier. So you can effectively pause at a flag, buffer an input, unpause, etc. My understanding is that you can get ridiculously good times if you are buffering and using turbo. Since it's not really a real-time game play, it's not as interesting to me as a category, but I'm not necessarily against that either. I just not sure there would be nearly as much interest in it as there might be for turbo.

thread: SkiFree

Apologies, the last runs I submitted, I just discovered the "F" button, and since no one was ever submitted a time with Turbo in it, I didn't consider the rules addressed this long ago. So, I'm dumb, lol.

But, I was curious if anyone would be interest in categories allowing for turbo (buffering still banned)?

thread: The Site

Yeah, I checked the user's page, and have no other runs submitted that I can tell. I haven't even checked the run since I knew I'd probably end up telling to resubmit anyways; so possible the run is legit, and the user is knew and vaguely trolling; or I'm just entirely being trolled.

thread: The Site

Yeah, someone has submitted a run with a link to pornhub. I personally don't care, as I'm an adult and what not. But, I dunno, seemed like I should check to make sure that was an acceptable thing, or if I should request the runner upload their time to an alternative.

Thanks.

Retimed and accepted.

I've split the boards between the two platforms since it was basically impossible to reconcile the differences of the two games on one board. I've moved runs already. Will be updating and cleaning the rules for both boards.

Think we might be finally good to go after that.

I don't get what you mean here.

Sorry, I work tax seasons, so I tend to get a bit busy around this time. I've went ahead and made some major updates to the categories.

For Single Exhibitions, I've included a "No Ring Out/No First Blood" category, which is basically the idea of beating a round via TKO/Submission/Pin. Most runs fall into this. There is a "No First Blood" category to accommodate previous runs that won from Ring Outs. Then there is a true Any% that allows for First Blood victories.

Since cage matches do not allow for Ring Outs/First Bloods, I went ahead and made a separate category for it.

Royal Rumbles do not allow for First Bloods, but I noticed I had all the runs as "No Ring Out". Since Ring Outs are the default method for victory in Royal Rumbles, I put that category first, while allowing for the harder No Ring Outs subcategory to exist. I've moved all the runs over accordingly. There is a "No" and a "No DQ" option here, but I wasn't able to discern the difference as of yet.

And of course, the Road to Wrestlemania does not allow you to alter the options in anyway. I'm unsure of how to handle this one, since the only run we do have has no Ring Outs except the Royal Rumble, I'm not sure A No Ring Out category is strictly possible, since the rules can't be set to disallow them, and an AI could easily knock out any other AI in Royal Rumble and ruin a run a couple hours in. For now, I've left subcategories off there, but open to suggestions on that, particularly when the issue becomes relevant.

I'm sure there is something I am missing, and I'm sure there is something with the GB version that I'll have to take into account at some point. But for now, at least, I've updated the boards to account for different run types appropriately.

Since we had some close times, and I needed to do more accurate timings, I went ahead and retimed a number of runs.

My timing method works as such: I download the video. Then, I look for the beginning frame. In this instance, the beginning frame is the last frame of video in which the game feed is at it's brightest. When the next frame of game play dims, I know the input has been on the preceding frame to start the game. The last frame is the first frame in which the final number appears in its box. From there, I can count up the number of frames between these two points to get an accurate measure for timing the runs. Having runners time it themselves leads to slight in inaccuracies (should as starting LiveSplit slightly early/late, and ending the split slightly early or late.)

Going forward, I will time runs via this method under two conditions; 1.) A time has crossed a certain threshold in which runs will be beating one another by milliseconds instead of seconds and 2.) to resolve ties in submitted runs. All other runs will have milliseconds removed from the board.

Feel free to reply here, or message me with any questions or concerns.

Changes will likely be made to sub categories to account for First Blood, but may take some time as there will be some reevaulation to all categories as a result.

thread: Snood

I've added the GII subcategory.

There is still some cleaning up and some research I'll need to do for the board. E.G., I'll need to manually go in and set subcats go the correct category. As of now, I'm assuming GII isn't a thing as far as the Puzzle mode goes, but does apply to all other categories. That will take some work to set up, but I'll get to it for sure at some point.

My biggest concern is about noting rules regarding the use of GII or not using GII on registered versions of the game. Ergo, if someone has a registered version of the game, how do I know that the board is randomly selected or not? I'll have to familiarize myself with as many versions of the game both registered and non-registered. This will naturally take some time. But the subcats are up for the time being.

thread: Snood

Appreciate it. Yeah, I'll get on making a subcat. Sorry for delays, I work taxes, so busy time. I'll have it up and ready to go tomorrow.
