This is something I'm not sure yet if it would work, but we need to do some testing.

In order to access one of the fragments, you need to activate the Map.

During one of my runs, I was able to skip the tutorial accidently, probably by spamming the M key. I thought at that time I would get a huge timesave.

The problem (Which you won't see in the clip below) is, when I collected the last key fragment, and when the pop-up for the Synthesized Key appeared, the game, instead of letting me press any key to close the pop-up, invited me to press M key, to do the Map tutorial. Ultimately I lost time, so I resetted.

Maybe there is a way to skip the Map tutorial the first time, and then a second time when you have the Synthesized Key pop-up spawning. Maybe spamming the M key correctly in both instance would make it doable, and make this skip viable.

This are some theories I'm posting here, in case some people want to investigate that case. I'm not sure I'll be able to test it soon, because I have other routing work to do on other games.

One last bonus thing, unrelated to this potential skip: I was able to skip a ledge grab once, during one of my attempts. If we can find a way to understand how it works, and make it somewhat consistent, it could be a way to save few seconds in the entire run (For such a short run, we have to take all possible time saves!).

Here is the clip of when the skip happened:

Hi! Just made the leaderboard for this game. So far, I've only made categories for the different versions (Remastered, Original and Mobile), but I know they might be other categories in the future. I'm doing this thread, to post the ideas, and maybe in the future, we will discuss if they are good ideas or not.

  • There could be a separation between Any% and "Saving all Frogs", since there is an achievement for saving all of them, at least on Steam. I'm not sure how many frogs you can save in each version (I know it's 11 in Remastered), so I can't do a category for it yet (I would need to know the amount of frogs to save on every versions). Also, I think the run would need some development before adding such a category, because there is still a possibility that saving all frogs is an optimized strat for Any%. So this category seems to be the most obvious potential idea, but I think we need time before adding it, or not.

  • There is a co-op mode on the Remastered version. I haven't tried it, but it could also be another category for the future, if some people show some interest for it.

Hello!

After deciding that I should stop procrastinate about it, I finally created a Discord for our speedrunning community!

It's a place to hang out with other members of the community, discuss about the run, post your achievements, and also your findings (This game is so glitchy, I'm sure they are a lot of stuff to find which could make the run even more exciting, or just could be fun glitches). I hope it will help making this community larger too!

Here is the permanent link for the server: https://discord.gg/MCqwC9ygvE

I've created a community Discord for speedrunning on this game, since they might be new runners joining soon! Don't hesitate to join, if you want to talk more about the game and exchanging strats! https://discord.gg/qWcRX3mTBN

Hello!

There is run pending since almost 2 weeks, which claims to be a new WR on Any% Bad Ending (on Steam version). In this run, you can see a brand new glitch being used, which takes place before timer starts. From what I understand, you go in the Time Attack mode, on level 8, you activate the first zone where you can change dimension, and you exit the level just after. Once you start the run on level 1, you spawn later than usual in the level, you are already on the last dimension, and on few levels after, you can still change dimension as much as you want (Like on the glitch used in Any% True Ending).

Since you are doing the glitch before the timer starts, I don't know what to do with that, since I can't find of another example of my knowledge of such glitch being legal in another speedrun community. That's why I'd like to know your opinion about this glitch, before I do anything with the run.

Here is the run if you want to take a look:

Hello! Since ntzm is not very active on SRC anymore, I'm looking for a new moderator, preferably one of the top 3 runners in Any% (Nihen, 1Kick234 and trenchmarian). I currently have a pending run, and I don't want to auto-verify runs on a board with other runners. Don't hesitate to respond if you are interested. The board is not having a lot of activities lately, so you won't be very busy anyway!

Thanks to triple jump discovered by MrDoublePlays, you can skip the mini-boss in Battlefield area! It seems a bit precise if you want to do it perfectly, while not taking a hit. It can be used on both Any% and 100%, but it will save more time in Any%, because you didn't have Fire Aspect to defeat the mini-boss.

The origin of this glitch was this clip, happening during a usual run attempt. I was able to jump out of the water somehow, even though the particles effect of the water appeared.

https://www.twitch.tv/mstruffles/clip/RenownedNeighborlyTubersJKanStyle-JQscmpRGwJf2pLRj?filter=clips&range=all&sort=time

So I wanted to see if it's possible to implement it in a real run, and I'm pretty sure it will be useful to save few seconds! If you spam the jump button, you can jump out of the water, and it can allow you to reach some ledges without waiting for log's cycles. Maybe you can to this glitch with a precise input timing, but I'm not confident to do that for now ^^'

More informations here:

I guess it will make me come back to Any% at some point :)

Hi!

I just wanted to get as most advice as possible on this speedgame, because it's currently hard for me to progress on this game. I'm gonna rewatch the WR very closely someday, but some experts help can also be good. Things I'd like to know, are the fastest method to skip dialogues (I'm using the space bar. It seems to be the best, but I want to be 100% sure), a consistent way to get the power up before starting the boss fight (And especially not taking a hit in the place where there are a lot of enemies, just before the last button), and maybe some advice for the boss fight.

Here is my current PB (Not verified when I'm writing this). You can take a look if you want, and tell me what I can improve.

While doing my first session on this game, I was able to do a glitch which makes the character much faster than he's supposed to be.

https://www.twitch.tv/mstruffles/clip/GleamingFineStarMikeHogu-w0gnnrTjfJXbsDJ_

I don't know how I managed to activate this glitch. The only things I know, are that it carried through every resets I did, and the only way to deactivate it, was to restart the game. I'll try to find a way to replicate this glitch whenever I want to.

Since it's not known how to replicate this glitch consistently, and since it changes the pace of the run drastically, I made a miscellaneous category named Speedglitch%. Consider it as a fun/meme category. Feel free to submit runs in this category. I'll probably submit a run in this category someday.

Hello o/ I wanted to submit this idea since few months. I really enjoy running this game, but in the current state of the leaderboard, if you want to be competitive, you need to use RNG manip. The issue is, running with RNG manip is not something I would find fun personally, and I know a runner who have the same vision of the run (I can understand that some runners find it fun though).

So my idea was to split runs with RNG manip and without RNG manip, probably in 2 different sub-categories. Here are my arguments:

  • These 2 ways of running the game don't have the same "philosophy". While you need to react to patterns you get when you run without manip, which makes RNG, knowledges of the game and decision-making more important, running with RNG manip makes the run entirely focused on memorizing the patterns, and pure speed.
  • It's easy for mods to spot a run with RNG manip. While without manip, the runner will start the run at a "random" time, with RNG manip, the runner will start at a very specific timing. On top of that, runs with RNG manip are way faster in terms of putting pipes on the board, since the pattern is already known, and pose of pipes seems unorthodox compared to runs without manip (I hope I explained it well ^^').

Of course, I'll let the community discuss about it, if it think it's a good idea or not. If most runners think the leaderboard must be unchanged, I'll understand.

During the first run of the stream, after getting the first 2 gems in Rio De Janeiro and San Francisco, and letting Porky Pig take the gem in Paris, I used the Royal Family's ring, before 3 minutes on the timer, to being teleported in a random city with Porky Pig. The RNG was insane. We got teleported to Kyoto, while the other gems were in Beijing and Sydney, so it was very close to our location. The plan was to steal Porky Pig's Paris gem by winning a duel, and go grabbing the last 2 gems. I don't know what time I could expect honestly, but if everything went right, even with bad cards RNG, I could have got an incredible run. It was until I faced Porky Pig. The mini-game was "The Pipe", which is heavily-RNG. If Porky Pig took the good pipe on first try, on a good pattern, it was over. And it's what happened... I would have loved to know how insane this run would have been if I could have finished it like I expected, but we'll never know xc

Hello!

I started running this game not long ago, and I really enjoy this speedrun. But I have a huge issue on the game very often. When I started running this game (in 1CPU category), I always chose Bugs Bunny for me, and Porky Pig for the CPU. After some runs, I realized I sometimes found myself in the same game as a previous one, which means: same placement at the beginning of the game for both players, same placement for the gems, and most importantly, exact same RNG for the cards (For instance, with one of those patterns, I got a Diamond 4 every time on first turn). To try to solve this issue, I started to choose another character for the CPU (Marc Antony at first), and it worked. And I was switching between Porky and Marc every runs. The issue is, I started to get the same issue at some point, even with this "strat". So I started to pick other characters for the CPU, and even other characters for me. But sometimes, it takes a good amount of tries before I get a new pattern, which is very boring. It's very annoying, because it's kinda bad for speedrunning I guess. You can remember every cards for you and the CPU, so you can plan your actions before a run. But also, the patterns can have bad RNG, so it's not always great. Anyway, I think it's a very annoying issue. I would to run this game more, but this issue is not helping me.

Did you have this problem before? What do you think about it? Is there a way to fix it?

And if it's actually some kind of RNG manipulation (I really have no idea of it's the case. I just know it exists for some games, depending on when you're pressing start at a certain point, or else, like some Pokemon speedruns), my interest for the game might decrease, because speedruns which are mostly based on RNG manipulation (Unlike The Little Mermaid on GB for instance, where you can manipulate RNG for certain bosses, but not all of them, and it's not the biggest part of the run anyway) are not my cup of tea.

Maybe you know the unicorn skip in level 2, which allows you to skip the first fight. While practicing this skip, sometimes, the unicorn gave me enough vertical velocity, to allow to "fly" above the level, and skip a big part of the level!

There is a lot of potential of this OOB, but for now, there is no consistent way to do it, and it seems to happen very rarely and randomly. So it can only happen if you are lucky, unless we find a way to do it consistently.

Here is a video to explain the current discoveries about this skip:

Basse-Normandie, FranceMsTruffles2 years ago

This happened during practice against the third boss.

Somehow, I was able to preserve the projectile I grabbed from the boss, and I continue hitting him with it indefinitively! I don't know how to reproduce it yet. I'll have to analyze it later, but if it can be reproduce during a run, it could save so much time!

Hello! I'm really hyped about continuing to run this game, but I found something which really bothers me >< I was comparing my actual PB (3:22), with the actual WR by quo (3:13). I realized, during the first cutscene, that there is some differences in the timings. The timer starts when you hit "start" on the main menu. During the cutscene, when the character emerges from the floor, there is a slight difference between both runs (on mine, it happens between 3 seconds and 3.5 seconds, and on quo's run, it's around 2.5). The biggest difference though, is when you take control of your character. On my run, it's around 36 seconds, and on quo's run, it's around 32.5 seconds. I haven't done more investigations for now (it's midnight in France when I write this, so i need to sleep ^^'). I won't be surprised if we found other differences. I don't know if it can be fixed, but it's annoying to compete with a disavantage :/

Hello!

Today I wanted to start my road to WR in Any% category. The thing is, when I started to practice the first level, while watching WR, I quickly realized that something was wrong. I think my game is slower than on WR. I don't know if it's because of the version I use (I play the Stream version), if it's an issue with my computer, etc... But for now, I won't grind this game until I know what is the problem, because I know I can't get the time I think I deserve for now.

To give you an example, here is a clip I've done earlier. It's easy to see that my game is slower, because I need to do 4 jumps to get on the barrel, instead of 3 (even without this "detail", it's easy to see there is something wrong about the speed of the character in my game).

Hello everyone. During my speedruns, I had several questions which spawned in my head, especially after watching 100% speedruns. Since I want to speedrun this category someday, I need some explanations.

  1. When I first saw the WR, i saw that every tasks on level 2 were done, so I thought you have to do the same thing on every level, but it's not the case, like on level 4 and 8. Why you do have to clear all tasks in this level? Is it faster than take the Kiwi statue, and then performing the OOB? This doesn't sound logical imo.
  2. This question may be stupid. Is is required for unlocking bonus levels to kill the final boss with the cannon and grab the stamp after the cutscene?
  3. Obviously, since I can play the Christmas level, I will submit in 100% New Release. But is it advisable, or necessary, to submit in 100% Old Release in this case?

That's it! I may have other questions to ask, but I'll probably keep them for another thread.

I added a new variable named “Speedglitch”. This glitch, that we can see in RSW run, make the game faster (it can be easily seen on some levels of the game). To this day, we don’t know what cause this glitch. Maybe with some testing, we would be able to reproduce it, but it’s not sure for now. The fact is, a run with the speedglitch is hardly beatable even with a very good run, and it can even be impossible. And, as we don't know where it comes from yet, after discussions with RSW and -STAR_fox-, we concluded that create a variable to distinguish run without speedglitch and run with it would be the best solution. Last thing: runs with speedglitch could be hidden by default. I need to discuss about this with RSW. As soon I have his answer, I will change that or not. If we find new things about this glitch, I could post updates here and change the leaderboard consequently.
