From some study, the in-game timer does not count load screens, and some computers are slow. I think it would be best to have the leaderboard revolve around the in-game timer for 1.2 and game jam categories. The CMG category will still need to be timed.
As an any% category, should I not be able to do everything possible to make the game faster? Cheat codes, etc. Stuff within the bounds of the rules?
@Merl_ @Sizzyl Thanks for the great answers! Let me rephrase number 6... Take your main game, and pretend that you are talking to someone that wants to start running the game. First, lets say there is a beginner goal in the game (like smb1 has sub 5, and super mario flash has a perfect lvl 1, these are usually the first goal people have when they start the game.) What would you rate it from 1-10, or take the WR in the game, could you rate it's difficulty from 1-100? If not, why, can you not put a number on these things? I would love to here your opinions : )
I am making a video, and the only place I could think of that had access to a bunch of different speedrunning communities, in one place, was this amazing site. Please try and answer as many questions as possible :thumbs-up:
- What type of game is the hardest, in your opinion. (Platformer, 3d, etc.) (You could also name a game, if all answers pertain to that game.)
- What is the hardest part of a speedrun? More than one answer if you like, but ranked in order. (Pixel Perfect Jumps, Multi Pixel, Memorization, etc.) 3.Hardest type of speedrun, try ranking if possible. (Any%, 100%, Glitchless, Blindfolded, etc.)
- Reasons you would not want to start a speedrun. (2 optimized, 2 hard, 2 long, 2 short, etc.) Try ranking please.
- For an optimized/satisfactory run, what is an average number of attempts? (1000, 3500, 5000, 10,000, etc. What ever number you think is right)
- Any of your ideas that would tell someone how hard your speedruns are.
The biggest rule on blindfolded speedrunning is (key word you used @Nxjfjhdhdhdhdnj ) external. No external help of any kind
The hard part of this type of strat is the having normalized counting @Grimmwolf6711 . The eaisist strats are music cues (you can count notes just like seconds, and echolocation.
What are you talking about?... the dragster record has not been beaten for 30 years just because only one person optimized it. The record shall never be beat!
;)
First I don't think this is a necro at three weeks and second this is relevant either way. While talking to the blindfolded brotherhood community on discord and other blindfolded runners. They all agreed that a metronome is outside help. (As shown by being banned in literally all blindfolded runs. Classified as outside help as stated earlier.) So my thought is that it needs to be clearly stated in the Blindfolded rules that a metronome is not allowed to be used. Also because of this I take back my previous statement in this thread about me going to use a metronome. The past two weeks I have not been using a metronome. Thank You and please dwell on this. : )
I spent about 5 hours (3 yesterday and 2 today) on researching white glitter and his smb1 blindfolded speedrun. I have been though about 50 English and Japanese forums trying to find any of his discoveries or path to the run. does anyone know where he posted anything? I just want to know anything he talked about for my research. Thank You.
over the flagpole. @Sagittarius
@Corban_Pittman don't worry about the need for memorization. there are only a few things to memorize in 1-1 to 4-2. I was able to get to 4-2 in about a week with the few memorizations. As darby pointed out, metronome is legal and i will be using one for blindfolded once i get down 8-1~8-4(about 10 min) with metronome should be about 8 min and eventually less. good luck and try not to stress yourself out.(i am only at 2873 attempts. many more to come!)
