Same kind of thing as the 7-2 FPG setup, except you have to hold down or release right for a longer amount of time. I'm not exactly sure long and not sure how to figure that out, but I'll tell you that if you were to do no manipulation throughout the level and try to jump for FPG, you will get E10. You want D70.

In this situation I like to do a full jump just as I'm passing the last blocc above my head to land in the right place You will get D90 without any manipulation, just holding right and B throughout the whole level, and you have to release right (or press down+right) for 2 frames on the ground to get D70

wut in d world how is dis possible? I thought clicking start as early as possible on the title screen was disadvantageous

This subtle difference completely screwed me up and I had to fix my muscle memory to adjust to this difference The difference is compared to when I was playing on Snes9x before (left) and when I was playing on Bizhawk on my normal most common to play on computer (right) The gameplay on the left is the one that I'm used to, I ain't understand this thing

This ain't right

So, it took me months to finally figure out how in the world Kosmic was being "framerules" faster than me when we seemed to execute at the same level. The key was, it wasn't actually framerules, it was frames. I don't know if it's framerate, or lag, but Kosmic seems to consistently pull ahead as the run goes on

(make sure to ignore my voice for optimal focus) This is the comparison between some random run that I did in which I executed essentially the same speed as Kosmic yet fell behind by frames.

(yet again ignore my voice in this one for optimal focus) (sorry, I liked it when Kosmic said "blazit clip below the bricks") Anyway, in this run I do 1-2g which saves 5 framerules over WR, but I mess up in 8-1 costing me 3 framerules, and everything else I play just as fast as WR Yet, as I should be 2 framerules ahead as we enter 8-3, we're essentially tied instead.

I also compared between mine and RoyLGamer's run as well, and the weird part is that no one is at any framerate or lag disadvantage, essentially that we are playing at equal framerates. Our mistakes add up in the end, no one executes faster than the other, and we finish at basically the same time.

That is quite weird, because if you're playing on console then wouldn't all consoles kinda function the same? Meaning that Kosmic and RoyLGamer should both be going at the same framerate. I'm not suspicious of Kosmic's run, or Kosmic, but I just want to know wut the hecc is going on.

Skip to 1:56 I am using the Snes9x v1.56 emulator, and then my only guess is that I somehow clicked something potentially and then this happened If this is caused by me pressing a button, how can I disable this so it doesn't happen yet again in a more OP run?

Another note: It stays like this until I close and reopen the emulator, and I seem to be unable to reproduce this by pressing the same buttons I potentially pressed.

It hella distracc, it make it harder, can I remove it?

Lul_ecks_dee6 years ago

This should be 3 frames faster than soccfolder, just for the lulzies

Lul_ecks_dee6 years ago

Pretty sure 342 is possible, if you do the mushroom grab faster

Moderators look at this, I'm not sure if this counts.

What's lit my lit b's? We (probably) know the frame perfect B press method to successfully get FPG https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/thread/vboca We also probably know the good ol (new actually) HappyLee setup with the good ol (new axe shully) hold jump at start and release right for 2 frames Both of these methods have something in common, they both require the sockfolder setup at the end of the level, and hey, that's cool, that's lit b

We all (actually most likely NONE of us kkkkkkkk) probably know about the "Alternate 4-1 FPG setup" post by KingOf_JonnyBoy https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/thread/lia34

Good ol not hold B at the beginning of level for 3 frames, then just jump at the top of the stairs in 4-1, and you get ez D70 (no mavpole witchcraft, no pressing left, no releasing right, just jumping)

Well, I decided to poke around in 8-3, since hey, there's a method where you indeed don't hold B at the beginning, so what if you could do the same thing?

If you press B exactly 5 frames later than the normal time you would press it for the standard method, you would get this, by jumping at the top of the stairs (or what I like to call, TOSetup [top of stairs setup]) No mavpole, no left presses, and you're already set up from the beginning of the level BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE

There are backups in case you press the B button late or early, so essentially, this isn't a frame perfect B press method, this is a 3 frame B press method..? hol up wat

If you press B 1 frame late, you won't be able to do TOSetup, but you can do Sockfolder setup (but with D50 inputs)

If you press B 1 frame early, it's a little more difficult to recover, but it's doable. You have to release right midair for exactly 5 frames to get D40 with sockfolder setup (freaking thingy is like finna no if you get D60 god dang it b, but hey, that's on TAS, maybe it's different RTA) D40 inputs is basically the same as D50, you have to do it perfectly (loud noise at end beware)

One last thing: I made notes if you use the sockfolder rom what the letters and numbers will say in the top left corner thingy when you run off the 2nd bill launcher

2 frames early = 630 1 frame early = 5F0 0 frames early = 6F0 1 frame late = 690 2 frames late = 530

BUT HEY, THAT'S JUST- Kappa

I think? Based on the pellsson rom, after the firework activates, I always have 1 frame to spare if I do the level perfectly, no slowdown and perfect skybum.

Edit: Actually hol up maybe you have to be literally perfecc, someone can confirm this I'm sure

Lul_ecks_dee6 years ago

This literally came out of nowhere, and I didn't even know it was possible to get 10 pixels from pipe bumps because someone told me that The chances that this would just happen first try, 10 pixels 2X in a row off pipes, and go down the 1st pixel, someone please calculate

So, I was just thinking, since I could find a setup for the one with 3 hard tricks, why not look into one with 2 hard tricks? (since I'm doing runs with 2 hard tricks this would actually be quite useful for me) If your name is gunlap28, GTAce99, AldynSpeedruns, or Tecate (aka everyone going for a 456), and you are sick of waiting 7.82 seconds on the title screen, this post is for you. You just have to start with -3.27 as well, and 2 hard tricks (sorry Tecate, I don't know what to call it)

1-1 FPG and 4-1 FPG 1-1 FPG and 420 blazit 4-1 FPG and 420 blazit etc. You need to have 2 of those hard time saves and be on 456 pace entering 8-2, and the next thing you need to do, is bop the first lakitu, and that's it. Don't bop anything else, just the 1 lakitu. Example video: It is a very consistent BBG setup

Edit: In case you are skeptical, here is an RTA run of it happening (note I die to low podoboo, it's not a lodoboo, I believe it is a frame perfect jump to get past it or something, because I have been able to get past it in practice.) There are a few low podoboos in a row if you go too slow like I did (probably slower than 8-0, like 8-K, 8-J, 8-I)

Lul_ecks_dee6 years ago

Is your name Kosmic, Roy, tavenwebb2002, somewes, darbian, or StuckInAPlate (aka everyone that is going for a mid 456 or better)? Are you sick of waiting 8 seconds on the title screen?

If you answered yes to the 2 above questions, this post is for you.

Alright, so I was just doing some experimenting around the framerule -3.27, and framerules that are fast, and I managed to find a setup for BBG that has gotten me optimal shot every single time. You have to start on -3.27, and then do the following hard tricks 1-1 FPG 4-1 FPG 420 blazit Good judges Or whatever you want to get to 8-2 on mid 456 pace.

The next step from there, is to bop the first lakitu, and then the first koopa past the 2nd bullet bill glitch launcher, and then proceed normally throughout the rest of the stage

Here I have made a video that shows what you heff to do (as well as the bro patterns)

And then I also made a cool little TAS that shows you what the run should look like (in case what I said didn't make sense)

If you are somewes, use -3.62

I found that releasing right for even 3 frames is extremely difficult for me, so I just had some random thoughts and decided to test this out I figured that, if releasing right for such a little amount of time is so difficult, why not release it for a longer amount of time? These frames that you release right for will yield the same results 1 frame = 10 frames 2 frames = 11 frames 3 frames = 12 frames

When you do the 1 frame setup for walljump, I found that for the walljump part you can consistently 100% of the time get 8-J very easily (Note this only works for this setup) Basically you just do a full jump to bonk the roof, and then you hold down+right midair, and you'll end with 8-J every single time Before I did this setup I would most commonly get 8-I, sometimes 8-H or even 8-G, and rarely 8-J.

I did 1-3 FPG from a save state near the end To do it you just run on the platform for a few frames before you jump off, then you do sockfolder inputs

I don't think this is on the spreadsheets, but I am wondering, what if someone used the -3.27 pattern instead of the normal -7.12? Would this be allowed? (because I want to use this pattern, I seem to get optimal BBG like every single time)
