I did take into consideration on both sides of the argument in that post.

Maybe I am willing to do that hard work. Saying I'm completely 100% alone is also a little unfair, as I might not be completely wrong. Yes I'm aware it was decided by the community.

I'm not saying it's definite that it has to happen. Saying my suggestion is "preposterous" is a bit on the mean side.

Honestly, I don't care if it happens or not. I'm just throwing my ideas out, which doesn't hurt at all, and that was kindof the original point of the post, right?

And the way you typed out everything made it sound like it was just to shoot me down.

I would like to ask kindly that you rephrase some things next time, as seeming like you're trying to tear me down is a way to get people to not want to run this game anymore, and be less of a part of the community, especially coming from a moderator.

I don't mind that you replied, it's just the way it was phrased could have been better.

Sincerely, LOE

Thank you Gix for recognizing that haha <3

The fact that the rules were changed should be controversy enough. So rather than combining everything, as a lot of us would prefer to run on new files, compared to running on completed files, and vise versa, I think the solution is to have those categories specified within the IW's section of the leaderboard.

Something like this: "Any% New" --- "100% New" --- "Any% Completed" --- "100% completed"

If that makes sense?

Or otherwise we could just move back to the old rules? :P

It's kinda weird that this game shares the exact same mods as the original NSMBW.

I'm thinking I would gladly do it if I was made a mod for this specific game. Eventually I will run this game as well, when I get my financial situation figured out.

I'm agreeing with you that it's a good idea, and it's weird that W1 is the only category for IW's.

How long ago did you post this? I'm getting the feeling it was probably like yesterday or something like that, but my thing says 5 months ago. I don't ever recall seeing this post before. Especially since I got a notification about there being a new post in this games forum page.

Texas, USALightOfEon9 years ago

I'm not a mod myself.

However, I'm down for it.

I haven't been part of the discord or any community events lately so idk if me saying that has any effect on the decision.

The only thing I ask is, any additions or changes tothis games part of the site, should be asked about to mods and the rest of the community before having it actually happen.

If you have any questions for me, you can reach me best via Skype; LightOfEon is my name. I currently have planned on taking a hold of, or grabbing a tie of every IL World Record. So far of which I have 1-1 and 1-2 any% and 100%

I am also attempting to obsolete the current 100% World Record some time later in the future.

Texas, USALightOfEon9 years ago

It's a good idea I think.

But it sounds like that mainly any% 8-4 and any% D-4 need to be added to snes misc categories to fix this problem.

Texas, USALightOfEon9 years ago

if you're willing to grind 15 hours into the same game go for it.

I doubt it will be a category.

Main reason for people not answering to most of these posts is that the community for this game isn't big enough.

However, the 100% and 200% categories that need all the puzzle pieces would be cool.

100%+ seems like something that could be a category. 200%+ seems kinda iffy and would be right on that line of too much grind.

It's probably appropriate to delete this whole forum thread now, since the author has already deleted his main question from it.

http://mkwrs.com is a very good place to look at all the current world records, as well as previous records for all the main Mario kart games.

I know there are other websites as well that do something similar for people who Don't have a top 10 place, so it seems pretty redundant to add ILs to any MK leaderboard.

Getting moderator for a specific game when asking for it will actually require reaching a Website Mod on the main page forums. I'll provide a link:

Are you talking about during the Bowser fight?

It's not a very easy trick to get the first couple times you attempt it. I've tried it myself, and it's pretty hard. (Granted I've only beat the game a couple times total.)

But it seems that jumping into bowsers face (not touching him) is what causes the second fireball animation to be completely skipped (for some unknown reason). It has something to do with being in the right place at the right time. And can only be done with the second fireball that he shoots (not the first).

When Ewaller ran NSMB U at SGDQ, he was able to explain it slightly better I think (it effects both games).

Hope this helps.

I'm sorry MarioManTAW,

I've looked into the problem myself. When you have posted runs in the past, you provided a screenshot instead of video footage, and they were later moved over to the rejected list, and this was done before I even became a moderator.

It's a rule that you need to provide specific video footage to be able to get accepted into the IL leaderboard. I think it should be made clear though, so I will make sure this happens.

It's fine to use Nabbit only...

It's considered Co-Op because it takes two controllers to do any run with Boost Mode.

If boost mode wasn't used, then the run would still be considered solo.

Could make it a totally different category (as a misc) like it is in NSMB U "Any% Boost Mode" where the same rules apply. Or "100% Boost Mode" is perfectly acceptable as well.

Texas, USALightOfEon9 years ago

So then, can we remove the Nabbit only categories?

A majority seem to not see a point in them. We also keep finding more and more reasons to remove it.

If boost mode is used, technically it's two controllers, which should be considered co-op. Co-op would make a great category. It would remove the need for sub categories.

But I still think the Nabbit only ones should just be removed as a whole. Keep the IL ones though.

With your consent?

Texas, USALightOfEon9 years ago

MChan, I never make adjustments to categories without asking first.

Thanks for backing me up ewaller <3

Texas, USALightOfEon9 years ago

I'm in agreement with Ewaller on both of his posts.

NSE makes no sense, and I think should be deleted. The point of All Castles it for that in between. But it also acts as the "Warpless" category to match up with NSMB Wii.

I'm all for deleting the categories that need exceptions, as long as the others are as well.

Now I don't run this game extremely well, so I'm not a pro, but I can tell you things that I do know.

So lets assume you have the cape on the whole run starting in Donut Plains 1.

The swimming: If you have a cape, mario can spin with it, and it works with two buttons (X and Y) so if you're holding the baby yoshi and in SW2, you can claw the X button to spin and still be able to hold him, which will help you get through enemies. (Clawing = using another "not busy" finger, in this case, it should be your index finger.)

Also, holding baby yoshi automatically get you to start swimming full speed, so there's no need to hold the forward button. This is useful for when you need to start moving downwards to get to the key, so you could just spam the down button without having to worry about losing your forward speed. And finally, you could spam the swim button (A or B) to gain a little bit of height when it's necessary.

Smashola? Do you mean the zip trick going through the spinning breakable blocks?: While you're spinning jumping to break the blocks to get to the key, your cape will make the blocks directly next to you start spinning. The game has a limit on how many can spin at one time (I think it's 3). Once you break your 3rd or 4th block, starting holding either left or right, and you will zip through a lot of the blocks. Be careful as there is the occasion where if you zip too far, you could actually die because the game would think you just fell off screen.

I don't quite know anything about the bowser fight with the cloud unfortunately. But I think it goes that you have to jump into it and stay directly above bowser. This allows the game to act like you have jumped on the mecha-koopa that he throws out, which hits bowser immediately. However, this portion is just something I've seen on video. I'm not sure of the timing or anything, and you could look at the world record run of this to find out things like timing and positions.

Does any of this help? :)

Texas, USALightOfEon9 years ago

I will take a look into that. I think it only really happens on the home page that shows the feed of the games you follow, as when I have actually clicked on this specific game, I didn't see it like that.

However, I think I will keep the "Nabbit Only" categories. You never know, somebody might have some kind of weird fascination with the purple fellow.

Also, I didn't realize I had been made a moderator for this game haha, it was unannounced. I'll do my best to keep up with this game :)

Texas, USALightOfEon9 years ago

They're stating that the only secret exit allowed is in the appropriate level within the Spooky Forest of the Soda Jungle.

Texas, USALightOfEon9 years ago

Allow me to elaborate more for you :)

The mid point is usually slower if you don't have any power up, since it buffers due to the animation of making you bigger. It won't make the run invalid. And personally, I've never experienced a buffer with anything other than having no power up at all.

Touching the flag pole at the bottom of the flag is faster than going for the top. Yes, the top gives you a life. However, if you grab the top, it does the animation of sliding down the pole by about half a second longer (it's like this in every "New" mario game.) and if you're a speedrunner, you won't need the extra life at the top of the flag pole anyways.

The mid castles are considered towers in this game. The all castles run only specifies that you need to complete the final castle in every world, not the towers. The reason for this is because each official castle has a different Koopa Kid as a boss, and in 7 out of the 8 towers, it's always Boom Boom. So think of it as you only need to beat the Koopa Kids and Bowser. Also, just for a pointer, you don't need to do the air ship right before Soda Jungle (as it's not a castle, and the boss [Bowser JR.] appears twice in the game.) So I recommend taking that to your advantage as well.

I'm not against no video at all. I understand the problem with not being able to record videos on the DS as well. Hell, it's even hard for me to record my Wii.

If you can post some splits with either a screen shot, or writing them down in your comments when you submit the run, it might help determine the legitimacy of the run.

Also, recording some kind of sound is not necessarily perfect.

Another option is if you can get somebody in a skype call with you while you run the game, and have them listen to you play the game, and then you write "Witnessed by [Person]" then it will be a little more believable, because somebody can back you up. It doesn't necessarily mean recording a video or audio. And send them a screen shot of your splits / time, so when and if they're asked, it seems more legit.
