I'd also highly recommend learning Beginner before moving to Critical or Level 1. Starting with Beginner can help give you a much deeper understanding of the intricacies of fights before moving to a category where not knowing those intricacies will get you killed. At this point, you may also want to open a thread on the KH2FMHD forum, because I'm sure a lot of people who could give you more specific help follow that game and will get alerts. Unfortunately, a lot of people miss series-wide forum posts because there's no way to get email alerts from them.

There are a few tutorial videos for 1.5, but I'm not certain for 2.5. I'd check the guides section, as the others mentioned, but I'd also check the guides section of KH2 Final Mix, since that's the more popular version of the game and some of the resources may live there.

There's also a lot of value to be stated in making your own notes while watching the record video. That way, they're tailored to you and writing (typing) things down helps you remember them a bit better. Most people use Pastebin or Google Docs for this, although you could also try using a text document and a program called SplitNotes if you want to only show some of your notes at a time (on a per-segment basis).

I AM familiar with the game (I run its sequel), which is why I chimed in. Plenty of people take the game seriously, including the most popular R&C runner Xem92. What they were most likely referring to about the leaderboards being a "joke that got out of hand" was when it had a different background and whatnot, which has already been resolved.

And, for the record, we never dismiss any request without discussion. I'm glad gamebrain brought the release date thing to our attention, as it gave me a chance to update them all today.

Virginia, USAJHobz7 years ago

I think you misunderstood me Timmi.

Gamebrain was talking about how the leaderboard categories were straight up incorrect, which they were for a short period because we were trying to fix them but had to revert. I was stating that our reverts were good enough for the interim, before we could fix them up properly.

Please read the thread more carefully next time, as I wasn't turning anything down, simply explaining what happened: that we tried to bring them up-to-date, ran into problems (which is what Gamebrain saw), and had to revert. We are still planning to bring them up-to-date, it's just unfortunate that SRcom had a major update while we were updating all the game pages, which is what caused the delay. I'm also trying to help other mods update these last few game pages on their own, that way I'm not the only one who knows how in case problems arise in the future. This takes time.

Thanks! Should get far fewer confused people during submissions now! :)

The video is on the run page you linked. That "video with random music" IS the run, they were just listening to music. It's not on their Twitch profile because the run was done on Hitbox.

Wesen's comment about R&C: Going Commando seems invalid, since the run in question does have a video of a legitimate run, however, I would also greatly be in favor of a "Report" option, rather than having to contact the mods manually and hope they respond. Ideally the report function could contact the game/series mods and then escalate it up to site admins if no action is taken after x days.

Hi there,

I'm a moderator over at the Kingdom Hearts series and for a while now we've had a problem with one of our games. BBSFMHD ( http://www.speedrun.com/khbbsfmhd ) was erroneously set up with a "time without loads" option and has caused headaches ever since. When trying to uncheck the "Separate load times" option in the Edit Game settings, all times disappear completely, even though not a single (current) run has a time without loads value in it. If there is any way a site admin could intervene and fix the boards manually (that is, keep all of the current times with loads as the run time and simply remove the option to submit times without loads), we would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks, Hobz

The release date thing is because speedrun.com only used to allow you to enter the year, not the full date release. They must have just added the full date capability recently (I didn't even know it existed until this forum post since there's no good way to stay on top of speedrun.com updates).

The BBS page was fixed to use subcategories at one point, so there must have been an issue that required a revert. However, it looks fine enough for the time-being to me when I check it now, unlike in your screenshot: https://i.gyazo.com/bdddbbba98a0fef6a40616163b4550ee.png

In general, try to use game-specific (rather than series) forums whenever possible for issues related to individual games, as there is currently no way for us to get email notifications about series forum posts, so response times may be longer. Thanks for bringing the issues to our attention.

Quick update: The original pastebin says 0.9.10 and 0.9.11, so I'm not sure why the rules ever said only 0.9.11. Regardless, it's been fixed.

Virginia, USAJHobz8 years ago

Super late reply to this, but I don't see why not. If 0.9.11 was put in the rules it must have been because that's what I was told at the time. I'll update it to allow both.

Just curious, how is this game different from the base Portal game? Couldn't see anything glaringly obvious from watching a few of the runs. Also, is there a reason this isn't listed in the Portal Mods game series?

Thanks!

I would say that those codes could be useful in preparing a NG+ file though. Obviously you would not be able to use any of them during runs, but if you don't have time to do a full 100% run, they could help you make a NG+ file more quickly on PS3.

Virginia, USAJHobz8 years ago

The game doesn't have any definition of a so-called "true 100%" that includes puzzle pieces, figurines, etc., so that's why it hasn't been on the boards so far. However, I know some of the runners have been considering routing/doing All Puzzle Pieces runs for a while, so I'm sure that would pop up if someone decided to take it seriously.

Hi there, and welcome!

Getting started is easy! I can say personally one thing that helps is to simply play the levels A LOT. Playing the Time Attack versions can help with this, but the main thing is memorizing the layouts of the levels via playing them a bunch.

To help you with the speedrun stuff, MooMooAkai has created an awesome series of tutorials that should teach you (almost) everything you'll need to know! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfopGGnbe_yOppsSDEC_MNAXOLilPwrZK A few of the strats have changed since he made them, but that is a fantastic place to get started. Additionally, there's a public discord that is a great place to ask questions and stuff. Check it out! https://discord.gg/PEj3E

Also, most runners are happy to help if you reach out to them individually.

Have fun!

I don't think we know exactly how precise infinite jumps are, which would be pretty cool to know (like how many frames of input you have to still gain height, etc.)
