@Bronkel is correct. What I typically try to do is completely use up one of the weapons (let's say the boomerangs first) and it will automatically set the weapon back to the single banana. After that, I would cycle to the pea shooter and completely use it up until it sets the weapon back to the single banana. After this, set it to the double banana and you should be good to go.
Do NOT cycle through all the weapons because once you get to the invincibility totem, it messes up this trick. I'm not entirely sure why it messes it up, but it does.
Edit:
Something I did not share in this video (we've learned a lot about this game since this video was made) is that you can avoid collecting the boomerangs at the end of the climb, on this level. I would recommend watching Bronkel's WR to see what I mean: Skip to 4:24 (right after the monkey and before the elephant checkpoint)
We're basically just trying to land on the platform with the boomerang pickup, as far to the right as possible, so we can avoid collecting it. If you happen to collect the boomerang, you can still get rid of them in time for the King Louie fight.
I hope this helps!
Great watch and very enticing to try. I think I will also give this a go and see what I can come up with. If I find anything, I will report back with some details.
Edit:
So after messing around with it for a little bit, I've come to the same conclusion as @Svipur.
I've tried a few different things and the one that seems to have the best results is to wait on the carpet until it's as far right as it will go, wait for it to reverse direction, and attempt to make a short jump from the carpet to the wall.
I have not been able to actually get it to work with this method, but this seems the most-likely to work.
The things I've noticed on why this method may not work are:
- If you jump too high, Aladdin will land on the platform.
- If you jump too low, Aladdin will land back on the carpet.
- The carpet moves in a diagonal direction when moving away from the wall, this brings Aladdin above the platform with any jump height.
Another method I've attempted is something a bit unusual, but I gave it a shot, anyway.
I placed Aladdin on the platform before the carpet goes up against the wall, attempted to use the sword as a way to get Aladdin back on the carpet. I was sort of hoping for some sort of glitch to push Aladdin through the floor with this method, since it changes Aladdin's X/Y-Values.
Hey everyone, sorry for making a second new post but this one will be used for any small optimizations that I (or you, if you would like to contribute) find.
This one that I found is in Collapsing Ruin. I noticed a path optimization and timed it for comparison:
This one is a bit difficult to pull off, but it can save some time in Jungle at Night (I slow this video down to x0.1 speed so you can hopefully see what is happening):
Hey everyone, I just wanted to share something that I figured out. If you enter the King Louie fight with no boomerangs and no pea shooter shots left, King Louie will take an insane amount of damage from the Double Bananas.
- No Pea Shooter shots: 17 Hits
- No Pea Shooter Shots & Boomerangs: 11 Hits
I've started to change to the boomerangs at the start of Collapsing Ruins and throwing a boomerang on every jump that I make until I run out. Then I switch to the pea shooter and continue as normal.
Here's a video to show the differences and how I perform the Collapsing Ruins level:
Ok, so if anyone would like to join, the races will take place on October 8th starting at 7:00 P.M. EST and October 9th starting at 5:00 A.M. EST.
If you can't make it, no worries. We'll definitely try to set up some more races in the future.
Ok, we could try for October 6th - 8th since that would work better. Anytime after 1:00 EDT would work for me.
Hey everyone, I was curious if any of you would be down to do some races sometime soon. We can try to find a day / time that works well for everyone.
If you're interested, just leave a comment of when would work best for you.
I'm thinking sometime during the weekend of September 22nd to the 24th might be a good time to try, that way we have time to work it in to our schedules.
Here is one spot I have been messing around with that is somewhat similar to that Cave of Wonders attempt. I haven't been able to get it to work but it is so close. I'm not sure if it would be enough to send us through the poles or if the poles would just stop you from bumping up.
Thanks to @Estacaco for sharing this info:
He was taking a look at the map layouts and found a spot that looks promising.
One other spot I noticed is close to the beginning of Dungeon and if it's possible to clip through the floor and the wall, this could cut off some time.
Here's the link to the full maps:
That's really interesting @Svipur thank you for sharing your findings!
Maybe we should also look into trying to use the sword to respawn further away from the checkpoint. If there is one close to a wall, we may be able to set the respawn up against that wall and spawn on the opposite side of that wall.
I was thinking it might be possible on the last stage, too. Mainly because you start at the top of the level and work your way down, back up, then down, again. I'm just not sure if there is a respawn point that is in a good spot to try this.
Hey everyone, I just wanted to share this clip with you all that happened during a stream by my friend FoxzyRae89.
This clip was found on the Disney Classic Games version of Aladdin, so I'm not entirely sure if it will work on the Genesis version. I think it is something that I will look into to see if it can help, anywhere.
I'm not sure if the clip only works through floors or if it will work through walls or any other areas, as well. I'll be doing some testing later and will post the results here.
I'll start off by saying I am currently not a runner, but I have practiced some of the run. This may make my comment a little less valuable to this community; but please see this as a perspective of a potential runner's point of view:
I'd say YES since this would give an opportunity to those who are thinking of running the game a "soft" starting point. This could help get them at least familiar with some of the game, the techniques, etc... without needing to dedicate a lot of time to learning the full run. In turn, I imagine most would want to try their hand at the rest of the game and could possibly become serious competitors on the board.
If this does happen to become a reality, I would also say to get the information out there that this category exists and include some good resources along with those posts to help motivate or simply give a solid starting path to new runners.
Alright, we've had this poll up for a little less than a week now and it seems that everyone that wanted to vote, has voted. A quick thank you to everyone that participated and let their voices and opinions be heard here on the SRC TLK forums and on the Discord channel.
Our first case is pretty straight forward, the response graph is showing that we're sitting at 90% agreed and 10% opposed to the swap of starting from a soft / hard reset to starting from a save state that is made at the title screen.
Effective Immediately: All runs* will no longer be required to start from a full reset. You may use a save state, if you choose to do so.
Our second case is not as simple, we don't have a clear consensus at all. It is close to being 1/3 of the total votes for each option, so we may need to do a run-off vote or simply wait a little longer until we see runners become a little more optimized with the game. Personally, I believe the top times are at least closing in on becoming very optimized, but you never know.
Seeing as how 72.8% of the votes are for adding milliseconds to the leader board times, we will more than likely have to do a run-off vote for our final answer on this poll.
Thank you all very much for your patience. I know it can be annoying to wait on a poll or change to take place, so we appreciate it.
Alright, good discussions took place here and good ideas tossed around that it looks like we can mostly, if not all, agree upon for the No Exploits category. I like a lot of the ideas I see getting proposed for the general rules to revamp the category.
The rules definitely need some trimming and I believe the "intended route" idea just can not exist as the sole idea behind this category's rules, as it is too controversial what was or was not intended.
I would like to apologize for this categories poor rule set. I took part in creating the rules for it and I did not look beyond what I saw when thinking about how it would work or if it would make complete sense on why each rule was a part of the category. I've learned a lesson during this and will promise to make an effort to not allow it to happen again to the best of my ability.
As pointed out by @8BitsOfJoy, the rules for this category can start to become a slippery slope if we try to restrict too much so the rules that make sense for this category will remain or be implemented and what's left will be pruned.
We have another decision to make so it's time for another poll. (I know we've had so many lately but we're almost done, according to the current state of the forums.): https://forms.gle/DvzgkDrajBZ718vH6
We can take it further in this forum post once we get a result on what the category(s) will be, so we can all make sure we're on the same page. Let's not rush into changes with this but let's make sure we're moving forward in the right direction. So far, I have to say, you're all doing fantastic with how attractive the ideas are to revamp / reconstruct the rules for this category.

To be consistent, fair, and careful with banned runners' previous submissions, we will be removing all runs from the board. We do not condone whatever actions these speed runners chose to take, and the leader boards will reflect that we will not tolerate toxic, hateful, or any negative behavior in our community.
The links to these runners' removed submissions will be provided in this list to allow anyone that is looking for these runs to still be able to find them without much trouble.
This post will always be updated when a runner is indefinitely banned by the speedrun.com full moderators. It will also remain at the top of our forums.

I agree completely. Our community may be small but we've got some fantastic people that make it worth the failures. If it weren't for many members of this community, I would have probably stopped a long time ago but since we cheer each other on and are genuine about it, I've never wanted to leave.
As @Stormy said, if anyone feels like they would like to attempt the run but felt outcasted or shunned, please give it another try. We can't promise it will be easy but we'll make it a fun journey, at the least.
