you can get a used ntsc ps2 and an ntsc game copy "relatively" cheap on the internet if you really want to. just be prepared to pay twice as much due to the shipping fees... emulating the NTSC version is free. you should probably stick to that option if you're just starting out. slower loading times won't instantly kill your run. if you really want to go for a top time you can still switch to console when you feel like spending money.

I think it would count as an own category. The big difference is probably that Counter Crest is not working every time. However good luck to get that one added, nobody ran the PAL version yet. This should not stop you from running it, but don't be disappointed if it does not get added as a category. I can imagine that it won't. As a seperate game it wouldn't make sense probably. Even though there are quite a few differences, it's still the same game.

cough because it's fast.

Toto's 87 hour run is the current definition of 100% (at least for me) as it is the only run which ever succeeded. Still, I like 'Beat Kurt' more. The leaderboards will only consist of any%, don't even bother

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, GermanyHdot126 years ago
  1. No clue really. I don't know how accurate it is to run it on a psp. The moderators can say for sure if it is allowed or not but I doubt it because I bet there is something different when using psp.

  2. This is up to your definition since the game has no percentage counter. TOTOzigemm is yet the only human on earth to ever finish a '100%' run. The ruleset he finished on was to get all special items, get all possible digivolutions (on one rookie digimon. not on every rookie like on his failed attempts before) beat Kurt and Keith in the post game.. I thinkt this is the important stuff. So yeah he finished that in 85:59:09. Keep in mind he did that in RTA, so he never paused the timer. Instead he left it running when he went to sleep. Anyway this is such a long category and probably nobody else will attempt this. It will probably just stay a meme with TOTO as the meme king.

How about games you want to run but nobody ran them yet? do you stop running the game because there is no community? no you run the game, because you want to. so just run your game. if you are lucky you might even build an own community without the d-bags in it who already built one. option two would be to give them a chance. one of my friends (IRL though), I hated him a lot when we first met. he turned out to become a really close friend of mine. situations can change. when you really can't get along with them you can still continue to run the game alone.

I have to say I have no idea about the ruleset of no signatures, since I did not make this category and never played it. So I really don't want to decide that. I'd like to pass this to ThStardust, since he is more the moderator to go for this game but he was last online 2 months ago...

Responding to the emulator issue now.

Kyutora's 4th option would be the best option imo. Allowing ePSXe with the rule that it may not use the glitch at all since it's too inaccurate but allowing Bizhawk aswell pretty much because it is accurate. So people can rather choose on not doing the glitch or doing the glitch but sacrificing loading times. I guess it's a good compromise for emulator players without getting any inaccuracies on the leaderboard. If anyone really wants to get a top time he will switch to console at some point anyway.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, GermanyHdot127 years ago

For me, the 1st option should be the solution, which means that the glitch is only allowed in any% and the other category with all the times we have so far will stay as it is to be named No Major Glitches. Mainly to keep the old category alive because this is what we remember when Digimon World speedruns come to our mind. Imo it would be somewhat dumb to have two seperate categories of this glitch while still both runs can use the glitch. (even though that some features of it get banned in one category). But if we create 2 seperate categories for this (and that's what we will do as it seems) then one should allow the glitch in it's full glory and the other one should not allow it in any way. (What would that even be? Allowing wrong warps etc. but not allowing glitched recruitments?)

This is pretty much the point why we should go with option no. 1. I could take other arguments into consideration now and all the pro's listed by Kyutora but IMHO it's not worth it since the thing mentioned above already does the decision for me. the current leaderboard should get renamed to No Major Glitches and not allow the glitch in any way. Pretty much for the sake of every run we did already on this game before the glitch was found.

any% should be enough for the glitch utilisation, everything inbetween is arbitrary for my taste.

That's why I always thought that 'Beat Kurt' would be a way better category and not even as insane as whatever definition of 100%. But pretty sure that wouldn't be added as a category either. Shouldn't stop anyone from running it, though.

For yellow/red/white I actually have the probably cheapest capture card on earth. The Eazycap. However it's still doing a decent job, despite you can get it for ~10$. Of course it hasn't the best quality but you can still see what's going on. (And if you play old games then the quality won't matter that much anyway) Also the delay is really low actually. So if you'd like to play of your screen and not the TV then you might do so, if you don't play something reaction heavy. Some people say they went into trouble with the drivers, but for me it worked great by just installing whats there on the delivered disc.

It only has two flaws:

  • the colors doesn't get shown correctly (saturation is lower then on your TV I'd say)
  • if you play for a long time (3-4h +) the audio starts getting de-synced. That's why I just don't capture the audio over the grabber but just have my TV near the mic. This way I never have de-synced audio. Also it is only the audio which does get de-synced. The video is always fine no matter how long I play!

So yeah you might want to fiddle around quite a bit to work with that capture card. But it's doing a really solid job if you should be extremely broke or something. If you only have 10 spare dollars, this is your card to go. (Since it's only 10$ it doesn't hurt too much to get another one, once you have a higher budget.)

@oddtom congratulations on fighting that addiction! I guess 1 month is quite an important threshold you are surpassing! May I know which kind of drug? Opiate kind of things are the first thing which comes into my mind to the term 'drug addiction' but you still can be addicted of pretty much everything, it's just that some things are way harder to beat then others. I really hope you can keep this up and stay healthy from now on and be safe. :) SWIM is probably less biased than anyone else because SWIM tried different drugs aswell and is still doing so. However when something turns into an addiction it's clearly no fun anymore and you have to realise the danger which comes with it.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I believe and you and I'm happy that you are making the change right now, because it's a really tough fight. You can be proud of yourself and I hope you will be even prouder the longer you stay drug-free.

Have a nice day! :)

Reminder to never, never, tell her how you feel, before you have connected mentally and physically. Otherwise it's doomed from the beginning onwards.

I would assume that GCN is faster, but I might be wrong. (Play it on the wii to be even faster?) The thing is that FDS only has effect on playstation one games. Anyone else who knows better than me?

However most games (not all of them) require an RTA run. There are lot's of long games, 5h+ 10h+ 20h+ really a lot of them. However most of them need an RTA run, at least on this site. That's how I recall the situation. However don't mind doing segmented runs. They are nice to do aswell and also a nice way to show your skill. But for most games you'll need an RTA run to submit to the leaderboards. Still you can try and ask but don't be disappointed if the leaderboards want the run in one sitting.

It's a very bad thing that there are still games which don't need any kind of video proof for verification. If you are claiming to have beaten a game in a certain time you should prove that, period. Not with a picture which can be photoshopped and furthermore not with a screenshot of your splits, because this is no proof at all. everyone can create splits without even doing the run in the first place. No video -> not getting verified. My opinion.

No big deal, I think I already know why emulators are banned here. The high velocity you get through the SNES mouse emulation might give players on emulator somewhat of an advantage maybe? However I didn't keep track of that so I did a few attempts on emulator without knowing that it's banned. my pb is a 4:54 so nothing too good. Because it's banned for the leaderboard, I'd at least want to show it here, if you allow that is:

For me personally the advantage doesn't really grasp because I tend to mess up with such an high cursor velocity. ^^

anyway have a nice day and gz to DoDeChehedron, that run looked sick!

Hey micsoul!

I already read your question on twitter. It was just a basic feeling of mine that tje ss4 goku fight should be required, because this is the significant difference between hard and the other modes. I thought that you should defeat him because unlocking ss4 goku was the main point of even playing the hard mode. Since I requested the game I was able to make the rules and it made sense for me.

We still may discuss this. Of course leaving the fight out would be the fastest completition, however this would give us three categories with simply three runs which don't differ in the slightest. Feel free to add your opinion on this. :) (also everybody else who is reading this and can relate)
