Depends on what you mean by 'start the manip'. You put the computer clock back a few seconds and start the run at such a time that the moment the game looks at the clock aligns with it being the time you want. I can't remember the exact moment the game polls the clock I'm afraid, all I recall is it is at some point after you click on the button to start the run.

At some point before you go into a duel the game uses the computer time to initialise the RNG, so it determines the way the deck is shuffled. So either set your computer time to something favourable before the run, or work out what times are favourable and go for those (and they happen often enough in the day that this is completely feasible). That bit of information is the key to the entire manip and with a little bit of playing around and experimentation you should be able to figure out the rest. It's been two years so I've forgotten the fine details, but I remember it being very simple.

But you can use RNG manipulation in no Exodia too. The game is so short and simple that there's really no way around that.

Possible? Yes. You pretty much need to know your way around with a hex editor to do it though.

Given one can just reset for whatever setup is optimal (normally Exodia, or whatever is left if you ban that), it's extremely hard to argue for any form of separation. What's so much better about resetting for Cyber-Stein OTK on Joey single duel? At least with a game like FM or Sacred Cards, the run isn't laughably short and even if there are issues with separation with those games there's some actual difference.

As I see it, the conversation came up because GFC brought it up, then it died quickly. Most of the latest discussion on this has been by people who just come along to chime in when this matter comes up. Based on that, I don't see a strong enough reason for change (and by this I am purely going off of the response, not the arguments for and against).

Restructer Revolution is basically a faster Tremendous Fire if you go first.

This thread is for whether we should split the LB into manip/no manip. If you actually have any suggestions on rules to have if we do this, please post them at https://www.speedrun.com/yugiohfm/thread/qjef7/.

I appreciate reading can be hard but please at least try.

Since we're reopening this discussion, I've decided to make a thread on this matter since it seems most agree this is a place where substantive discussion is needed. To clarify, this thread is about what the rules should be if there's a split. Discussion over whether there should be a split should be kept to the Discord server.

I'll start off by giving the two main issues here that need to be thought about, as I see it.

  1. It's not terribly difficult to manip a good drop at the start of the game off a not too obviously manipped starter deck. See the following: The main point with this is that it's more complicated than merely disallowing resets.

  2. In a 15 card race, Nate got deck 14888 (not 14810 as he suspected): This is pretty much identical with deck 14810, the original manip deck with 2 dragons, 5 thunders, Beast Fangs, and Raigeki. If we had a split, how do people think this kind of situation should be handled?

The general policy with new YGO categories these days is they can be considered after there's at least one run.

There are some stickied guides in the DotR Discord, which has a link on the sidebar.

PovkaLTU is correct, this glitch is known about in the speedrunning community.

The easy way to rig it is to set it up in free duel, that way you can put Labyrinth in good spots and control the deck.

Yes, the opponent's Destiny Draw is calculated differently. Only Yugi and Seto get it, the only condition is they're under 1000 LP, and it's 50/50 for Raigeki or Mirror Force.

I'll just chime in that Gcah's old time of 1:07:52 was codeless, so if you wanted a WR of sorts to compare against then it would be that.

This is a common problem. It's solved by going to Config > Video > Plugin Settings and setting the renderer to Direct3D11 (hardware will be better but software fixes the problem too).

The closest thing there is is Gcah's server which has a channel for this game: https://discord.gg/GyXuW6s

PSP is faster than PS2 FDS (and that's generally considered by the community to warrant a ban), and there's no official way to play it on PSP. If you disagree with this stance, you can start a discussion in the #rule-discussion channel in the discord.
