I agree entirely. I personally think that the requirement of 100% (all notes/endings) should be based on current patch and what can be obtained in it. I ultimately believe that this is something that should be agreed upon by the community though and if folks feel otherwise, I would be happy to abide by that.
Also I used your run as the example of when to end timing, but I just noticed that the rules indicate that time ends on touching the car at the last ending. Doing ending 5 last results in still having control of the character when you touch the car (have to shoot Michael) and I guess I'm wondering if it would be better to move around which ending I do last so that timing is more definitive or if a new place to end time should be discussed.
Very sorry about having so many questions, just want to make sure runs are good and official.
Yeah, came to find that the secret boss was not added until a later version of the game, so it would make sense either way. Getting secret boss note now would be true current hundo, but if v1.0 or any version without it are still accessible then it would be reasonable to ignore that note and current standing runs would still satisfy the all notes requirement. I chose to submit with 17 notes. If it's decided that the mirror note can be ignored I can just resubmit a different run. I support either one!
Hello! I was introduced to this series very recently through Vynnada's AGDQ 2022 run of FAITH: Chapter II and have a budding interest in running these games. I'm particularly interested in the Any% (All Notes, All Endings) run for this game and am wondering if the note that you acquire after beating the secret boss in the mirror is required? Currently the runs on the leaderboard that are intended to collect all notes do not collect that one and I guess I just wanted to ask so I can take the answer into account as I begin to learn and route the run.
Thanks so much in advance!
I'm also interested to see what folks could do with glitchless runs. It's definitely just a matter of getting runs submitted, as none of us that have runs up have done fully glitchless ones with intent to have them put up on a leaderboard. I put my full support behind getting a category up if you pull it off! Finances/healing items can be kinda brutal to keep stocked in this game without dupes so I would love to see what kind of tricks and routes can be made to mitigate that as much as possible.
Looking to come back to running normal brawler in the near future and I'm really glad that the issue with clone has been circumvented with herb tech. With this in mind, I think I am going to try 300 STR and see how that works. I am confident in my dupes and I think it might pay off to have that extra bit so you don't have to worry about Chaos Castle or the Chaos fight much at all.
"Runs get approved rather slow in Super Metroid."
This game doesn't even require verification on here, dude. What are you talking about?
Hey, neat finds! Haven't found anything like that in the time I've spent glitch-hunting. Great job!
One of the glitches that I have found but have not been able to consistently replicate or understand is this thing that happens with some bosses not spawning. It's only ever occurred in side dungeons (not part of main story.) There have been times where I've entered the boss room and the boss theme starts to play while the screen is still black and the room is loading, but shortly before it loads everything and you actually enter the room the victory fanfare cuts in prematurely and the portal leading to Klantol is already open. The boss doesn't spawn and you can just leave.
Figuring out how to force this would be really massive for the all dungeons categories and if you ever happen to catch any leads or promising information regarding it I would really love to hear about it.
Depends on the category.
Glitchless is by far the most popular category. Fundamentally it's a simple run, but being quick at it takes a LOT of honing. Getting used to movement and the rolling HP mechanic in battle is really important and takes a lot of practice as well. It's also long, so learning the whole route takes some serious dedication. If you are considering this category at all, you should check out the boogey% board and try learning that first. It's roughly 1/4 of the glitchless run and is a much easier run to digest.
Any% is not that popular, but that's mostly because it's pretty difficult. Most of the runs on the board use a fair deal of manipulation and require strong movement and input accuracy. Some of the glitches are pretty tough too. That said, there are times and routes on the board that are easier to do if you are not too worried about going as fast as humanly possible.
Those are the main categories. Any% Debug Menu would be a good one to look into if you want a shorter run.
Yeah, a glitchless run would involve a debate on what is and isn't a glitch and that's nasty territory, especially with the nature of some of the janky stuff in this game.
Changed name semi-recently, name was chosen impulsively and ended up not liking it much at all. Have put more thought into it and have since settled upon bakaFon. Requesting a final name change please.
Alright, so I just got home. I can throw together the board for J-Adventure, but I'm going to need to work out some kinks and figure out parameters and rules for Victory Road before I do that one.
I am unsure if that is possible. Shining Soul II isn't on the Wii VC store, so you'd need to get a separate GBA emulator channel to your Wii. You'd likely need to softmod your Wii as that sounds like something you could only achieve through Homebrew and that's assuming somebody out there has taken the time to make the application. The next challenge with it would be getting a SNES-style controller for it. I know that there are USB SNES controllers, but I don't think something like that would work through the USB port in a Wii. If you got one of the USB SNES controllers though, you could just keep doing it through your PC.
Recently changed my Twitch handle to NinjapupF. Can I please have my name here changed to that as well?
Thank you in advance for your time and help.
GC controller actually feels nice to dupe with if you swap the L/R buttons with X/Y. Willing to upload a video of me doing dupes with camera on hands/controller if anybody would like it as a reference at any point.
I think I'm going to refrain from submitting normal to the marathon. I'm finding that I don't enjoy the category like I used to, most likely because I'm not actually that interested in improving ninja time anymore. I think I will submit advanced just in case they want both NG and NG+. In the event that they don't, they will then have a choice. I'll be interested in normal again once I'm doing brawler strats, but it's too short notice to make my own route and be good at it by the time this event rolls around. Don't have enough time for practice these days.
I've actually been working at Normal ninja some more, had a couple runs a week ago that were going to be massive PB's. I've entertained the thought of a brawler/ninja race at some point, I think it's a fantastic idea. I will look into it!
