Hello people of Earth(?),

We've had a couple of questions recently regarding the "Buy Line," how/why we use it to retime, and what we define as crossing over it.

Why do we use the "Buy Line" and not something else? The Buy Line is used instead of something like the Buy Phase sign because while they are are both supposed to disappear after you cross the line, the sign doesn't always disappear right away. This obviously can cause inconsistencies with retiming as people can get farther through the map before their timers start which gives them an unfair advantage over other runners.

What do we mean when we say "crossed the line?" This is the most frequent question we get about the Buy Line. What we ask ourselves when retiming is: "If they look straight down does their crosshair cross over the Buy Line?" If the answer is yes, you've crossed the line. If the answer is no, you haven't crossed the line, however, this is subjective to the mod doing the retiming. The crosshair is used instead of the player model because you cannot see your body when you look down but you can see your crosshair.

What if you can't see the "Buy Line" in my run? In cases where the runner is not looking down or partially down and we cannot see the exact instance in which you cross the line, we use chipped tiles in the floor and the wall to estimate your crossing. For example, the Spike Defusing map has a large chunk of tiles missing right after the buy line on the left-hand side. When the edge of your screen touches the missing tiles, you've crossed the line.

Can we have an example? MrPotatobread has kindly allowed us to use his runs as examples for the forum post. In his runs, you can see him look straight down and edge his way over to the line to determine if he has crossed it. Example Link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=72_0wodWczA&t

As stated previously, the crossing of the line is subjective to the mod doing the retiming. If you think there is an error in the retiming or you think it was done unfairly, please submit a support ticket in the Valorant Speedrun Discord with the link to your run and your concern. If you have a more general question that doesn't require an answer from a Mod, you are also more than welcome to submit questions in the general chat of the aforementioned discord.

Thanks, Fm

"Actually PC here means any Windows computer so Linux is different."

According to who? By definition a PC is a Personal Computer, regardless of OS. We refer to Mac's and MacBook's as their names because that's the way Apple brands it, everything else is branded as PC. Linux is just as much as a PC as a Windows computer. The OS does not make it less of a PC.

"Also, with Xbox One X and Xbox One S you don’t know which Xbox One players could be using the S or X version..."

As you've been told multiple times, they are fundamentally the exact same and the players are still queued as if they are all using Xbox Ones. Same thing goes for the Series S and X. Unless there is some specific patch for a console that changes the way the game is played then there truly is no need for them to be singled out.

As we've told you multiple times there is no fundamental difference when it comes to which Xbox One you are using. They all fall under the "Xbox One" category because they are all still considered to be the Xbox One. It's not like the Xbox 360 and Xbox One as they are 2 vastly different consoles and are considered to be different generations. They all fall under the Xbox umbrella and there is no difference in the queuing system on ROBLOX for different versions of the Xbox One or the Xbox Series X/S.

Similarily to this, Linux falls under the generic PC umbrella because every operating system other than Apple's macOS is considered to be a PC.

The only thing I can assume would happen to runs is maybe each ability would get it's own category but that would mean adding 2-3 completely new categories to a game that has only had 1 for so long. Maybe they wont do anything, who knows.

Hello everybody,

Today I want to talk a little about timers and hopefully clear up some of the confusion. Using a timer in your run not only helps you, the runner, with seeing how quickly you performed a run, but it also helps us, the mods, to more accurately time your runs.

I have received a couple messages in regards to retiming and the fact that their time, and my retiming, are not the same. This partially has to do with the fact that when they submit a run, they put the time in incorrectly.

If you are using a timer such as LiveSplit, it shows time like this: "12.82". Some people may think that this means "12s 082ms" which is incorrect. It actually means "12s 820ms" with the ".82" being the hundredths and tenths place and not the tenths and ones place.

Mods have absolutely no problem retiming runs or correcting any category errors that may be submitted. You are also allowed to ask for a different mod to retime your run if you think it was done unfairly. Just note, that if your timer says "12.82" it is not "12s 082ms" is it actually "12s 820ms."

All of this being said, starting the run with a visible buy line (which is not a requirement) makes retiming much easier on us as having a buy line that is not visible forces us and you to guesstimate where you touch it which can lead to timing discrepancies.

Thanks, Fm :)

I feel like having the Xbox Series X and S as separate categories from the normal Xbox One category would just create an abundance of Xbox categories. Shouldn't the Xbox One category be changed to "Xbox" as fundamentally there is no difference in gameplay between the consoles that would require new categories?

I believe Obitual and I have had this conversation before as we've both had situations like this happen to us. When the survivor leaves before being officially killed (all of their health is gone or all of them are in pods so they all die simultaneously) it is not counted as a capture because while yes, you did put them in a pod, they never actually died.

This is also reflected in the end screen under "Survivors Captured" as MrWindy does not count rage quitters as captures unless they died before they left.

The VIP category, or more accurately the Private Server category, is for runs that are done on Private Servers. These servers cost 150 Robux per month and allow the owner of the server to configure specifically who can, and cannot join. (i.e. On my private server the only people that can join are people on my friends list and a few select people who I have played with before whereas if it was a Public Server, anyone can join at any time).

The category could probably do with a name change to "Private Server" instead of "VIP Server" as, like you have done, it can be easily confused with the in-game VIP system. However, the rules of the category do state that the runs must be done on a VIP/Private Server so it still correctly calls it by its name in the rules.

So for runs, like the robbery runs, where you have to exit the prison and exit the building, what does that specifically mean?

Does the timer start when the first person leaves the prison or is it after all 4 players leave the prison? Similar question for leaving buildings. Does the timer end when the last person exits the building or when they reach the ground?
