It was the default menu skin for the older RA versions.
There are two known methods, one that the full game run uses and an alternate version. I'm not sure how the full game runners do it but the alternate version jumps a frame earlier than the 0:20 strat and holds left on the same frame, for 4 frames. That will always break you through.
Definitely 0:24 pace, it probably would have been if you had jumped a frame later after the S tunnel. For 0:24, along with a good loop, it's ideal if you can land as close as possible to the edge of the ledge to carry as much speed as possible. It's not necessary to get a good ledge, but it pretty much carries any shortfalls earlier in the level.
Checkpoint is around the pace that you want it, ideally a 0:14.00 or better. I think there's 1-2 frames of timeloss somewhere but nothing stands out as incorrect so it's probably just rare bad luck. Loop was good enough for 0:24, there are faster speeds that you can get from it but that's not something you can manipulate. Keep playing like that and you should have it soon.
Hey! Thanks for coming back for verification, I'm grateful for the quick response. I agree with your post, although I would like to add that since I've been playing, that Discord channel had been down a few times before disappearing. It would be nice to get a new channel running again to promote activity within the game, I think it would be a lot more direct than the SRC forums.
If you're interested, I will step up as a moderator. I created the Flicky disassembly back in 2015 and I'm an active TASer in the Sonic Speedrun Community, so I have a working knowledge of what is and isn't mechanically possible within the game. My current schedule allows me to check SRC at least once a day and having no other games to moderate, they should be handled as promptly as possible.
Are the notifications broken? Someone beat an existing IL today in the game I run, for it to not show up in my notifications at all.
Sup.
First off, it's a pretty decent pace, checkpoint by 0:14.00 is where you at least want it. You could chuck in things like a fast acceleration at the start (notice how some 0:24s start out holding left then switch to right and jump once you get control? That will save 3 frames if done perfectly.) and the second loop can be slightly faster in your vid. If you get a loop speed that's too fast, sometimes you can die inside the second tunnel, but that can be mitigated by tapping left in the first tunnel. Aside from that, everything else is good!
Emulators are rather versatile due to its savestating features, beneficial for practicing by allowing you to instantly retry a trick if you missed it. Be warned that some ranking sites don't look too highly on unofficial emulation, and if you are bothered by that, then WiiVC is the way to go.
Sorry for the double post, but:
What I meant by my last post was that I found a way to predict the blocks on FC7 that is applicable to Lv 10, 100 etc., reason I didn't post it is bc it is a similar case w Arcade and regular mode. It might break it but idk what the general opinion is?
Grab us a vid when you can, we can't help unless we know how you're playing 👌
You have a video?
Like Pho said, 3 jump loops are the way to go for 0:24, along with optimised play: The fastest 0:24 I've seen using regular strats is only 0:24 by 5 frames. I'd personally suggest joining the Discord server as it's more active, and try to get a video so we can give you a hand.
I'll give a few pointers:
- Make sure to at least jump at the start because you'll accelerate to top speed from a standstill faster while in the air.
- If you're aiming for 0:24, you might want to use 3 jumps in the loop, because a 2 jump 0:24 is a handful of frames off perfect. It will do for 0:25 though.
- For 0:24, the latest time I've seen hit the checkpoint and still get the time is 0:14 and ~2 frames, so you'll want to make sure as you hit the checkpoint, it's just turned 0:14 a fraction of a second or earlier.
- Same for the first S-tunnel. If the clock passes 0:18 before you've entered it, it's not 0:24 pace. A high 0:17 might not either but that's a good marker.
Aside from that, your main cause of speed loss is the air speed cap, like above.
Hey! I've been thinking about this for a bit and I was wondering: What about a Flash Columns times page for the amateur and pro board? The difficulties play differently enough to novice where it might actually be worth making, as some of the times achieved just wouldn't be possible on the higher difficulties due to the starting boards being a lot more disjointed.
i do admit that i love this game mode a bit too much
