@NewJourneysFire I never understood those kinds of people. Like, they're not even speedrunning the game, and their experience will literally not change whether it's patched or not. Ugh

How much time do you suppose it can save, if any? And how would one go about routing this?

Massachusetts, USAClaireDiviner3 years ago

Apparently, it also restored loading times back to the way it was in 1.0.0, as tested by some runners, so that’s a good thing.

Massachusetts, USAClaireDiviner3 years ago

I don't think the patch notes mentions anything that would affect currently used speedrun glitches, but whether they patched said glitches without saying so remains to be seen.

@Random2478 I don't think Pseudo Wave should be considered a major glitch. It's easy enough to pull off with practice (only the one leading to Space Jump is my least consistent), and is not much different a glitch than the comparable and easy-to-do gate glitch or Mock Ball, from Super Metroid. Sure, Pseudo Wave skips the water boss, but Mock Ball skips Spore Spawn. I think major glitches should be saved for tricks that fundamentally break the game.

@ConnorShika Maybe, if one is playing a physical copy, one can delete all game data for Dread, and then upon starting up said physical copy, not update it? Just a wild shot-in-the-dark guess, since I have no clue how it works.

How do we send proof of version? I saw nowhere in-game that lists the version number; not even the title screen, which one would think would display the version number.

The top 10 runs use this tech, I believe.

Switch Pro Controller. As to what route to run, just watch any video of the top 10 runners, and they all run more or less the same route. As for how to do various tricks for speedrunning, You can find some resources on YouTube; Hardpelicn's videos are helpful in this endeavor, as well as Samura1man's.

Someone I know tested the max rate of fire, and it’s far greater than what mastered double mashing can achieve, so I can say that a turbo controller can very well make a massive difference in fights where mashing matters, like the Chozo Warrior fights, or Raven Beak. It’s for that reason, a separate category for turbo controllers wouldn’t be a bad idea for those who either can’t mash, or simply don’t want to.

Massachusetts, USAClaireDiviner3 years ago

No one knows how to replicate it, but holy cow, will this be absolutely essential for bosses going forward, if we can figure this out.

As for your little trick, I can't think of any place where it can have a use, but it's neat to know you can do that. Can you do that elsewhere? Or just the elevator room to Raven Beak? If the latter, then yeah, this has no use outside of slight amusement.

Given there was an insane skip discovered 15 or so hours ago, where Samus’s whole body clips through floors now, it’s possible to get Screw Attack before Plasma. Not sure if the tricks are RTA viable, but now would be a good time for a glitchless category.

@ChrisisMode I might try that. I think my right arm is starting to look buffed and ripped from all the vigorous button mashing at this point.

Massachusetts, USAClaireDiviner3 years ago

I welcome the idea of skipping Corpius; that boss has always been annoying to me, even on good days.

Massachusetts, USAClaireDiviner3 years ago

Get a turbo controller... Or have really fast fingers.

That's... quite the oversight, A, and B, wow, it's no wonder I couldn't shinespark before the Flappy Bird sequence.

I dunno, isn't Corpius needed because of Phantom Cloak? Is there progression in the early game where Phantom Cloak isn't required?

Massachusetts, USAClaireDiviner3 years ago

Trust and believe, while I can definitely button mash, doing so too often leads to such fatigue to my right arm, I swear I was hitting the gym hard... on just that arm. I fully support the idea of a Turbo category.

Ordinarily, that would insta-kill (that goes without saying, I'm sure). Knowing that it IS survivable, maybe we can try and see if we can figure out the right positioning to survive it. Because, frankly speaking, that final shot otherwise just plain ticks me off.

Maybe in the future, when this game becomes harder to purchase/Nintendo wouldn't care (as much) about the game being emulated. As of now, given Nintendo's reputation on these matters, we should probably hold off on emulator categories, for better or worse.

I personally have no issues with emulators myself, as I ran Gyruss on RetroArch.
