For a long time I've known the rules to be -Not changing the disc while the console is on except when the game prompts you to -Time ends on the first frame of the final damage number

I don't remember where I read or heard this but it was when I started running a long time ago.

End-time might be a little obscure on 'final hit' but JP time ending isn't much better.

The thread is entirely sarcastic (I hope, anyway)

We clearly don't need the EU, so let's make our own marathon: UKSA

It's impossibly difficult. Only been done once on emulator with many save states and playing on the lowest possible framerate.

Guadosalam skip was the only patched skip in the PS4/PC release, all others should work (although typically only one on Mi'ihen and Jysscal sphere skip are attempted)

There are still other skips such as Calli skip and Clasko skip but these aren't typically done, either being too difficult or not saving enough time (as well as being difficult/risky). I'm not sure anyone has confirmed that these work on HD but I assume they do.

Worth noting that Djose skip is much more feasible to do on HD because Tidus runs faster, allowing you to get further before needing to be pushed by the chocobo. Although the skip is still incredibly difficult. It's easier still on HD version as you can pause buffer easier with the new Escape menu, but I wouldn't recommend anyone attempt it in a speedrun.

As you said though, Guadosalam is fixed but the other 2 work no problem. Mi'ihen might be a bit more difficult because of the different talk range on NPCs but still feasible.

Personally don't really think it's worth restarting unless there's a decent collection of people that are seriously committed to it

That said, I don't intend on continuing it or taking part any time soon anyway so don't let that stop you from starting it yourself anyway. Like you said, it's easier to transfer save files so anybody can join in whenever. I also never finished routing out the run because I couldn't decide on a strat for seymour and wendigo.

Another problem is loading times. Since the game will load faster on SSD (and faster SSDs at that), some people may not be able to take part if their system is not fast enough, and it's troublesome to compare load times

There wasn't all that much discussion on the usage of auto-clicker vs turbo (or any on the forum) I'll just quickly outline some of the reasons why turbo is considered allowed (but is still a variable on the leaderboard, so runs that did and did not use turbo will be identifiable).

I think it's possible to say the decision is 'temporary'. Due to the nature of FF9 PC having shit menus that are optimal with mouse and keyboard, there probably aren't going to be that many runners of a high skill level. It's likely to remain 'entry level' because of it's ease of access, people can enjoy the speedrun to an extent, but serious competition is likely to stay on console.

If there are a lot of runners that disagree with turbo that aren't running, they can hide the runs that use turbo on the leaderboard If there are a lot of runners that disagree with turbo and ARE running, they'll have to submit their times to the same leaderboard, but as of right now there are so few runs that creating separate leaderboards is nonsensical. If you disagree with turbo, stick to what you believe and continue to run without it, and if there is enough demand and enough runs in the future then an extra category can be made and the runs will move over as it's needed. Until then, you're likely to compare your own run with the turbo runs anyway, because there just aren't enough non-turbo runs. Useless to create such a similar category with little competition.

If you'd like, don't consider it as 'turbo is allowed' but consider it as 'we're merging 2 leaderboards because having 2 is stupid (for now at least)'

The ease of access is the main appeal for FF9 PC speedrunning, and an auto clicker doesn't change that (if anything it improves that as it means you can still take breaks)

Just give them sensible names like "Any%" and "Any% no boosters" (or "Any% w/ boosters" and "Any%")

Not this stupid meme% or F12345% shit that doesn't tell you the objective of the speedrun

Of course, the times will be completely separate from playstation.

FMV Skip and short battle transition accepted, given that 4+ people have already completed boosterless runs and they all skipped FMVs. I think the only thing to discuss is autoclicking/keyboard turbo for dialogue. Splitting this up again causing 4 categories for PC already would be pretty silly and I'd personally prefer to side with no autoclicking/turbo.

If the staff want a photo/name for identification I understand that, but still, why can't the photo/picture on the lanyard be different from the one used for identification (on the system).

Simply put, I think people will have an easier time identifying each other from avatars than from photos. Having a portrait photo on the system for the staff, and having any image on the lanyard should satisfy everybody, I would think.

If this is something you won't reconsider just say so.

If a couple minutes late is still 'acceptable late', then at what point is it 'too late'. 2 days? a week? If week late submissions are still being accepted, then the deadline might as well be moved to be a week later.

On a side note I do think submissions are way too early. Why do they have to be in March for an event that happens in July? This will only cause more drop outs for people unsure if they can go, and closer to the event I'll have a better idea of what games I'd like to play. If I decided to learn a new game now, I could easily get the run good enough in time for ESA, but it's already past submission. I know it's a moot point now, but for next year perhaps. I can't really think of a decent reason to have submissions so early.

Not very many cuts at all, 2nd round will be fun if you decide to do only 1 stream

It'd make the most sense for lost lanyards to be handed in to the tech crew or something. At least, that's where I would go if I lost mine, not just wait around hoping for someone to hand it to me directly.

Symbolizing yourself with your face makes sense when people already know your face. Having to ask who someone is when you already know them is silly, but necessary when you don't recognise their face.

It's the same as restricting usernames on the lanyard and only allowing real names.

Unknown
United KingdomCereth9 years ago

I disagree on the photo restriction on the lanyard. Having a photo of the person that's wearing it seems somewhat pointless considering you can already see their face. In some cases I think it will be much easier to identify people from seeing their forum/twitch avatar alone, without having to even read the name on the lanyard

Save everywhere. Don't try to go fast, try to learn the game.

United KingdomCereth9 years ago

It definitely won't be in the same category as PSX as it isn't the PSX version. I'm not a runner of either PC or PS4 so it's not for me to decide, but it might be fair to merge PS4 runs with PC no warps runs.
