Imo, that's fine. All for fun anyway and everyone would know if a time wasn't legit too
I'm always down for races! I'm free almost any Sunday so I'd surely race this weekend whatever time
There's nobody actively playing it, but I wouldn't call it out of date necessarily. Gamecube is the oldest version and many people still play it, so age doesn't really make something out of date but yeah, wii is an inactive version. Even though it's not competitive, it would be a plesent version to run, as it has consistent loads and is very stable
Never seen that, but I guess PC has more potential for glitches exclusive to specific machines. Pretty strange though
Also if it happened it could be an alternate option to make it into the 5 full chapters (1-1 through 1-3, 2-1 through 2-3, etc.) I have seen some games that treat ILs this way
Main reason is there is no way to select a specific IL without just having a save there. RE5 is great for ILs, since we can pick any segment and build an inventory for that segment right then and there. In fact, because the IGT resets with checkpoint reset in that game, we even have 2 sub categories of ILs for SS and segmented.
I guess you could do this in RE4, just by making the inventory you want for a specific IL and making a save, but that seems like a pain and there simply has never been any interest in it, especially when you could just do a segmented run if you wanted to optimize chapters. If sizable interest ever arose for ILs then yeah, we could definitely make it happen. It could even still be IGT by simply subtracting the time you started at from the time you finished according to the typewritter.
If it ever did become a thing though, I would advocate for it to be NG+ only, since there would be no way to gauge appropriate inventory for NG (this is how it is on RE5 currently, NG+ only)
The load remover was made by Wipefinger and it works very well, though I believe it is being modified at the moment. With the way it works, the end time on the results screen actually displays the load removed time.
I am the only mod on here who knows anything about it, so discussions need to happen before it is made legit on here or not. If we do, it will not replace regular runs with loads included, it would be a sub category. If you look at the SRcom page for REmaster, they have a sub category for "door skip" which is a form of load removal for that game. The RE4C load remover would be treated just like that.
For the time being, load remover runs are already accepted on the RE4 Central spread sheet which can be accessed here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UbFSXJwmFCBQDZibaDoJon3pJmA342L9l0mF5Dmubco/edit?ts=5832245b#gid=1335461608
It's happened only one other time other than this one. It's true that every shot has to connect but there is also a specific way of shooting the barrels and most of all, you have to be very lucky as it is still highly random even when executed perfectly
Maybe you've seen it already Chalk but be actually just did a commentary on what we believe to be the first recorded NG+ run which at that time the run was glitchless.
You asked about shooting that light from the other side in 5-3 and that is actually done in this run. I guess it should be considered a skip but I wouldn't really say it's a glitch so much as an abuse of mechanics
There is no such thing as a "glitchless WR" for this game as it's not a category and there has never been intent to make it one. Glitchless categories usually exist in games that are broken to the point where there is no semblance of the actual game anymore (see Ocarina of Time or Luigi's Mansion.) RE4 already has a ton of categories so glitchless would feel redundant imo, especially when the No Merchant category is nearly glitchless, as the only useful glitch that is even possible in this category is the bolder skip.
With that said there is no reason you shouldn't run glitchless if you want to, just because you can't upload a time to a leaderboard doesn't mean you shouldn't play the game in the way you enjoy playing it!
When Maxyskip was first found everyone thought it was random. Since then we've developed a setup that works /every time/ with correct execution (hard!!!) With that said, I have some hopes that we can do the same with this glitch. From there, whether or not it is limited to certain versions is yet to be seen I guess
PC is definitely the most popular platform and the best experience in terms of fast paced game play. Like Phaero said, wii is a super solid version, there's just no one playing it atm. Gamecube is very different (especially NTSC) and is a pretty cool run. When it comes to considering GC, I suggest you watch a run, with this version you will either feel instantly drawn to it or instantly turned off by it.
Basically, just study some runs on these different versions and see what appeals most to you! Everyone here is very willing to help new comers so don't hesitate to ask any other questions you may have either here or even in our streams. I also recommend checking out RE4Central on Youtube if you've never seen this channel, it is loaded with resources useful for learning.
Pretty nuts, interesting that the trigger works that way. Any ideas on how that could possible be abused legitimately?
Saving is fine. If someone tried to splice using a save, we would know (has happened.)
I've actually never heard of someone crashing on 2-1. If you have not lowered your video settings to the lowest quality possible, I recommend doing so. This will not only nearly eliminate the chance of crashes, but it will also save you time via faster loads and less chance of dropped frames.
