I guess I just missed it. Added it now.

My thought was the RTA implies continuity of playthrough while without it's just doing both. I guess the rules settle this matter regardless.

Kentucky, USACaneofPacci1 month ago

Sounds like a good category. I'll go ahead and make it under the name "All Tournaments RTA" but if you have a different name you think it should be called, we can change it.

Kentucky, USACaneofPacci3 months ago

That's a good point. I don't think anyone has submitted PAL individual levels, but I will keep that in mind.

I just wanted to make a note about decimals. Since there are 30 frames per second, that means every 0.1s consists of 3 frames. The way I've been breaking it down further is X.X00s, X.X33s, & X.X66s.

I moved it into the Misc tab for now, but I guess since only you two run it, I can just delete it. Just wanted to double check before I do so.

Dima, I'm only talking about stage timing for individual level submission. So with the proposed timing method, someone could retime a gold split from a speedrun and submit that.

I think I have finished making all the adjustments to the leaderboards.

I renamed and adjusted the rules for the traditional "Any%" category. This category hadn't changed since Adrian had made it 8+ years ago. I changed the name from "Ultra Hard" to "Any%" because I don't see any reason to limit participation on difficulty. Playing on a lower difficulty just makes you slower, so all that limitation does is turn away new players.

Final Ending (Any%) and All Stages have been separated into their own categories. I believe I moved all of raids' runs correctly but please verify.

100 Attack has been added. I put this in as a main category since it feels like a complete run but let me know if people disagree.

Create Any% has been added as a misc category.

Stage leaderboards have been added as leaderboards. See here for more discussions on this.

I've not included an “Unlocking everything“ or “Max%“ category at this time. Raids, please start a new forum post to discuss this topic if you're interested in it. Other than deciding on the category name, I think the following also need to be addressed in advance:

  • Run Start Point
  • Run End Point
  • Restate all requirements for a completed run
  • Create mode discussion.
  • Methods of simplified verification. (How do I verify a run without it taking me literally hours)

Even if this type of category doesn't have an official leaderboard on SRC you're still welcome to do runs if it is of interest to you.

So I made leaderboards for all of the levels, but wanted to get opinions on the proper timing convention before accepting new runs.

My intent was to allow submissions of stage clears that are done under many conditions, which is to say a level clear could be done in a speedrun or individually with no further context. So I wanted a standardized timing that could apply for all stages.

The timing I want to propose is as follows:

  • Starting with the 1st frame when the stage name is displayed. So "1st S T A G E" for stage 1.
  • Ending on the 1st frame when the "C L E A R" text is displayed.

The ending timing is pretty standard at this point but this would adjust the starting time as allow submissions from either speedruns or individual level practice.

Runs would still be required to provide full context so that it is clear that Create mode or other methods aren't used to achieve the time, but not all of the mandatory video footage would be included in the leaderboard time. This would lead to the existing TECTONICS runs having their times adjusted.

Here is an example:

Kamey's run of 6:25 would be adjusted to become a 6:21.04

Also I have enabled decimals for the level runs.

Ok I will try summarize and respond to the thread as a whole since the point at which I last commented.

Proposed new category objectives:

  1. 100 Attack
  2. Create
  3. Tektonics
  4. Final Ending Any% vrs All Stages discussion
  5. "Unlocking everything" or a "Max%" category

My thoughts:

100 Attack. So a speed run of all 100 practice puzzles. This makes sense to me.

Create: Same as the category in Intelligent Qube so sure. It has limited complexity due to the nature of the category but if people want to do runs then why not.

Tektonics: I already added this as an individual level. Since it is possible to select which stage you start on, would there be interest in adding every stage as an individual level?

Final Ending Any% & All Stages is a better way to delineate the objectives. Referring to the two objectives as NoGO & GO is a poor delimitation so I agree with renaming them. I will attempt to preserve the existing submitted runs for this category, but it may not be possible. raids_shine may be required to resubmit all his runs. As for the legitimacy of the All Stages category, it's a cooler run. All Stages is a hybrid between Any% and high I.Q so I think it's a novel category at the ~30min length.

All skins or "Max%": Category name aside, do people want a leaderboard for this? Unless a rule is added that at the end of the run, you must scroll through the menus to verify the completion of this objective, this is not something I want to verify runs for. Is it possible to use Create Mode to accelerate these objectives? Now that I think about this, I feel like there are some possible shenanigans to make this run interesting.

Closing Comments: Adding new categories and objectives is fine with me as long as each is unique and the objective is easily verifiable. There are several conversations to be had here so this post might be a bit cluttered. Sorry in advance.

Nah, your run was for 100 teensies, not any%. So there's not route requirements for that objective other than achieve the goal (100 teensies). The reason your run was ignored, like several other submissions, is that the platform you played on is not loadless, and you didn't provide a loadless time. So it sat in the queue.

DJthed & Samuroleon extremely sporadically (less than once a year) have in the passed retimed runs. If a run is invalid, I'll reject it fairly quickly, but if it's technically valid but not a complete submission, there's a few runs sitting there that fit this description.

I got down to 41s but it was kind of sloppy. Could easy see like 35s happening.

Watch the run and verify it for yourself :shrug

Any chance of mysterium leaderboards?

Kentucky, USACaneofPacci6 months ago

I went ahead and added Game Over/No Game Over as sub categories for Final Ending.

I didn't know that worked, but I don't see any reason why that would be unacceptable. I suppose the only question is if there's interest in having separate categories: no game over abuse, & w/ game over abuse.

So when making the 100% TAS, I actually analyzed this route to get to the green frog and it was slower than the route that was settled on. (I checked my notes from August 13, 2013 to verify)

Using the first frame of the fade to dark after menu select is basically in line with what I did. The first frame of the fade in your "53.99" run would be the 1614th Frame (13.03s). So a time of 54s would be accurate.

We don't currently have a co-op any% category but one could be made.

Kentucky, USACaneofPacci6 months ago

I wanted to post a thread to discuss this. The exact start and stop time for runs isn't typically critical to get exact frame accuracy on, but since raids_shine submitted the following Any% with Warp run, I think it is important to state the exact start & finish time.

The start time is from menu select:

This frame is from exactly the 13.00 second mark [Frame #312] but based on audio I'm not sure if the exact frame would be this or the next frame.

The time stops when the text "C L E A R" appears:

This frame is at 1:07.21 [Frame #1613].

Thus, this run is 54.21s long.

I wanted to get other opinions since this run seems basically optimal so I'm not sure if 53s is possible. Many years ago when selecting the end of the run, the initial idea we had was when the play loses control which would be a few frames prior to the CLEAR text, but we chose the CLEAR text as that is a more consist method. If the start & finish times are adjusted a few frames, menu select to lose control, this run could potentially be frames faster. At present the run would need to be 6 frames faster to be 53.xx long.
