The argument of "use other platforms to satisfy this need" isn't really logical. "Why create Twitter, when you can just follow people on Facebook?"

The problem with the "advice" you all have is that you're forcing users to rummage through disparate sources to put things together. Obviously, platforms such a Discord and Youtube exist where you can find this info, but that's not the point of SRC. This is a place to aggregate speedrunning content.

Frankly, being able to follow users is a basic feature on any other platform. SRC should follow suit. The dev project to do this would be pretty small and it would improve the usability and accessibility of the site.

Sorry if this has been requested before, or if it's already a feature I wasn't able to find. :)

It would be really cool to follow users and see their recently verified runs on the front page, like I see runs for games I follow.

There are people in my community that have just picked up speedrunning. It would be cool if I could more easily follow their progress.

Like the post said, we're unbanning it for any% and still evaluating it for other categories.

Obviously 2-loop is the easiest to unban next, but it's a really small category and we focused our efforts on rolling out any% first.

This is a good question. As of now, assume they won't be allowed, but the mod group will chat about the topic and make updates and alert you when a decision has been made.

@Bsquiggle - I play on NES with a cart. I don't know why Konami messed up so bad with PRG 0. I personally don't have any problems with allowing the Famicom rerelease for any%. I'll touch base with the other mods on the subject.

Wisconsin, USA2snek4 years ago

@Kochen - the Anniversary Collection NES version is allowed, but that version is a bad version of the ROM that will sometimes crash. If you want to submit for easy%, you can use the Famicom version, but that version isn't currently allowed on the any% leaderboards.

You're right, I was drinking a little too much of the Hateraide and I apologize for that. But if it's your intention to have an open, honest debate on the subject, undermining folks on twitter ain't helping. I'll adult up here, but I'm going to ask you to do the same.

If you want to have some drama, let's have some drama. If you want to have a friendly debate, let's have a friendly debate. But you can't choose friendly debate on SRC and snack on popcorn on twitter.

I guess it's just a coincidence that you fire up a new thread the same day one of your submissions gets rejected for using the banned version. 🤔

Wisconsin, USA2snek5 years ago

Infer what you will, but you've been explicit in going after whip only WR, but I guess you don't want to do it the same way everyone else did. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Leaderboard bloat is bad, I agree. Imho, it's probably why CV 3 has suffered from a lack of popularity, despite being such a great game. There's no definitive category, which I think turns people off.

Despite this ideology, my opinion is that it's a disservice to earlier generations of CV speedrunners that grinded whip only and low % runs on NES, despite knowing that FC is faster, because those were the rules. It's not cool to change the rules and use the new rule set to "beat" earlier players.

I recommend creating a new board for whip only % FC and allow folks that are interested in running the fastest possible version for whip only. If folks are truly interested in running the fastest version of the game, it won't take long for that new board to fill up and make the old one obsolete. But then it would have happened naturally, rather than shoehorned because 1 player wanted to play with different rules.

Wisconsin, USA2snek5 years ago

Frankly, I don't really hate the idea of allowing FC on any%, because it's pretty marginal. But for whip-only and low%, make a separate leaderboard for it (which I also hate, generally) and by your logic, that new leaderboard should be come the definitive category for those attempts. Problem solved.

Is it interesting to lobby to change the rules, so you have an advantage over talented runners that came before?

For the bat trick in stage 2 - the bat doesn't render until the 3rd frame, but actually loads on the 2nd frame. So if you activate the stopwatch on the 2nd frame, you don't see him until the stopwatch finishes, but he's still there.

For the bat boss swoop pattern - this is driven by how many frames you lose on the way to the boss from the door at the start of stage 3. A good method to get you started is to jump over the zombie on the 2nd platform and grab the potion (without stopping), then fall off the platform with the stairs, not jump off. Once you get to the boss, walk up to the third stair, and when he descends, go up to the 4th and wait for his swoop. If you've done it correctly, he'll give you a fast pattern.

p.s. we talk a lot about strats and whatnot in the discord. You'll certainly get more eyes and help over there.

My statement before was countering the point that heart counts don't matter, because everyone leaves every level at 0. This is obviously false. In addition to level 1, for medium skilled players, heart count in level 4 is common, due to big hearts in stage 11. And your math is right - it's +8 frames in US.

It's important to note that with a change like this, the JPN version would suddenly become the definitive version. Accessibility absolutely is a valid argument, since Castlevania is a classic game that's relatively popular; we wouldn't want to reduce accessibility without a compelling reason.

But honestly, I don't really care that much. Like Wolf pointed out, the impact it would have on my runs with my current level of play is approximately 0. I'd like to ask the question, though, is there a compelling reason to add it?

Wisconsin, USA2snek5 years ago

Just a friendly reminder that the current CV 1 WR has a heart countdown in level 1.

Good ideas, Glithen. My GF and I often joke about how silly the ms-timed runs are. I love your idea about diety dash - speedrun Civ the way it was meant to be played! :)

Hi all,

I submitted a couple of runs a little over a week ago and was just wondering if there was any additional info or content I can provide to help in the verification process.

Thanks! Efridge
