I have spent the last two evenings trying to troubleshoot RE2 (sourcenext) FPS problems and have solved nothing. The game just doesn't feel very good and FRAPS showed that it is locking at 25FPS. I have tried compatibility options, and running as admin. I have even tried to make my GPU actually try to work when the game is running but it only gave me 1 extra FPS. The only thing that sort of works is having a stream on in the background, or something similar. This gives me 29FPS but suffers FPS drops all the way down to 22. This worries me as I feel like I have looked everywhere and there isn't one single real solution to it. I don't know if it means much, but RE3 (mediakite) runs flawless. I read that I should try to install patch 1.1 and I'm not sure if that did anything. I'm also not sure if it even installed correctly though. Clicking on update doesn't actually seem to do anything, but clicking the bio2 exe loads the game. Not sure if that means it loaded patch 1.1 or not as I can't find anywhere to verify which version. I really don't know where to go from here. Supposed to be learning Leon A any% route this weekend with my friend who is a big RE console guy. Going to feel like a complete idiot after hyping up the PC version all week. I can hear him now, "So this is the big great PC version everyone runs, eh?" Maybe I'll tell some lies, "Oh yeah, actually 25FPS is optimal, you are just not used to it." T.T

few things you can try;

uninstall the game and reinstall, then delete the bio2.exe file (don't even open the game before deleting the exe) and replace it with the directx fix exe from here - http://www.speedrun.com/re2/resources (at the bottom of this page)

If this still doesn't work download 1.1 from here - http://www.speedrun.com/re2/resources After you click the patch and it creates the new 1.1 exe make sure you move that exe from the folder it creates into the game directory (usually it will be somewhere here) C:\Program Files (x86)\CAPCOM\BIOHAZARD 2 PC

once the game is installed check to see if your registry files for the game are correct if not you can change them. Heres mine. to get here just search for regedit on your computer. your biohazard 2 folder may be in a different location to mine but it will be there, somewhere.

the value for "MovieEnable" can be set to 0 to disable movies which could result in more FPS

most problems seem to come down to sound, whether if be drivers, software or just the regedit files for the game so have a play around with it

I uninstalled and reinstalled, deleted the bio2.exe and replaced it with the fix. Still gave me the same problem. The 1.1 patch link doesn't work anymore, the file has been removed. I'll skip that for now as I am still confused about patch 1.1 and exactly how it works. I have downloaded the patch somewhere, and it came with 4 files. bio2.exe, readme, a random file named update that I can't do anything with, and an update exe. I open the update exe and am presented with a bunch of gibberish since I don't have a jp language pack installed (assuming). I have two things I can do, hit the box with "??" and close it, or hit the box with "?????????" and go to a new screen that I cannot get passed and eventually have to close.( Picture of the screen http://imgur.com/a/1pXR0 ) I also tried to use the bio2.exe the patch came with but still get the 25FPS problem. On to the regedit issues now. I opened regedit and found the Biohazard 2 folder. You have way more entries than I do, I only have 4. I'm curious, but is there actually a fix or is it just that most runners are streaming/recording so they get the benefit of the bandaid fix that is running OBS? Can anyone actually run RE2 PC all by itself and have it maintain 30FPS on a modern PC?

low FPS is a known issue it's known mostly as "pal mode" but it's actually quite a rare occurrence and usually it's a very simple fix. but to answer your question, yes. most if not all runners can run the game at a steady 30 frames without the need to have anything open, myself included.

seems like an issue with the install since you barely have any regedit files though

I tried install again, but this time I didn't run the setup from within the folder, I just did the autorun. Now I have regedit files, I seem to have more than you though. http://imgur.com/a/3OAZF

EDIT- Same problem occurs however.

EDIT- I feel as if I have exhausted all my options and haven't got anywhere. Might be time to call it quits. Even the bandaid fix couldn't hit 30FPS. Would stay at 29FPS most of the time but would drop as low as 20! Reminded me of playing PS3/PS4 games that claim to be locked 30FPS, Haha! I think I'll look into PSPemu as a plan B cause I really enjoy classic REs on keyboard.

The PAL thing happens with RE1 / 2 PC. It comes and goes for me sometimes, but generally the game will work without OBS open. Try change the affinity in task manager, and see if that helps.

If you're using programs to check RE2's FPS, just know that RE2 isn't actually 30 FPS. It's 29.97, so most programs that read FPS will pick it up as 29. The game isn't necessarily a fixed FPS and can dip sometimes, and it's hard to know what you mean by running slow because we don't have any footage to look at.

(Windows 10 has known issues with slowdown, so if you're on Windows 10 then that might be one reason)

As far as I know RE2 PC runs at about 27 fps not even 30 so don't think it should reach 30 by any means.
