Is there any chance of making pal region a selectable choice as I just uploaded my first speed run but I did on pal region hardware but there is no options for it

look at the rules

Can we see some evidence please, instead of just saying 'look at the rules'

Theres old threads about it from my years ago. Very good Japanese version WR's were beaten by very bad PAL runs on Gamecube and PlayStation (console and Emu btw)

For example Poppos Leon A PS2 run was beaten by 1 minute on a PAL run that picked up the shotgun and had very poor routing. Basically a new runner posting practically their first ever run beat a WR that stood for 7 years, a run regarded as the best console record to ever be submitted until it was very recently beaten for real.

Also on gamecube the WR was beaten by 3 minutes, cant remember the exact time but it was sub 59 (IGT) Leon A on PAL.

There were other runs but those are the 2 that stood out the most, it was discussed at length right here on the forums and in discord at the time it was a problem, ultimately it was decided that since there were only 5 runs throughout the entire leaderboard on PAL all of which were old runs it was best to remove them rather than separate by regions to cater for a dead platform, something that i personally still stand by today.

I don't think it would hurt to open them back up as separate leaderboards to be honest especially if they can go faster as speedrunners we want the fastest possible times and if that can be opened up then sounds great might even get a few more people running the game again, unless there is an issue with how IGT works then I guess all that should be done is an investigation into it so we can create rules for it

Stop trying to make PAL happen.

What affect would it have for you to be against it having a separate leaderboard?

Just looking for more of a contribution than stop trying to make something happen, as it does little to no help either way. Why is it that PAL shouldn't happen on its own separate thing?

If moderation is an issue I have no issues helping out

PAL isn't banned on Dreamcast because it runs at 60hz so it can directly compete with NTSC-U.

50hz PAL (GCN, PS, N64) is 17% slower than NTSC but it seems the Devs never changed the IGT to account for the lower FPS, so yes on the surface PAL is "faster" on IGT compared with NTSC but only because it's broken. You aren't going to see a surge in runners importing PAL consoles to get a lower IGT when it comes at the cost of a 17% slower game and so much more real time lost for 1 attempt. 50hz PAL has and always will be dead.

Ok honestly really appreciate the explanation. My only question which hasn't been answered is what harm would it be if it had a separate leaderboard? When I said might bring some people back into running the game I wasn't talking huge surge but obviously there are people who want to run it so why not just put a leaderboard there?

I’m going to put my 2 pence in here, I’m a runner in the HP speedrunning community and there communication between their runners and members and mods is excellent and always up for creating new categories and splitting boards where it can create potential new runners or fix leaderboards, there is zero argument against creating a new category or leaderboard split for PAL, just because you may only see 1 or 2 runners in a particular category is honestly just childish arguments, people are so closed minded here , you refuse to change and in the end that’ll be the downfall of other categories on these boards, all I’m asking is be more open to change , just because something is “potentially broken” doesn’t mean people won’t run it , and ffs add an Emu / real hardware split , some people cannot get real hardware and would love to run Emu , just have a split leaderboard for it , it doesn’t take long to set up but my guess is people are too lazy to do it.

50hz has always and will never be dead, that's just your opinion on it. If anything NTSC-J is a dead category cos none of us have ever owned a Japanese Playstation or even played Biohazard cos we had Resident Evil instead. Not making PAL available for anyone is just you simply not making it as accessible to run as it should be. So you're telling me you've banned re2 and only allow biohazard 2? Cos now this now ties in with the NTSC-U re2 runs against Biohazard 2 with its completely different loading times. See none of this makes sense now. Just open PAL I did it with Cool Boarders 2 and have had several PAL runs be submitted this year, actually more so than NTSC. I've seen many people request PAL and you just say no. I don't get it like

The fact iv still had no response to my question does upset me a little it seems as if the mods don't want to allow it due to personal preference against PAL. If it is such an issue for them I have already offered to assist with moderation

Mods have lives outside of SRC. They’ll reply when they have time. Don’t forget they do it for free so you can’t expect them to be at your beck and call

The mods are quick enough to lay down the law in what they deem to be OK and not ok but can't answer a simple question, btw I'm only supporting this because people want it added I dint want to run it myself.

How dare the mods ignore the community they are supposed to be serving and only chime in with an aggressive stance on the matter it's toxic behaviour whether intentional or not I'm.not saying they are bad people but all.it does it cause outrage and people to get impatient when they pick and choose when they want to deal with something.

England

What have they said that could possibly be taken as aggressive? A question was asked, a response was given. Mods do this off their own backs so why should they have to drop everything and reply?

A question was asked and a response was not given. The aggressiveness comes from giving answers that say this is the way and it is not changing without giving adequate reason as to why. I appreciate mods do this off their own backs they obviously can reply as proven by them replying in the first place

I can't believe that resident evil has like 3 billion version categories and people are still asking for more. There are so many options to run these games for a European player and still be on the leaderboard, PAL is not only broken but also just not needed. You are free to make your own leaderboard, this website is not the law.
