After months of work from Timba, Claire, and myself, we are proud to present the unofficial category extensions for Super Mario Galaxy.

The board currently features categories such as Cometless, All Purple Coins, All Main Stars, and quite a few more.

The rules for the categories, the leaderboards showing the runs, how to submit your runs, and how to contact Timba, Claire, or me, are all on this document:

If you have ideas for other categories, don't hesitate to post it in this forum thread or in the discord. We ask that at least one run of the proposed category has been completed before asking for it to be created.

I think we could also add a low% category where you collect as little powerups as possible (idk if you can beat the game without them but I think you can) the only problem with this would be that you're basicly forcing people to do hh1 skip but I still think it's a good idea

i don't really think forcing people do to hh1 skip is a bad idea, it would be like minimum captures in smo where you need to do an even more difficult trick and it's at the very end of the run as well, so considering this one is in honeyhive it shouldn't be too crazy of an issue.

yea that's what I meant at the end of the post and I also think adding damageless ldb's would be a cool idea aswell for both any% and 120

my idea for a new extension category would be unlock all domes where, well, you unlock all the domes, timer would end on you grabbing the grand star at the end of engine room bowser jr, i think it's 46 stars in total

that's almost literally any% up until gold leaf 1 and then do bowser jr.3 tho

All Main Stars is not adequately defined. When Breadghost and I ran that category, we collected stars 1-3 in the 15 main galaxies. I can’t tell if the rules as written would require getting the single star galaxies in each dome (such as Loopdeeloop or Buoy Base).

Yes. Those are one of the 120 stars.

This is great! Would it be possible to do a minimal spin like people did with smo? It would be a fairly interesting run to watch and to compete in.

Freezeflame 2, Beach Bowl S, Beach Bowl P, Honeyhive 3, Ghostly 1, Freezeflame P, Gold Leaf 2, Gold Leaf 3, Gold Leaf P, Gold Leaf C, Toy Time 3, Sea Slide P, and Matter Splatter are all known to be possible, although Sea Slide P is TAS only and it, Honeyhive 3, and Matter Splatter require 2P.
