Hey RE1 community. I run Jill any% with major glitches on console and was wondering if someone could help me with an issue I've noticed with my load times. Until a couple months ago I had the world record in this category. I ran it on the US, dual shock directors cut version which I am aware is not the fastest version of the game, so I completely understood when my time was beaten on a Japanese console. However, I bought an NTSC-J PS2 as well as the Japanese directors cut version of the game and I am noticing that the load times for all doors and stairs are slower on my version of the game than on the version that has the world record. I am not trying to accuse anyone of anything, but I am just wondering if there may be some way to overclock my PS2 or if maybe I am still playing on a slow version of the game. To demonstrate my point, I have made a youtube video where I compare the runs. I have linked the video below. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate any and all feedback! Thanks!
NTSC-J PS2 + Directors Cut is what you want but it all depends on the SCPH of your console. You can find the SCPH number on the bottom of the console. I forget which is best for this game, it's either SCPH 77k or 90k, welcome to the shit show that is playstation speedrunning! Where you need very specific models for certain games.
Thank you for your response StevenMayte! I didn't know about that, but that will definitely help me out. It looks like mine is an SCPH-70000, so I'm guessing the 90K is the faster one? Sigh looks like I need to get a 3rd Japanese console just to get the WR back lol. It's all good though, I know with my execution I can definitely get it back if we're on a level playing field!
Albirex uses an SCPH 90000 model for his RE2 runs so it's safe to assume he uses it for this game too, they aren't the easiest to track down at a good price though.
Just ordered one for $118 US, which was a little steep but won't break the bank. Thanks again for all your help Steven! Now... what to do with this SCPH 70000? Do you think there actually are other games out there that run better on that version?
Bawk's Jill NMG Any% run, which is probably the best run on the Playstation board, was done on a 77000 or 79000 iirc.
Ahh ok, thanks for the heads up Liv. I was comparing Albirex's run to Bawks and it looks like their hardware runs at about the same speed. Well shit, looks like I'll have a full collection of NTSC-J PS2's by the end of this.
It has come to our attention that the current version of Duckstation (v0.1-7675) runs considerably slower than earlier versions. Until we figure out what can be done to either get the current version up to speed with the other times on the board we suggest that runners use v0.1-7294, which can be fo
