I use joy-cons right now and they work just fine, but I've heard great things about the pro controller and I might switch to that. Which one would inprove my gameplay?
I use joy-cons. I think it somewhat depends on what category you're doing. I think that the joy-cons are better in general because they are better for Odyssey in general (motion control stuff). Also, if you are already using joy-cons then it would probably be better to stick to them.
joy cons save maybe only a few seconds in a run but if you like the pro con better I'd use that
I used joycons for ages and they worked fine. I have recently switched to pro controller however and definitely prefer it. But it all comes down to preference imo.
I think it is the same thing, but with the joy-cons you can do downthrows with motion controls, which the pro cons can't do. Keep in mind that joy-cons can have joy-con drift.
Real speedrunners use gamecube controller
The reason I switched from joycons to procon was based on comfort, controller preference, and the reoccuring issue of joycon drift. However, if the latter is not a major issue for you, then sticking with joycons is completely reasonable, and you won't see any improvement if you switch, really.
i honestly suggest go for it, pro controller worked for me when i played casually so go for it
I used to run on pro controller, but that's just because I didn't like disconnected joy cons. When I got the joy con grip though, I switched back from pro controller because I just like the feel. Pro controller isn't necessarily better, but some people have bigger hands that work better with the larger buttons. It is entirely preference.
Most top runners use Procon, but there are a few people who choose to use Joycons, like Fir_ and heytherecool. Joycons actually are objectively better: they can perform downthrows(without needing to groundpound), so there are more movement options. However, there are few places that downthrows are useful, so people usually go with what they favor more. Another thing to consider is using both, as you can pair both controllers to the first player. For example, in lake, a downthrow is used in Nicroveda's 59:59 when he switches to joycons mid-run, but uses Procon for the rest of the run. It's really up to you, the size of your hands, and if you want to spend $50 (USD) on a controller.
to be honest its all just up to personal preference, ive heard people say joycons are better and procons are better
