Regarding tools/macros/etc

I'm new to the whole speedrunning thing, so... Are you guys ok with some kind of tool-assisted category here, or should I go for tasvideos.org instead?

Also, how do you guys plan on verifying if a run is tool-assisted or not for this game?

Hey there, I am cool with a tool-assisted category. I am really looking forward to seeing it actually :)

As far as how to verify if it's tool assisted or not I'm not quite sure and open to suggestions. I recognize that my game is fairly easy to make a macro for since every level is the same every time you play it and the movements are only up, down, left, right. I suppose if the gameplay looked inhumanly consistent and at the max speed it would raise a red flag.

PackSciences might have input on this as he has more experience with speedrunning.

It can be set as a miscancellous variable I guess. Miscancellous because it's not very legit. Do you have runs to show ?

Note : By experience, I can tell you that your run is going to be denied on tasvideos.org

@PackSciences [1] I'm on level 69 now. Will try to finish a proper run ASAP. Although, I feel tool-assisted runs in this case should probably consider just the sum of IGTs. [2] I had such feeling, but as I've not been much into speedrunning before, can you elaborate on that "imminent denial"?

"Although, I feel tool-assisted runs in this case should probably consider just the sum of IGTs. " Of course why wouldn't it be ? The term 'tool-assisted runs' is a very reserved term. I recommend you to use the word 'macro-assisted' or 'scripted'. TAS is reserved for speedruns that emulate the computer behavior (even when not necessary) or makes so that the technology used fills some precised things.

What I said is that of course macro-assisted runs can't be in the same category as legit runs, so I propose to hide a variable so that the legit run show directly, but if you click on the options of the leaderboard, the macro-assisted can appear. This way, people can see legit runs directly, but can see macro-assisted too if they want to know deeper about it.

I understood when you said about putting it into Miscellaneous. I agree 100%. Thanks for clarifying the "TAS" aspect. I'll watch more carefully how I label things. :)

Back to the topic, I'm curious: is there a recommended/usual way you guys use to verify if a run used macros or not?

Knowledge of the game physics. It's usually obvious.

I know I don't belong here (especially since the last reply was 7 years ago), but yeah, I'm cool with TAS runs, as long as it's in the miscellaneous category. Since TAS is open, moderation will be stricter.

For Roku, any background noise or weird lighting (as long as it doesn't cover the level or time) can make it hard to TAS. Xbox and Playstation are harder, but certainly doable to check for TAS. PC will be a nightmare to check, so I'm open to adding people as verifiers who are good at spotting TASed runs.
