You need to look at the back of the cartridge for 2 numbers. If they are alone, it is a 1.0 cart. If they have an A or a B next to them, it is a 1.1 and 1.2 cart respectively.

If the punch code is only 2 numbers, it's a 1.0 cart

Each version has different quirks/glitches. However, if you want to speedrun the game you're going to want to play on the Japanese version, due to the much faster text speed. I'd recommend joining the discord if you want any help getting started, we'd be happy to help you out!

Just to have a more clear answer in case others click on this thread in the future, 1.0 is the version you want 99% of the time IF you plan on playing on N64. However some routes and tricks are only possible on wii VC, and the only allowed version on wii VC is 1.2. So if theres a specific category you had in mind to run I'd check to see what version is optimal for it, or be okay with never being able to do the fastest route.

Classic Kakariko Route and Nocturne RTA added!

Two new categories are here after being promoted from the extensions leaderboard.

Classic Kakariko Route: This is the old Any% route from pre-2015 that can be found under the Defeat Ganon tab. It features traditional gameplay many are familiar with and is great to start out with as a new runner
