Signs of a cheater

Hello moderators! Everyone, your runs need to be removed! You've all cheated! This board should be taken off the site! Kappa

Seriously though I'm here to ask you a question. I heard the moderators for this game are infamous for their expertise in spotting details that reveal a cheated run. So I'm here to ask. How do you spot an invalid run? What programs do you use, what are some signs of cheating, and so on and so on. Just any advice you have to offer really.

I moderate over 90 games or 10 series. I recently realized how big a job that is and so I'm now trying to get better at it.

One last note skater congrats on your recent any% WR! Insanely impressive can't wait to watch it! ^_^

Im no mod, BUT, i know splices can be detected with audio/video softwares, there can be some tiny sound cuts where the segments are stitch together, frame inconsistencies like in the famous cheated run of Super Meat Boy, menuing inconsistencies can be detected in games like OoT, missbehaving save files like in EilaMario's Green stars run, cut scene inconsistencies like in Frigate cheated speedruns (the weapon james uses in the cutscene depends of the gun you where using at the end of the run) etc, etc, good players could also detec TAS-like play that is not humanly viable, hope someone can give a better explanation than mine, lol

One way is to check the audio waves like this https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/304724247450877953/414607931712077824/splicing.PNG Other than that there's alot of tiny things that are hard to explain. The Apollo (cheated) run is a good example. His loading times we're questionable and so was the frame rate + the background noise being really weird. We rejected the first submission he did and accepted the 2nd one. Our plan was to wait for a few days and see if he would post any improvements since he talked with a mod about doing that. But he didn't so by the time we wanted to remove the run, it was already gone.

The other small stuff I was talking about are stuff like the cursor and menu (like in TSA's splicing).

Muted Audio on Twitch Highlights

Recently, many longer runs submitted as Twitch highlights have had parts of their audio muted due to Twitch's automatic copyright detection, the most frequent case being long sections of Lost Woods music. Some vods will even give a network error at these parts which can cause several minutes of foot
