PC runs MUST use the load remover at minimum for time without loads. Console runs are timed using the RTA timing method. All runs done without the load remover will be timed RTA.
With that out of the way, lets actually get to the set up process. First of all you must download the app Livesplit onto your computer you can do so here.
Once you download it, open up Livesplit. Once it is opened, right click on Livesplit and hover over "Compare Against" and select "Game Time"
Next, right click on Livesplit and press "Edit Splits..."
In the game name section type "Outlast 2". Run category does not need to be filled in but you should fill it in anyway. Type in the category you are running here (Any%, 100%, ect.)
Click "Activate" (At this point, the load remover will have activated and if you don't care about the automatic splits you can ignore the rest of this) and then click "Settings". You will see 3 checkboxes at the very top, Start, Split, and Reset. Reset will be blurred out since this autosplitter does not have a reset function. Check start if you would like Livesplit to automatically start (NOTE: Autostart doesn't work on insane)
Under that there should be a bunch of checkboxes. Basically, if the checkbox is checked, it will split once you pass that specific checkpoint. If it is unchecked it will not split at that checkpoint. Feel free to customize however you would like.
If you want Livesplit to automatically start after the loading screen ends when you wake up from the crash, check "Start". If you want it to split where you have it customized, check split
If the above did not work, and you made sure you followed everything correctly run Livesplit in admin, if it still doesn't work run both Outlast 2 and Livesplit in admin (You may need to run your recording software in admin if its not picking up the game).
If you have any questions you should ask in the Outlast speedrunning Discord under the questions channel, we would be happy to help!
There's now a variable for you too select when submitting to the 100% category. You have to put what version of the game you're playing. It's faster to do 100% on the May 10th 2017 patch instead of the current version of Outlast 2.
The autosplitter works on all patches, and if you don't know ho
