In day 1 you only need 5 happiness so because you still have 3 food on day 2, this is needed to save time.

Place 1 seed, water all plants

1+4=5 (crazy right?) So you get free seeds for day 2 and this just barely gives you enough happiness to get 10 happiness without the ball on day 2 on free version (not a demo, you can beat the game, just not with all of the fun stuff)
