[Outdated] Marc Ecko's Setting Up

[big]**__Introduction__**[/big]

This is a guide on how to set the game in order to have the most pleasant experience when speedrunning it.
According to http://www.generalarcade.com/ MEGU was ported to Steam without any access to the source code. 

For what it is it the port is not bad and has different resolution options, but in general there are a lot of things wrong with the 
game – crashes happen often, camera control is extremely wonky, and mouse sensitivity is abysmal to name a few.
After the changes in this guide your game will be a lot more stable and enjoyable to play, so let's begin!


[big]**__Video Settings__**[/big]

**General**
You want to run the game in windowed mode, with 4:3 aspect ratio (1024x768 resolution).

1. Windowed mode makes alt-tabbing and managing windows easier.
2. The 4:3 aspect ratio is just an OBS tip for recording your runs with these measurements: 480x1080px for the splits, and 1440x1080px for the game.
3. Resolution should be 1024x768, because in bigger resolutions you lose the spray can level and weapon durability HUD element.

**DxWnd**
1. Download DxWnd from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/
2. Unzip DxWnd and start it
3. Right click on the white canvas and select "Add"
4. Select your game directory (it should be the same for "Path" and "Launch")
5. Select these settings:

6. Click OK and go to File -> Save 
7. Go to your game directory and in the "engine" folder open up "default_pc"

9. Save it and go back to DxWnd

[big]**__Gameplay Settings__**[/big]

**General**
Most of the older games tend to behave differently according to their fps. For example if you play GTA: SA without the frame limiter (which caps the game at 25fps) you get very clunky physics. The same applies to MEGU if you play the game with a 30fps limit. 

In 30fps the game is generally faster and you can get boosts from jumps if you hit the jump button again on the last few frames of Trane's animation before he lands from his previous jump. Trane keeps getting momentum and every other jump has an increased chance to give you the same boost. Here's an [example](https://streamable.com/hinb9).

As of November 2017 we have found ways to skip large parts of the game with a glitch that requires you to run the game in 30fps, so if you want to have competitive times you should limit your fps to 30.


**Configuration**
There are a lot of settings that you can change/tweak in the file named "vars_pc" which is also in the "engine" folder.
I will only list my configuration and the settings I've changed, but you can play around with all the other settings as well.

__fpsLimit=30__
This value is for setting your fps limit.

__mousespeed=0.300000__
If you play in 60fps the value should be around 0.15 to 0.20 for easier camera control (this depends on your mouse of course, but the default 0.5 mouse sensitivity is really hard to control). If you play in 30fps the value should be x2 (0.15 -> 0.30).

**__THINGS YOU CAN'T CHANGE__**
__deathtime=4.000000__
This affects your death time so you can't make it 1 second and save 3 seconds each time you die.
__difficultyLevel=2__
This affects enemy difficulty so you can't make it 0 and complete the game without fighting anyone.


[big]**__Unresolved Issues__**[/big]

**Crashing**
The game tends to crash due to bad memory handling so don't get discouraged if you lose a good run. For me crashes happen after Light's Out Cinematic (Level 4 Chapter 3) and after Subway Platform Cinematic (Level 9 Chapter 3), so I just restart the game before those missions to clear the memory. DxWnd helps bring random crashes to a minimum so you should only get a crash at the levels mentioned above.

On that note if you're a beginner I advise you to play with autosave on from the beginning until you're good enough to only turn it on when needed. It's worth playing through the game a few times to figure out if you have different crashing patterns than mine, so you know when you should turn autosave on and in turn restart your game.

If you want to speedrun MEGU I highly recommend using this guide, because playing the game this way makes it the most stable it could be. If I find anything new I will be sure to update this guide.

Controller Mapping Guide

[big][big]**Introduction**[/big][/big]
**Getting Up** recognizes very few controllers automatically, if you have a controller that it won't get recognized by the game then this guide will aid you to add support for your controller in order to work with the game.

The file you need to edit is in this location:

[small]*%Getting_Up_Installion%*[/small] = the location of your game installed.
The default is at [small]*"C:\Program Files (x86)\Atari\Marc Ecko's Getting Up - Contents Under Pressure"*[/small].

The files contents are splitted into 3 sections:

* **1. Keyboard input binding**
* **2. Controller input binding**
* **3. Input description**

[big][big]**1. Keyboard input binding**[/big][/big]
The first section begins at the start of the file with the comment lines:

You can change the input here if you want some better alternative for keyboard input, but it's probably unnecessary.

[big][big]**2. Controller input binding**[/big][/big]
The second section is splitted into many parts for each controller configuration. Each part is for each controller configuration.
You can change the mapping of the first one:

Each line is having something like this:

__Explanation:__[quote]**addbind:** There is **setbind** and **addbind**, the 1st one sets the bind for first time and 2nd is used in binding the same command into multiple inputs. Because we use the inputstream 0 we have already set the binds for the first time at the keyboard binding section, so we use addbind to add the controller's input too.
**0:** Which inputstream to use, not sure what it actually affects, leave it unaltered.
**COMMAND_FORWARD:** Here goes which game's input to bind with the controller (**COMMAND_FORWARD** binds the player's forward input).
**CONTROLLER:** Here is what type of input it should receive, it can receive **KEYBOARD**, **MOUSE**, and **CONTROLLER**.
**0:** Which controller to bind, on this case the first one.
**AXIS_Y:** Which button to bind from the controller, on this case it's the Y Axis of the controller or the "up-down" axis from the joystick.
**0 1:** When using axis to bind input you need to specify which is the range of the axis's is bound to the command.
**#-- MOVEMENT 	-- LA:** Anything following a **#** symbol is a comment, and it doesn't affect the configuration. You can edit it, remove it, it doesn't matter.[/quote]

This section is optional. It describes which the controller's inputs are.

Version Differences

-PS2-

	Graff Clips can’t clip through walls in one motion. So, take Yard Entrance as an example, when Graff Clipping Trane will be stuck in the ground and will not have clipped past the wall. From here you can crouch under the wall. Vanr Chill Space wall cannot be clipped, trying to clipped will cause Trane to fall under the map (softlock). Port Authority wall cannot be clipped, Trane will never clip the wall/floor.

-XBOX-

	Zip Floor Clips like the one used in Lumen Square Station are nearly impossible. Timing is different due to Trane having different physics while walking on beams (most likely fps, menus look like 60fps or at least something above 30, bhops are harder too). If you wait till Trane is fully crouched like PC Trane will snap to a hanging position grabbing the beam. So, you have to release inputs mid crouch, but this seems to be RNG if Trane glitches to the floor and more often Trane will not clip, but instead float above the floor. There is also a Soft Lock if the inputs are done too fast and first person camera glitch is more common.
 
	Zip Speeds both Quick Setup and Right Angled Setups have random chances of higher speeds. 

	Subway Tunnels Crouch Clip is unable to be performed due to higher fps and snapping to wall.

-Emulator PS2-

	Emu has none of the PS2 limitations and behaves like PC.

	Small difference in Storefront Row, Trane will not grab the first ledge after using intuition to skip the invisible box on the pipe, requiring you to climb to the second ledge.

	Port Authority Graff Clip is more prone to not clipping. 

-PC-

	It crashes… A clean continuous run will almost always crash on Lights Out and Subway Platform after the cutscene has ended.
