LarryBoy's Temptation
Chocolate river skip
Right off the bat, you can quickly cross the chocolate river by using the candy-cane jump. To perform it, you jump onto a candy cane. If you land on it in the right way, you can quickly double-jump before it falls over, and glide over the chocolate river. This won't work as well for every cane. From the left, the first, second, and last canes are the best.
Mushroom skip
You can skip the triple mushroom section with a quick jump, a candy cane jump, or a precise jump onto the last mushroom:
Platform skip
Next, when you come to the moving platform, you can jump onto the platform ahead using a superbounce: Thanks to Tempystral for finding this one.
There's nothing special left to do in this level. The final "boss" is RNG-based, and lower numbers will give you a better time, which is worth considering. 4 is the lowest number called, and she doesn't call the same number twice in a row, so 4-5-4-5-4 is the best possible combination. Note, 4 is always the first number called as a demonstration.
Mayor Blueberry's temptation
When you climb up the stairs, you're greeted with the first temptation thrower (yes, that's what they're called; I read the manual). Don't kill him; it uses up a lot of time whenever you destroy a temptation thrower, so don't destroy them if you don't have to.
From here, you can either go to the right or the left wing of the mansion. It doesn't matter which one you do first, except that you can pick up health at the start of the left wing (before the elevator), so it's better to go to the right first and use that health to recover.
Right side:
First, the books. You can go to the right when you first enter the library, avoid the thrower (though I usually kill him anyway), and pull the first book. After that book's pulled, you can jump on top of it and glide to the platform on the other side (thanks to @Patrick_Barrett for pointing this out). After pulling the book there, hold right and mash X; you should double-jump and land on the floor underneath you during the cutscene (you continue to fall during these in-engine cutscenes). Around the corner is the third book:
After the elevator, we can skip the whole next room. After leaving the elevator, turn right, jump on the crate of jewels, then onto the refill station, then on top of the doorway, and then glide to the platform ahead:
When you come to the coal-burning thing that keeps the door locked somehow, you can spray it, then quickly glide. Just as with falling, if you are gliding when an in-engine cutscene starts, then you will continue to glide during the cutscene: If your glide is angled well enough, you can land inside the elevator. This will mess with the camera angle, but it's fine.
Left side:
When you come upon the dining room, there are two grunts and two seekers; you have to suck the seekers into the record player (which makes sense somehow), but you can ignore one or both grunts, depending on their position. Spray the column, then weigh them down in this order: middle, one side, then the other. You only have to weigh them down momentarily, and you can double-jump & cutscene-glide while the organ moves. There is health in the second-to-last box here, if you need it. Nothing major.
You can then skip the first half of the next room. On the left, jump onto a crate or barrel, then onto the gem in the wall, then onto the platform ahead. You can then walk to the back of this area, jump onto the weird boiler thing, then jump onto the barrier without having to activate the vents:
Cutscene skip
Once you get to the boss (avoiding the thrower there once again), there is a way to skip a cutscene at the end, but only if the final mirror is on the end opposite of the entrance (the order of the mirrors is RNG-based). To do it, spray the last mirror from the second platform back (see video). Once you crack the mirror (use the audio cue), immediately double-jump and glide backwards, land in front of the now-open exit ASAP, and mash △. If done fast enough, you'll skip the cutscene after the boss: Saves 45 seconds.
Quick grapple
After that, you'll learn to grapple in the Larry Cave. To speed things up a tad, when the camera zooms onto the grapple target, mash L2 and Larryboy will grapple onto it as the camera zooms away from it: Turns out, you don't have to be on top of the LarryMobile. Nothing major.
Petunia's Temptation
Master Control Skip
You can skip the master control switch by getting a superbounce on it, saving 4:30+. This is the biggest skip in the game, found by Patrick; here's his tutorial:
If you're having trouble, you might like my setup:
Boss platform jump
During the fight with the Bad Apple, you can jump onto the boss's platform, which is useful (only) for saving time between the different levels: Saves ~5 seconds each jump. Can't be done during the first transition due to the cutscene, but you can do it for the last 2 transitions. Quite frankly, this strat isn't worth the risk, but it's there.
Fire Marshal Grape's Temptation
In the windy hallway, you can hug the right wall to avoid using the weight ability:
Volcano Skip
You can skip activating the volcano at the left-side switch: It's tricky. You need to land straight on a good spot while whirlybirding, and immediately jump on it to gain air. Saves 1:30. I recommend practicing this in an emulator with savestates. Note: you should glide behind the toy dragon, activate the battery, then make your way up to the switch. When done this way, a cutscene for the Temptation Seeker won't activate.
Baker Lunt's Temptation
Lunt's OoB
You can skip a large portion of the beginning of the level by going out-of-bounds and gliding to a checkpoint: about 2:45. It may be tricky to glide into the checkpoint, but it's beyond the temptation seeker whenever it's still, and a bit to the right. You have to be at about the same elevation as the seeker, too. You'll automatically die, and when the game reloads, the level will load in. Thanks to Tempystral for finding the quick setup. Here's another tutorial by Tea:
As of yet, these are all the notable strats. If you're following my splits, I split on the level exits.
This guide will be edited if more strats are found.
To-do:
- add caneless river skip
- add Bad Apple fight routing
Hey guys today our very own Pat found the skip for the Master Control Switch in Petunia's Temptation. This skip saves around 5 minutes if not more. check out the video of it here
