Case for IGT in Plat% and Hundo Categories

If you were to use RTA for runs like Plat%, then you would have absolutely no breaks anywhere in the run. Even a run like DDD 100% which is 22 hours long gets a break somewhere, so it would be easy to just fit in a bathroom break between creating the completed save file and starting up the game again. Just my two cents on the matter. JJ 100% and 100% would be able to get breaks in certain mini-games throughout the run so I don't think it's as big a deal. But this is mainly for Plat Trophy runs since those will probably take a very long time to complete and we should not force someone to sit down for almost 13-20 hours without any breaks

There are runs out there that are 19 hours long and are timed with RTA. Not having time for breaks isn’t a justification for not using RTA - if you need a break in a long RTA run, then just take one for a few minutes, but leave the timer running. Health comes first, so people need to do whatever needs to be done to not harm themselves. It’s an unfortunate side effect of long runs; people used to sleep during AC 100% since it was 70 hours and they left the timer running the whole time.

This is independent of the discussion of IGT (I don’t even know what a Plat run of this game would look like right now), but “no time for a break” is never a reason for not using RTA no matter the circumstances. That’s just speedrunning. If the game has an IGT that can be used and the long run can be done across one file (counting IGT across multiple saves becomes super messy) then thats fine to use. But it can be used because it works, not because it lets you take a break.

Taking breaks is always messy in speedrunning because you’d either have to put time limits on breaks or people could step away for hours. That’s why it’s always been “take breaks as needed”.

Yeah we will never decide to go to IGT or RTA based on people wanting breaks. After all we already have long KH categories that have no breaks (358/2 level 1 / CoM 100% etc etc).

We still need to even see what a plat category would look like before we make any significant rules on it anyway but allowing breaks just for sake of it isn't something I personally am okay with.

Well, regardless of what a Plat Trophy run would be judged on, there's probably a ton of things that happen in the run that would automatically qualify it for RTA timing rather than IGT timing according to the rules for other categories. After doing a run of the category, I realized there are several sections in the game, namely minigames, that offer a small bathroom break. Nothing substantial, but they're there. Thank you for your time nonetheless.
