@FitterSpace absolutely agree - over on Streets Of Rage 4, it will only show if there is an Easy difficulty run, yet the most competitive aspect of the game is the Mania difficulty
If you are enjoying learning GTA V, persevere. Expecting to learn any strat well in less than a week seems like high expectations to me. It takes people months, sometimes years, to really get good at a game.
Start off small and think of it this way - you already know strats for a few of the missions! Fantastic already. Do the rest of the run casually, then try to learn more strats.
If you're not enjoying it - pick literally any game you do enjoy. If it's google snake, cool. Nobody can tell you what is good "for a new speedrunner". It is all down to what you enjoy and what you are willing or able to learn.
That's a lot of overthinking (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) for what is in essence a very small, unmoderated forum.
Whether you are posting a new thread or bumping an old one, as long as you're not a bot I don't see why anyone should feel emotional about it either way.
While we're griping about etiquette, I also really dislike when people just reply to topics with a link to the pinned post. Yes, people should read forums first, but it comes across as rather rude and unwelcoming. Even a copy-pasted "Hi, you should read this thread (link) and also the question you have asked is better suited to your game's own forum than here" is infinitely better than just pasting a link and saying nothing.
I mean, this was already suggested - https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/7wd1c
Hello :) welcome to the party! These forums aren't very active but we always welcome new members. What games are you running?
No pressure - just play your game, and if you try to keep improving, you are a speedrunner no matter if you're 1st or 1,000th place!
Good luck with your goals and have fun :) these general forums aren't very active but if you search for specific games then you will find their own forums / Discords etc which will be a lot more active.
It's an old form of forum etiquette*. It was really more of an issue when forum were busy (like, SUPER busy) - bumping old topics would clog up the forums and make newer threads harder to see; also a lot of forums kept track of your post count as sort of a "score" so it was seen as a spammy way to raise your profile/score.
Really on a forum this small and inactive it is not an issue whatsoever. Some members like to reply to every single instance pointing out that someone necroed the thread. Personally I find that far more obnoxious than the original necro.
So long as you have a point to make, I personally would rather see a thread get bumped than a new one start. We don't really have forum mods though. So if someone gets pissy at you, just ignore them is my advice.
- I'm talking old like.... late 90s/early 00s, in the actual heyday of forums. It's really not an issue in 2021.
There's nothing in the rules about glitches, so I guess you would be asking them to make a Glitchless category to go alongside true Any% and 100%
You'd be best posting in their specific forum / Discord / PMing the mods.
When you click on "Submit a run" on Streets Of Rage 4 or Left 4 Dead it has the option to add in the names. I would suggest asking the mod(s) of those communities directly if you don't get an answer here shortly. :)
Might I interest you in Streets Of Rage 4?
17 characters; 5 difficulties; The "full arcade" run will take you anywhere between 35 minutes to 1:35
However, we have implemented Individual Level leaderboards now, so you could practice one level at anything from 3 to 13 minutes in length
Additionally, there is a "Boss Rush" mode which lasts anywhere from 6 to 20 minutes
So, plenty of variety all in one game, and we use IN GAME TIME which is very, very useful for a PS4 player
Hello,
There is a site Feedback thread: https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/g79jt/95 And also a Feedback form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6G5kHeooo1K11C8WMREf69P_Pv3X4i5DKOjLtUCcDSTreNQ/viewform
Ah I missed that
In that case, why not just set up Livesplit to have the splits up to that point then call the last split "Good/Bad Ending"?
Sounds a bit like the ending of Deus Ex to me (not spoiling anything here).
I had a run rejected for the same reason when submitting 2 at the same time. I would speak to the mod if you really want it added to your account. Personally, I'm not that bothered, it was just that the other one was my first completed run, so I just accepted the rejection as it is on my Youtube account anyway.
