Sounds like you two need to have a private discussion
I would say an electric toothbrush is the same as using a 3rd party controller or emulator. Yes, purists would prefer you use the original hardware, but times are constantly changing and if it is something that will reduce physical strain on runners then I think it needs to be supported. It is up to you if you want to use the retro brushes, but in my opinion, we shouldn't be forcing people to do so in 2021
Try logging out, clearing cache/cookies, logging back in
If that doesn't work, try another browser?
Why does the generic text:
"Note: newly submitted or approved runs may take a few minutes to appear. Thanks for your patience!"
Appear on every leaderboard? Can be quite misleading as it can take weeks for runs to be approved. Just seems a daft statement to me.
Welcome, what kind of games will you be running?
@Matse007 the forums in general need a massive overhaul. Reply notifications, better categories, moderation/clean-up, etc.
Yeah IL boards are a mess. Take a look at Streets Of Rage 4, it is isn't very intuitive that there are runs there in different difficulties etc.
To kind of add on to that, and to really spell out what is most important about this:
"Splits" are like Timmiluvs says, are really just a visual indicator to you/your audience of how well you are doing. They are entertainment only, essentially.
If you have recorded a run that you want to submit to the leaderboards, it is good form to "retime" the run before submitting it. This could be simply running the video back and using Livesplit to ensure you split at the correct start/finish point, or you could use a 'frame counter' program. For instance, when I submit card game runs (that are timed to the precise frame) I like to load my video in Adobe Premiere Pro, cut it to the precise start and end frame, and use the timecode in Premiere to ensure I have the correct frame, and convert it into milliseconds.
[There are definitely easier ways to do this, I just stick to what I know]
FURTHERMORE, if you get to the stage where your run is in world record contention, on a board where milliseconds and frames really matter (such as SMB1), then the verification team will likely re-time your run as well, to ensure accuracy.
So all this is to say - don't worry about your splits during the run, they are just for entertainment. Retime any particular runs of importance after the fact and prior to submitting to the leaderboards.
Guys, technically as the timer doesn't start until you begin brushing, I set up a save file which already had a brush/floss/mouthwash regime stored, touched my tooth with the brush and instantly got the record.
I think we need to start discussing new categories such as NG+, Max% and any%(filling-less).
Streets Of Rage 4
You can play on any platform you like
There are 17 characters to choose from
Full "Arcade" runs take around an hour and have five difficulties
Boss Rush takes between 7 to 20 minutes
And there are now Individual Level leaderboards, so if you REALLY don't have a lot of time to dedicate, these take between 2 to 12 minutes and maybe a half hour of practice would be enough to get good times
RNG exists but isn't "run breaking" in the most part as you can use your movement and skillset to deal with the RNG so it seems to fit what you are looking for
A very versatile game, providing you like those kind of side-scrolling fighting type games. There is also a combo system and people enjoy score attack too, although that isn't recognised in our SR.C boards.
Long story short - 17 characters and over 1,000 categories that will take you anywhere from 2 minutes to 90 minutes to complete runs, depending on what you want to do, movement based and not RNG heavy. Ticks all the boxes.
Yeah the run is jank as all heck, but it was also 6 years ago - perhaps the verifier watched the live stream or verified it in some other manner that we can't see from the video? Regardless, nothing we can do about it in this topic.
Even if they were not older PBs, the prevalent thought seems to be that obsoleted runs may still contain interesting tech/strats that others may wish to look at for posterity.
I don't have a true opinion on it myself; just repeated what I've heard for consideration.
Plus if it's not a notable run, doesn't the guidelines state that the verification process can be minimal? I would probably question the user directly as to why they are submitting so many obsoleted runs, but ultimately err on the side of verifying if it won't take too much of your time.
Can we have some more forum mods please?
Topics like this exist..... https://www.speedrun.com/speedrunning/thread/gp3kk
There are also SO MANY threads every day where the OP gets deleted (either a bot or ban) and we're left with these weird floating answers to "nothing" https://www.speedrun.com/speedrunning/thread/73q3a
It would take two minutes a day to clean up these forums if we actually had an active mod team.....
Hi, speak to the mods of that particular game if you think there is an issue. There are 6 of them listed on that page. I would start with nes who verified the run. Nobody in this forum can help with your request.
Combating toxicity with toxicity is never a good idea. Would be more worthwhile to do something positive or productive with your day. Don't let toxic people turn you toxic also.
I feel like I've always inclined towards speedrunning, I used to play SMW as fast as possible to show off to friends irl, I'd always be trying to complete RPGs as quickly as possible etc.
I'm not sure what the first proper speedrun video I watched was. Probably one of the really old school Quake videos or a SMB1 world record, but I didn't really get 'hooked' until I saw my first GDQ video which was probably one of the Super Metroid races. The whole "save/kill" the animals donation dynamic really added a lot to it for me.
Since then, I went back and rewatched all the GDQs from the start, then any other marathon I could find (ESA, Calithon, Games Done Adequately, even the "speedrun" marathons featuring like 11 hour RPGs). Once I exhausted that I began watching the speedrun race tournaments - Donkey Kong Country, Super Metroid, anything I could find.
Then finally, when the quarantine hit, Streets Of Rage 4 was released and I was really enjoying playing the game. I had been following Barb for SMW content and saw him run the game as Floyd before I ever played it, and when I played it; knowing I had a lot of free time; knowing that at least one speedrunner I knew ran the game; I began actually speedrunning the game, and here we are now.
So.... long story short if I hadn't enjoyed "speedrunning" SMW irl before I even knew speedrunning was a thing, I probably would have never followed Barb and probably never have begun myself.
