Hi,
I suck at speedrunning
I suck at making videos
I suck at telling jokes
So, why not combine all three lol?
Enjoy
Excellent thank you :D glad I'm not alone. I loaded it up last night for a warm-up and played Tiny Puyo until I'd cleared 4,000 then quit, feel like I haven't lost my touch there. I'm definitely not a GREAT Tetris player - I can react well but learning the theory hasn't really clicked with me - but feel I can definitely excel with the Puyo side of things.
Going to look at the categories then probably have a long stream on Twitch at some point this week, see how that goes. I'm guessing the best way to start is just load up 1-1 and try to get to the end of 7-10 huh? That is, Adventure mode?
Hey,
I loved this game when I played it like 18 months ago
Decided to buy it again today and will be looking into speedrunning it - is there any tips for a brand new newbie you wish someone had told you before you loaded up the game?
Thanks!
EDIT: PS4 for clarity
Hi all,
So short bio to get to know me :)
I have been an avid speedrunner since before I knew what speedrunning was. From my early childhood playing SNES games quicker than my friends, trying to find exploits and bugs while they were happy just getting to the next level, I've just always played games that way.
When I discovered GDQ around 6 years ago I have scoured Youtube to find as many speedrunning events as possible, dreamed about what games I could feasibly attempt and get decent times in, but knew I would become obsessed so never picked anything up - I don't have 300,000 hours to beat SMB by one frame, for instance, but I always thought about picking up some more obscure titles I enjoy like Freestyle Scooter, Kirby's Fun*Pak, Alundra, etc. But then figuring out the equipment to capture older technology, I never made that jump either.
Enter SOR4.
Retro style game. That I fell in love with. I have no job for a few months so have time to practice. And I can easily stream my PS4 to Twitch and submit runs. Happy days.
So here I am, a guy who can't get under an hour on Easy and can't complete a run on Hardest mode LOL but I have some runs on the leaderboard, made affiliate on Twitch, got about a dozen regular viewers on my Youtube and most importantly, I'm having a lot of fun with it :D
So...... hey, I guess! Speedrunning is fun and I'm glad I'm finally getting involved after all these years.
Think I'm watching you update the Shiva rankings just now lol was in the sheet and it went all crazy with editing.
Anyway I'd like to submit a Stage 3 for Shiva on Hardest please. 3:12.
Yeah the Blaze Air Special seems to be the fastest technically, but putting it into practice is a whole other kettle of fish
It's also a relatively small community it seems, with most people still happy to just grind away on Arcade.
I'd love to see some kind of 100% category, deathless and IL leaderboards integrated properly... but there's still a ton of categories with only one or two runs as it is.
So Adam has his dash and Cherry has her run.
But what is the best movement for each of the other characters?
Has anyone actually worked out the pixels per second for say SOR1 Axel walking vs jumping vs jump-kicking etc?
I was starting to work it out but wasn't sure I was doing it correctly, plus I see some movements might get patched soon.
So general discussion - what would you say is the best way to move for each of the characters?
Cool no worries :D just thought I'd try and make things a bit easier for you
Well unfortunately I've ruined that cool stage 3 sequence by getting a new PB. Have submitted that run, and a SOR4 Blaze run too, both are on my YouTube channel while they are being submitted. I've worked out the times for your convenience:
SOR2 Blaze
Stage 1 new pb of 5:44 2 = 5:43 3 = 3:54 5 = 6:08 9 = 5:32 10 = 6:28 11 = 6:42 12 = 10:22
Unfortunately 4, 6, 7 and 8 were all slower, or maybe fortunately as the 4&8 times me and Goombie share remain in place haha
Blaze SOR4 times:
1 = 5:19 2 = 5:31 3 = 3:21 4 = 4:46 5 = 5:29 6 = 7:21 7 = 3:16 8 = 4:19 9 = 4:47 10 = 5:39 11 = 5:55 12 = 9:06
Both are Easy difficulty btw
I didn't notice what had even happened at the time, just wondered how I had ended up in the fight haha I tried to just grab the star and get killed to escape quickly as I've got zero practice in that fight and the one time I wanted to die he just refused to kill me quickly so... RIP run lol
What can you do!
The SOR2 Blaze is fun reading between me and Goombie
Identical 4 and 8
Goombie more than a minute faster on 12 but I'm more than a minute faster on 6
Then finally the stage 3 split of 4:00 Sonic's 4:01 and 4:02 just looks hilarious to me.
Great work again, love looking at this.
I know there is no desire to add a 100% mode (yet....) however for anyone who would want to run it even for fun I'm wondering what would be included?
The retro arcade cabinet boss fights for a start Collecting every Star
Would we also include collecting every item? Hitting every object (ie bins etc) even if it's empty?
For me, all of the above would be mandatory in a 100%, but one thing I was wondering was whether I'd include using every weapon too, which then gets split further into is it just every item within an object or things like Murphy's batons. And also, use each item once, or until destroyed.
Just stuff I was thinking about, not pushing to make it a category but was wondering if anyone else had been thinking these things, or just me lol
Just be aware on Stage 5, before the Barbon fight, one of the Galsia's can pretty easily pick up the taser and activate the arcade cabinet for you:
This then takes you into the retro fight whether you want to or not. Since noticing this, I try to make sure I take out the cabinet in my routing before he gets a chance to.
Hi,
I've noticed in a few runs that people use the Star moves outwith the end of Stage bosses.
Particularly I've seen people use theirs against Koobo on Stage 1.
I personally use a Star on Old Pier at the part with 2 taser Cops + 2 shield Cops. Examples:
Where else have you either used your Stars or seen others use them, and do you think these strategies save more time over keeping them for the bosses?
I appreciate you so much, this is a great read!
If I do a Level Select IL and beat my time can I submit that one level direct to you or just off of full runs?
Pulled off this snipe for the first time today, then when I was waiting on her to arrive I remembered I was meant to be SPEED running lol and ran right into her. But it was fun swag, thanks for sharing!
