For your request, we require a video of a full-game run played by you. We strongly prefer such a run is not a segmented run, and may reject requests if they are segmented runs. If a game is heavily based on Individual Levels and does not really feature a full-game run, a playlist of an overwhelming majority of the IL's for the game is acceptable. Submissions which do not meet this criteria will be rejected without being considered.
• From the game request form.

A single level would not meet requirement for "an overwhelming majority of the IL's", nor would it count as a full-game run.

Time without Loads can be calculated by adding up the time on each rating screen (and also the times shown on the in-game timer if you reset). Use https://solderq35.github.io/fg-time-calc/

Time with Loads can be included if you want but it's optional for VR since this category doesn't get that much submission anyways. Just try to avoid taking excessively long breaks between levels as that was the point of adding Time with Loads on there anyways.

If you do want to include Time with Loads, you can use the timing method "Timing starts when the first level loads, and timing ends when exit prompt is pressed on final mission."

The above is just a rough summary, please head to the full game leaderboard and press "view rules" button before asking next time. I feel like you didn't even bother reading before asking (again). There are a lot of small details about the timing rules I don't have time or energy to be repeating in a forum post, just read the rules.

Also if you need some inspiration you can consider the PSVR Trilogy SA run here: https://www.speedrun.com/hitman_3/run/yv2d8pem
Submit the time on the rating screen (In Game Time) to the "Time without Loads" input field.

Do not fill out the "Time with Loads" input field for individual level runs
Also don't submit any milliseconds for VR category.

This information is all clarified if you click "view rules" button on the leaderboard.

I apologize in advance if this is inciting too much drama.

However, I would like to point out that DragonQwertik is a suspected cheater in the Hitman 3 community.

Suspect run: https://www.speedrun.com/hitman_3/run/zn00wv9y

There were multiple inconsistencies with this run + lack of game audio that made us suspect that this run was played with slow motion cheats and the game footage sped up later.

DragonQwertik refused to play again with audio (even though they submitted runs with audio before this), citing the flimsy excuse "This was done at 9 and that is when my brother sleeps so I gotta turn off the sound". Even though headphones exist.

https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/839446045565255690/883773619547824179/unknown.png

TL;DR DragonQwertik is almost certainly a cheater for at least one game, and as such has zero grounds to be a speedrun moderator of another game nor accuse others of cheating, at least in my opinion.

Please take this question to a game-specific forum or discord, or even contact the game's speedrun moderators directly, as outlined in the pinned post. It's really up to the community/moderators of each game. The general forums here are not an appropriate place to ask this.

Having said that: Whether this is allowed likely depends on how easy it is to reset progress in this game. Unless this game is one where all progress is stored online or something, there is surely a way to delete previous progress between runs. "Losing all your lives, or straight up aborting the game" is probably not the only way or best way to reset progress, delve a little deeper before asking this kind of question.

However there are cases where this is not the case; I moderate a series of games (new Hitman trilogy) where all progress is stored online and it's virtually impossible to reset progress outside of making a new platform account (PS, Xbox, Epic account etc) each time. Hence, the main speedrun category for these games is NG+ and a lot of pre-run setup is allowed and not counted in the speedrun timing.

We are not interested in creating categories for the non-final escalation levels for the foreseeable future, due to the sheer volume of them and general lack of historical interest.

You should plan out your video more in the future, such as with opening with "I will be covering x, y, z points and this is my overall argument". The stream-of-consciousness narration turned me off as a viewer and I'm not sure what your point is.

Some responses to your video, with that out of the way:

 • I kind of prefer that there isn't an "overarching speedrun community", actually. Every speedgame is different, so in the end it makes sense that people from different games' community don't really talk to each other (unless there is an obvious connection like games in the same series, etc). Why would a Super Mario runner ask a Minecraft runner about a Mario specific speedrun issue, for instance?

 • I don't get what your deal about "leaderboard problem" means. Documentation of a speedrun strategy, and keeping track of a speedrun's world records are two separate issues. Removing or revamping a leaderboard does not magically improve a speedgame's tutorials or community helpfulness etc.

 • I do think that speedrun.com's "guides" and forum features leave a lot to be desired, but at the end of the day, it's up to individual community members to shoulder the work of making solid tutorials and guides. In addition, running a game and making speedrun tutorials are also two separate things; it's not uncommon for someone else other than the world record holder to be the one making speedrun tutorials. Simply being a speedrunner and being able to make good video tutorials (often requiring good video editing knowledge for instance) are different skillsets and you can't expect every speedrunner to be a professional level video editor as well. If you're in a more niche speedrun community and there is a lack of devoted individuals among you that can make high quality, accessible speedrun tutorials... well, tough. A better speedrun.com UI won't save you.

 • At the end of the day, the people who have their ear to the ground and are listening in on the most obscure Discord conversations, and talking to the best runners in private etc will always have an advantage, as high quality speedrun tutorials will always lag behind bleeding edge discoveries. That will always be true, people who seek knowledge more are rewarded for it.

 • I also think that Discord has its own advantages over forums. When you're trying to give lot of tips and troubleshooting to a new runner, where you will exchange messages rapidly, a chat client is preferable. And important stuff can be pinned as well.

As a final aside, I do agree with a lot of these points regarding speedrun tricks documentation at the end of the day. However, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for speedrun.com to improve, I would recommend making your own wiki. Speedsouls is a good example: https://wiki.speedsouls.com/Main_Page

Non-Exhaustive list of reasons why this is a terrible idea:

 • You can't reset progress in this game outside of making a new platform account, since this is an Always Online Game.
 • This is by far the biggest detriment to the idea. Considering that on Epic you can't family share, you will have to buy a new copy of the game every new 100% speedrun attempt. How stupid is that?? And a lot of PC players are on Epic (technically you can reset progress via IOI's website, but you can only do this once every few months so this isn't feasible long term). Honestly this alone is enough reason to never consider this idea, you can disregard the other points below.
 • Timing is a whole 'nother rabbit hole. To be true to the spirit of how people actually play the game when trying to do challenges fast, save scumming would probably need to be allowed. However, this would majorly increase verification workload, as it's a whole lot messier to calculate in-game time from someone coming out of a save vs starting a level fresh. RTA timing is out of the question, due to loading time discrepancy.

 • Verifying if someone actually completed the challenges or got 20 mastery is more complex than you might know. In my experience, if you complete a challenge but don't complete the level, this isn't always reflected in the mastery level shown on the planning screen. You have to go into the player's Career->Mastery page from main menu to get an accurate idea.

 • Some challenges are just stupid. Trying to do some challenges such as shooting all the birds in Whittleton Creek, shooting all cameras etc are just extremely tedious on their own, let alone back to back with other challenges.

 • Depending on how you define "100%", this game never ends. This is true even if you consider 100% as just meaning "complete all challenges". Custom contracts (with challenges attached) come out regularly, new ET's with challenges attached come out regularly, new escalations come out regularly, etc.

Yes, it's something that was introduced to the site in an update. No you can't disable it. Yes there is a limit of up to 3 columns, between timing methods and variables. For instance, note that in Minecraft Java, because this game has two timing methods, only one variable can be shown before the rest are hidden.

As for why this policy is in effect... it's because the site owners like being bureaucratic and forcing a uniform look on all the leaderboards. Or something.

I submitted my feedback, but to be blunt, it feels somewhat like I'm wasting my time.

Back when Pac ran the site, I submitted feature requests to the Feedback forum thread Pac monitored. When Elo took over, I submitted to Elo's feedback Google form... many times. Now Elo requests yet another feedback form?

I feel like I am giving the same feedback over and over, and we've had what, like one feature update that actually affected leaderboards since then? (And negatively as well, in my opinion, with half-baked leaderboard redesign and comment features).

The numerous requests for feedback (despite very few actual changes) feel like an attempt to just constantly "reset" the number of feature requests or something, as Elo can't be bothered actually reading all the feedback they already have.

The fact that Elo provides a (presumably higher priority) feature request thread specifically for paying Supporters also leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Choosing new features to implement should be based on the merit of the feature suggestions. There is no need to constantly ask for the same feedback and even filter out feedback based on the users' willingness to pay. There are literally years worth of good feedback sitting in backlog by now.

If I'm misinterpreting the situation, I apologize.

Stuff like this is why site staff is very reluctant to allow allow the creation of new series mods. The ability to add games to speedrun.com at will is so easily abused in so many ways.
People hate seeing ads on their free services. People hate paying for services. It's not like there's an actually good solution here where we get a service with no visible monetization and they get to keep paying people to run the website.
The middle ground here of course, is to find a middle ground where the ads are unobtrusive enough that one would be willing to keep using the site as is without turning on an adblock.

Most of the ads on speedrun.com are fine in my opinion, but I cannot stand the auto-playing popup video ads that play in the corner. These ads always obstruct actual leaderboard info (rather than just staying on the borders as banner ads), and more often than not, it is very hard to locate the "close button" for these ads.

Example: https://i.ibb.co/x3GtfWB/tinyxbutton-src-ad.png

Note the absolutely tiny X button on the ad in the lower left corner (I've edited in a blue circle around it for your convenience), and also the abysmal situation of having a black X button over another ad with a dark color (making the x button of the video ad near-invisible).

Obviously speedrun.com is not 100% responsible for how third party ads show up on their website, but I think just removing these video popup ads altogether (if possible) would go a long way.

Banner ads are the norm, but video popup ads always just screams "sketchy" and "annoying for the sake of being annoying" to me, on any website.

And these video ads covering up actual leaderboard information is just going against the site's core functionality as a whole.

You need to work on your presentation skills. I could barely manage to skim through your 50 minute video of incoherent ranting. A document format would have been much better.

This video can be condensed down to the following points (correct me if I'm wrong):

 1. This moderator's initial rules regarding the "100%" category were seemingly incorrect and/or outdated based on new findings (450 vs 460 total points. Also I have no idea why you bothered to initially cite a 2005 GameFaq's guide, that you yourself deemed outdated in your video).
 2. Based on the above, the moderator has "shady" motivations (pure speculation on your part).
 3. The moderator and you appear to have different interpretations regarding if changing the emulator game speed mid-run is a valid speedrun tactic.
 4. At some point your once friendly relationship with this moderator deteriorated into bickering, personal attacks, nationality bashing (note that you and this person have different native languages and are communicating via Google Translate, at least on his end).

This is less about the moderator's "shady" behavior in my eyes and more about the two of you having poor communication. It's easy to assume the worst of people, but there are many possible reasons this moderator did not immediately change the 100% category's rules to be 460 points. Maybe he wanted to do more research first (granted that these GameFaq guides were proven wrong and it also seems like you guys don't fully understand how changing game speed affects the game in general). What you could see as the moderator dodging the question, could be explained by things getting lost in translation.

I also don't know why you are so fixated over an old and outdated run (that literally says "FAIL" in the video title). Just move on and focus on improving standards for new runs going forwards. Remove the old runs from speedrun.com if desired since they did not get 460 points. It really feels like you started a witch hunt and burned a friendship over a run that was made when rules weren't even solidified, just let it go.

I would recommend these new rules if not already in place

 1. Require 460 points.
 2. Decide with this moderator if you want to ban or allow changing the game/emulator speed.

From a moderation perspective, I'd trust the comment feature more if moderators could get notifications for comments. As it is, someone could write a hate comment and I wouldn't even know until I check the audit log. So I don't really trust it. Note: for some reason only the super moderators can see audit log...

Although maybe it isn't supported cause it could flood notifications for moderators otherwise, for popular games? Dunno.

In any case I've only allowed people who have a run on speedrun.com to write comments, for the games I moderate. It's a little extreme but it mostly serves as a good filter to only allowing actual humans to comment, as usually bot spammers don't go to the effort to make speedruns.

In general, I think that people generally interested in speedruns should take discussion to that game's speedrun discord/forum anyways, the comment feature isn't good for meaningful discussion outside of a few "congrats bro".

Hitman 3 Escalations Any% Poll: https://forms.gle/7LmsMc15dJCvMccG8

This time around we will be requiring you to list your Discord or Speedrun.com username to filter out duplicate votes.

The category was added earlier yesterday as a trial, but upon further reflection, we want more community input. We will do more public polls in the near future about leaderboard rulings as well.

Game moderators are generally allowed to ban users from submitting runs to specific game(s), without getting said user banned from the entire site as well, including for non run-related reasons such as harassment.

Read this thread for some reasons some game moderators choose to do this, as well as previous site staff statement on the matter (if the policy has changed since Elo acquired the site, they haven't said anything about that): https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/sd0mi/

For a more concrete example, you can consider the various user blacklists for Super Mario Sunshine. The users listed in the document were banned from Super Mario Sunshine leaderboards and had their runs removed for off-site conduct (read the document for specifics), but are not necessarily banned from speedrun.com as a whole.

If you feel you've been unjustly banned, you can try to petition it via Support Hub request, but don't expect miracles.

This category does not exist and it never will exist.

Previous discussions and polls among the community led to the consensus that on any%, you should just run on the lowest difficulty (casual).

Most of the additional changes on higher difficulty such as getting seen by enemies faster, enemies hearing footsteps, etc are not relevant to the any% category.

I will say that the IL Leaderboard Table (the table that shows the top times of each level) is very lacking, and it only shows the top time for the default subcategory. It's been requested for awhile to have the option to toggle between subcategories on the IL leaderboard table.

For example, read this proposal: https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/g79jt/83#ck1sd https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/374153827169075202/721535429702058074/temp1.png

Imagine being able to see the level records for each platform subcategory and for each level all on one table. Rather than having to go into each level to see its platform/subcategory records.

Rules about game audio are game specific, some but not all games require it.

I will say that what you're describing sounds like a common cheating method, where you play a game at a slow speed via cheats and then speed the video up later. Don't try it.
