New York, USAI'm curious as to what the differences are that lead to these three having their own category. Somebody school me.
It would be a shame to have a Trilogy leaderboard without a trilogy category. You guys probably have to agree on rules for completing the trifecta before anyone goes through with a run.
The emulator save/load times vary? They're not instant every time?
The main reason I haven't completed a timed run of DKC is because I can't submit it to this site. I hope the leaderboards here open up soon.
Also, another question in addition to the one I asked last month: is it not feasible to make a category specifically for emulator runs that are separated from the console runs? I finally got my Dolphin to work and now I'm thinking about doing runs of Strikers but I need a board to submit to.
Don't be afraid of change, gentlemen. Don't get hung up on keeping something named a certain way just because that's the way it's always been done. It would probably take all of 10 seconds to change "Any%" to "Any% (NMG)" and it wouldn't negatively impact anyone's life in any way. No riots, no sounds of sobbing speedrunners, no mushroom clouds in the distance. Everyone would go on living their lives as they had before, the only difference being that a few people are slightly less confused about one particular thing. Give it a shot.
Here's the opinion of one guy who doesn't play the game yet: If you're going to have two categories for Any%, it should be Any% and Any% (Glitchless) instead of Any% and Any% (Glitched). The way the latter comes across is that it's the same thing because Any% should be all inclusive and Any% (Glitched) would include what Any% should already include.
How much faster is the Dolphin emulator than console? If you figure out how much time you're saving on emu, you should be able to just tack that on to a Dolphin run and have it all equal out.
I'd like to see Cyber be a mod for X5. Make it happen.
One day there's going to be a site that actually wants to track all of your speedruns and I can't wait for that.
Wow, I didn't mean to start all this drama and people getting aggressive with opinions. I just wanted to be able to see my run on the boards without having to deal with filters.
You guys keep throwing the word "priority" around like it even needs to be a thing. Neither console or emulator needs priority over the other. They're both game players. If one is faster than the other, either via load times or whatever, figure out by how much and adjust submitted times as necessary so that all runs can be shown without filters. Let's say emulator is 30 seconds faster via load times than console. Tack 30 seconds onto every emulator run and problem solved, right? If there's too many emulators with too many differences for you to want to deal with, limit the emulators that are allowed. Maybe pick the most accurate one and we'll just use that one. And if by some miracle emulators run games the same as console, there wouldn't be any really good reason to separate them on the boards or filter them other than to make console elitists feel better about themselves. If push comes to shove, you could definitely just make a new separate tab for emulator runs (not the filter tab). There are simple solutions to all of these issues. This talk about games weren't meant to be run on emulators instead of consoles is silly. It's like, welcome to the year 2016. Technology has advanced since we were kids. Get with the times. I'm sure at one point somebody said humans weren't meant to fly in planes or travel to the moon either but here we are. Fairness and equality is (or should be) the goal and mindless discrimination for discrimination's sake doesn't get us there.
Do we not want emulator to be #1 over console? i can't imagine why it would matter unless there's some big difference between the two. Maybe load times or something like that. It looks like the #1 for the category I submitted for is an emulator run but his run is hidden. Seems kind of unfair to that guy. I feel bad for him. Also I feel bad for me 'cause my run is hidden. GG me.

There's no chance of a random nobody claiming WR for a Mega Man game here. Anybody who posts a time here intending to claim WR has to deal with the rest of us as competition; we'd just post a faster time. Anyone who was fast enough to keep the rest of us off that #1 spot will be familiar with the community and have more respect than to pretend to be a WR holder if he's not.
I challenge everyone from this post forward to cease using the word "community" in their further discussions of this topic because I'm pretty sure it's just getting in the way of progress at this point. If you wanna talk about what people want and what they don't want, let's call them out by name.
If people can submit runs on the behalf of others, why aren't we just assigning new mods to the X series and having them post everyone's runs?
Each board should definitely have the up-to-date WR holder on there. Unfortunately, we have some situations where the current WR holder wants nothing to do with these boards and wouldn't post his PB here to save his life. If that ends up being the case and we also somehow can't post the WR on their behalf, I think the solution is to show the WR in each board's Rules section along with a link to the Megamanleaderboards.net site that shows the more complete board. Give credit to the runners who don't want to be here and stop putting restrictions on the runners who do want to be here. Everybody wins, right? Sounds good to me.
