Since I know nothing of 3D All-Stars I figured I might as well ask: Is this true for SM64 3DAS as well? Where the differences between PAL (50hz / 60hz, 25fps / 30fps) is irrelevant, and it would just be text differences?
For N64 (and also EMU versions) PAL version is just slower because of the fact the game is running at 25fps, where NTSC-U and NTSC-J run at 30fps, so PAL N64 version are strictly slower that NTSC N64 versions.
About 3DAS, the version is unique so everyone does have the same game.
About languages, english text is faster for 70 Star only (so NTSC-U for N64/EMU players, and use english text on 3DAS) For alll other categories, japanese text is the fastest text (NTSC-J for N64/EMU players, and use japanese text on 3DAS)
What's fastest for 0 and 1 star, I heard Dowskey say, English is faster for 0 star by just a little bit, but I've also heard the other way around. And I'm just clueless about 1 star
honestly, it's only like 200ms faster, so I'd go with your gut. the japanese text has less sections, while the english one has faster scrolling, but more sections.
For 120 it's not only the text, it's also that the JRB star is not in a box in the japanese version which saves around 2s.
It's not even "not only the text." Japanese text is strictly slower, the reason it's faster for 120/16 are JRB cannon star, shorter intro, and the lil penguin lost star in CCM. It does also save time on a few individual text boxes (Wiggler, Eyerok), but overall the text is slower.
We would like to announce that VC and EMU subcategories are now active on the Stage RTA leaderboards (under "Levels"). Stage RTA involves collecting all the stars in a given stage including the 100 coin star. Timing starts on star select and ends upon collecting the final star. You are allowed to us
