if there's a pause issue you can also use joytokey to bind the pause button to esc if that would be an allowed mod.
It'd be a big stretch to count Joy2Key as a mod, that thing doesn't touch the game nor it's files at all.
that's true and with xinput it would just be allowing a pause function on the controller instead of having to switch back and forth from controller to keyboard.
so, would joy2key need to be added to make the start button work w/o having to take time lost to hit esc to bring the pause menu up?
I've never seen a need for moving the pause function to the controller, only time you ever pause is when pause buffering and when you are doing that you are almost always waiting on a call at a particular time so you can't really save or lose anytime
^ Yeah pretty much, but it makes it easier than having to go back and forth and resetting runs.
Reason I said time lost is how I get cop bikes in sf but that's okay. Thank you hoxy!
Did anyone else have an issue with their anti-virus software having a field day with the install files?
Downloaded different version seemed to work ok now
As far into B as a hold call & alt. fire I haven't test that set-up to see if that makes a difference or not if needed i can give out my controller lay-out and see if we can find a common set-up that works. my only guess is to do a kb&m set-up but with the controller, idk how nor if it will work but i've been busy and haven't tested nor looked into it. also having to learn a whole new controller layout will take some time to get use to as playing with the one I had for so long kinda sucks but if there is a solution i would love to hear it and test it out! :D
All I know is that you can hold the action button and pause buffer - and if a call comes in in that time, it will be held. The buttons that work for this are shift and mouse buttons. Pausing "normally" (pressing Esc once instead of holding (pause buffering)) causes the buttons to be dropped, so the call would be taken.
It is possible that without mods (or when using XInput Plus), you need to use specific controller buttons - or even that none work. Or that with GInput only specific buttons work but the ones that do work are different than without mods (or using Xinput Plus).
Jay says that people should try different buttons and I agree. Have fun testing. :D
Just gonna point out that I don't use XInput so what works for me is probably irrelevant. Also I don't use the same buttons as nati as he implied in his post. Just try different things I guess. Another thing you should look into is what buttons are assigned to what numbers in XInput itself make sure you set it up just like nati and then try.
Patrick_: What would be the difference between Pause Buffering vs. Pausing? How long it is paused? In that case, even the key repeat rate may be relevant, as in how often you pause/unpause per second. Or does the game actually detect that you're holding down the button and acts differently because of that?
I use Shift to hold calls and had my call dropped during phonecall starting LS Stadium. I don't remember if that always happened or just sometimes, maybe when I ended up on the Pause screen at the end of Pause Buffering. Either way, I always Pause Buffer without holding the call, and as soon as the call comes in instantly release ESC and start holding Shift (in that order, so that I can never Pause by accident while already holding the call). If I'm at the Pause screen at that point I can just unpause, since I don't hold the call yet in that case.
difference between Pause Buffering vs. Pausing? How long it is paused?
I suppose all it is about is how long the gap between pauses is. When I set my repeat rate to below 50% (Windows 7), I can sometimes see the stat menu when holding "action" and Esc. Maybe the same could happen when you get a lot of lag.
Anyway, I just noticed that the method you describe can be simplified: You do not need to release Esc before holding shift because holding shift already stops the pause buffering.

I always Pause Buffer without holding the call, and as soon as the call comes in I start holding Shift ~~ (in that order, so that I can never Pause by accident while already holding the call) ~~ and then release Esc. If I'm at the Pause screen at that point I can just unpause, since I don't hold the call yet in that case.
okay so i will have to test this out some more but thanks to the convo from @Patrick_ & @tduva is what really help with that so thank you both of ya!
if your using xinput and want to do GT skip walk to the marker not in i.t wait until the call is about to come in just like the SF dupes and then walk into the marker pause buffer until you hear the call undo the pause while holding your call and you should be good to go! if you used Ginput before you could hold the call before walking into the marker and pause buffer while still holding the call and so on and get the set up. now for holding the call with only "B or square " i still have to test that but for now it seems what i said above will work again thanks to Patrick and tduva for having the convo!

is my set up as i feel as it most comfortable use as a reference
Edit: you will only want to worry about anything that has "JOY" in it and also if you don't already know you have to set the game up to JoyPad not mouse + key. if needed i can take better screen shots just let me know.
