[big][center]Fallout: New Vegas "Glitchless" Text Guide[/center][/big]
These notes aims to teach you roughly how to do the run, but I would also recommend to watch videos of existing runs, and practice yourself.
[section=Before Starting] Before starting, make sure you've capped your framerate to 60 or below. (VSync is shit and still makes the game run faster than hard capping with 3rd party tools such as Dxtory or MSI Afterburner) If you're unsure if your movement speed is correct, download the save file from the resource section and put it in your saves folder (Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\Saves) and time your walking. It should be around 5 minutes flat.
The latest steam version (Or the GOG version) for the game is what the run is performed on (Patch 1.4). The only difference between the Ultimate Edition and the regular is that Ultimate Editon includes all DLC released for the game.
Have only the Mercenary Pack DLC enabled, disable all other DLC. (You need to actually delete/rename the DLC from the \Data\ folder since disabling them through the launcher/steam won't do anything) The reason you don't want them is because they give you a pop-up ingame, which wastes time.
Use Livesplit as timer and set your game in the split file as Fallout: New Vegas, then activate the load remover (Make sure you're comparing against Game Time. Right Click > Compare Against > Game Time).
If you have issues with mouse acceleration in menus, try this fix:
- Go to the installation folder.
- Open Fallout_default.ini
- Find the section: [Controls]
- Add these lines:
fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0 fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0 fForegroundMouseBase=0 fForegroundMouseMult=0
If you have issues with the game crashing in load zones, find the following line in the fallout_default.ini:
bUseThreadedAI=0
change the line to 1 and add the line iNumHWThreads=2 underneath it. (Should look like the lines below, if 2 doesn't work, try having a 1 instead)
bUseThreadedAI=1 iNumHWThreads=2
If editing fallout_default.ini didn't work, try also editing the fallout.ini file in the my documents\my games\FalloutNV folder.
Using the Italian voice files saves a significant amount of time in this category, which means that you probably want to enable it by either downloading it through steam or finding the italian voice files in the discord pins.
Turning the Actor Fade in the launcher settings down could help with enemy aggro.
Turn the in game difficulty to Very Easy.
[section=Techniques and Terminology] Some relevant terms and techniques used when running, or other stuff that's useful to know.
Controls = Most of the keys are rebindable in the controls menu, but some actions are hardcoded and cannot be rebound, such as menuing with the Arrow keys, and bringing up/switching screens on the pip-boy with the F-keys (F1, F2, F3). The vendor menus are also unrebindable.
Load Screen Movement = After any load screen the screen will fade in from black, taking an extra second before you can see anything. You can control your character during this fade in, so plan your movement accordingly.
FT = Fast Travel. It's what you do to quickly warp to a point on the map which you've already explored.
Text Mashing = Mashing Left Mouse Button and ENTER is the fastest way to get through dialogue. This however risks skipping triggers, but the only time this matters in Any% is with Doc Mitchells dialogue (But you can mash with both regular enter and the numpad enter to get a safe fast text here), but if you do other categories such as Max Quests this is something to keep in mind.
Stop Hopping = The main movement technique in the run. By holding a direction, flicking your mouse and jumping and then quickly release the directional input as you land, and then repeat, you can increase your movement speed akin to circle jumping or strafe jumping in other games. There are several tutorial videos on how to do this in the other guides. Just watch your wrists.
[Section=Route Notes]
DOC MITCHELL
Timer starts when you skip cutscene. Be prepared to skip the tutorial box by pressing DOWN and ENTER. Enter on Name Screen. When character creation pops up, press DOWN, DOWN, ENTER, ENTER, ENTER, ESC. When you gain character control get to the Vigor Tester Machine as fast as possible. Whilst Doc Mitchell is talking, grab the Stimpaks on the shelf, the Doctor's Bag by the bed and the Med-X on a medical cabinet. Use the Vigor Tester Machine, Your stats should be 2-4-9-10. After putting 10 Charisma exit the machine by pressing A. Wait for dialogue and then sit in the sofa. Quickly mash through all the top options with both enter keys if you have them. Double mashing with mouse here risks displacing your stats to something undesirable. Change the Melee Weapons tag to Explosives. Pick the Good Natured trait. Exit the sofa and talk to Doc Mitchell. Mash through dialogue and say no to hardcore. Exit house.
GOODSPRINGS TO STRIP
As soon as you exit Doc's house, mash F2 to bring up the inventory screen. Go to the Aid tab and bind Stimpaks, Doctor's Bags and Med-X. Go to the Map Screen and FT to Goodsprings. Head east towards Hidden Valley. (Watch a run for a walking route). As soon as you discover the FT point of Hidden Valley, FT to it. Turn slightly right and head through the Black Mountain crater. Avoid Neil by either punching the air or have good stop hops. As soon as you discover the Black Mountain FT point, FT to it. Turn 180 and head to the eastern wall of McCarran, where the railway is. Get next to the furthest pillar by the monorail. Bring up your inventory, go to the Armor section and drop the Lightweight Metal Armor. Position the armor so that it's on the small ledge and about 2/3rds to the right of the south pillar wall. Use the armor as a springboard and jump on top of the invisible plane, then jump on top of the rail. Mash jump whilst walking against the railway at quite a steep angle to the left. Keep going for about 5-10 seconds and then turn to the right and get on top of the rail. Jump against the center of the train several times until you start climbing. If you get stuck, try to shimmy a bit to the left. Enter the train and get ported to the strip station. Head towards the exit and avoid the guard by putting up your fists and holstering them again.
STRIP 1
Process the forced Victor conversation, mash top options. Go to the Ultra-Luxe, surrender your weapons and talk to Mortimer. Say Goodbye and leave the Ultra-Luxe. Go to the Tops and surrender your weapons. Get far enough back to trigger the main quest completion and then talk to Swank. Pick the "I think you should know something about Benny." option. Mash through the speech options then exit conversation. Bind the dynamites and then equip the Grenade Launcher. Kill Benny and try to pick off his goons with the splash damage. It usually takes 2 shots. Around here is where the important level ups appear. You want to get your Survival up to 45, and then dump everything into speech until it's 100. The only important Perk is Level 4, which should be Travel Light. After killing Benny holster your weapon and go to the elevators in the back. Enter and go through Benny's Suite to Yes Man in the back. Talk to Yes Man, pick the 7 first top options, on the 8th pick the second option "So I should ask...", next top option then exit dialogue. Head towards the exit but don't forget to LOOT BENNY by pressing the Loot All button. Exit the Tops and head to the Lucky 38 whilst avoiding Vulpes. Talk to Victor to open the doors, enter the 38 then talk to Victor again to port to the Penthouse. Turn a left, jump down the ledge and use the terminal to open the secret wall. Use the next terminal to unlock the elevator. Take elevator and use the terminal down there to activate House and then kill him. Exit the Lucky 38. Any level ups you get is just dump into speech and the perks doesn't matter. Exit to Freeside.
FACTION SWEEP
Go straight to the other Freeside Section then straight again through the North Gate. After exiting to the main wasteland head North East to NELLIS Air Force Base. Avoid the artillery and go to the main gate. Take top options and get ported to Pearl. Top option then second option. Exit and FT to Hidden Valley. Turn left and enter the BoS bunker. -Bring out your dynamite and open the first door. Barely touch the trigger whilst backing through the door you just entered whilst also tossing the dynamite. -Or use a grenade launcher in a similar way. Hitting the back wall will almost alwyas make it work. -Or walk to the BoS guards, pickpocket the bunker key and then turn around. Shoot at them whilst running away. Exit the bunker and FT to Goodsprings. Head North and discover the Red Rock Canyon. The quest trigger is a big square in the middle of the canyon. Bring up your fists and FT back to the Strip North Gate. Punch the air as you arrive and enter the Strip. Go to the Gomorrah and pick the bottom option. Be careful to avoid Mr Holdout's trigger. Go to Yes Man and tell him to ignore all the factions you've met, then tell him to join you in the Lucky 38. Go to the Lucky 38 penthouse. Sit through the cutscene. Talk to Yes Man and and process quest. Talk to Yes Man again and tell him that you don't care about Kimball. Exit the Lucky 38.
ENDGAME
FT to Black Mountain. Turn left and head to the El Dorado Substation. Enter the substation and interact with the terminal. FT back to Strip North Gate. Punch the air to avoid Old Ben again. Enter the Lucky 38. Talk to Yes Man, head to Dam. Proceed towards the checkpoint. -Jump on the sandbags and jump around the invisible walls to land on the inner walls, then do a precise jump on the awning on the other side. using the TCG console command can help you practice this trick. -OR jump off the dam on the left side and land in the water. Swim to the eastern end and walk towards the rocks and perform a precise jump. Check below for an image. Head to the Legate's Camp. Enter the camp and once you've passed through the second gate, head up the rocks to your left and touch the walls to hit the speech trigger. Back up so the Legate can see you. Talk him down by picking the "Maybe you're willing to listen to reason." and the following Speech options. After talking him down head towards the exit gate and talk to the General. First dialogue is Top option. Second dialogue is first 3 Top option, 4th Mid option (Speech/Bluff), 5th option is Bottom option. Talk to Yes Man. Game finished, GG.
