General Speedrunning Advice
When recording:
-
private server runs: if the run submitted is top 10, if possible show VIP settings to ensure run isn't modified so default tools were only used, and make sure to record 1-2 seconds after the end of speedrun - this just makes it easier for verification
-
public server runs: include footage of the game/round's end (end of the round) before the run, since the timing varies from the start of run
When submitting evidence of run: try to upload on YouTube as speedrun evidence - alternative uploading sites such as Medal, TikTok, Google Drive are not an issue but they will be re-uploaded to YouTube to be re-timed
Speedrunning Techniques
Spawn Manipulation (Private Server)
Explanation is in video description.
Spawning (Solo Public Server)
Before the new round starts, on keyboard press ESC then R (or go to Roblox game settings and open option to reset character). If you spawn on top (4/11 chance), exit out of the screen (press ESC twice). Else, reset and go to the reset character option while in the death state. and repeat until you spawn on top. Note: You can do this at a maximum of 3 times because for public server rules, time automatically starts after 5 seconds on a new game if the player has not moved.
Usage of tools
Bomb Jump
To bomb jump, equip bomb, then jump and click at the same time. This allows you to gain vertical height.
Bomb Fly / Bomb Launch
To bomb fly, equip bomb and click, face the direction you want to launch to, and jump when the bomb explodes. This is useful for quick travelling, and can do both horizontal and vertical travelling
To bomb launch from top base to top base, you can sword lunge and jump after the bomb explodes, and when timed well you can reach the base before the bomb reload. Note: You can control the distance of how far you launch depending on when you sword lunge and where you stand.
To bomb launch from bottom base to bottom base, there are 2 cases:
- Bomb launching on an open corner
This corner can be open because of a rocket explosion, you can place bomb on corner and then launch yourself (without necessarily using sword) to the next base. Because of the shorter distance you have to jump and move forwards earlier than a bomb launch from top base to top base.
- Bomb launching on a closed corner
To do this, place a bomb from the inside corner, and then walk out of the base (this assumes a bomb was placed on the other corner of a base and has exploded), jump, slingshot jump twice (delay the first slingshot jump slightly), then sword lunge outside corner of base. You will launch from bottom base to bottom base from the outside
Rocket Fly
To rocket fly, equip rocket, shoot rocket on a surface. This is good for travelling short horizontal distances if bomb is being prioritised for next placement or is in a state of reload. It is possible to fly midair by using paintball (Paintball Rocket Fly). To do this, go in 3rd person without shiftlock, put mouse in centre and move it back slightly. Shoot paintball, then switch to rocket and shoot. The further the mouse is from the centre, the more distance the player will travel.
Bomb Placements
- Prioritise bomb placements over rockets
rockets can be placed before bombs but make sure the bomb is still in reload state. to make it safe, place rockets in-between bomb placements
- Use slingshot to push bomb
to avoid losing time when walking to a (closed) base corner, place a bomb and then slingshot it to a chosen corner. this also minimises the distance you have to travel in the speedrun
- Clip bomb inside base from the outside
After bomb launching from an open/closed corner (at the bottom of a base), you ideally launch to the next base you are getting rid of. The first problem is there is no way of getting inside the base (without the use of clipping glitches). The easy solution is to use a rocket to make a hole, but a better solution is to slingshot jump and place a bomb from the outside so that the bomb clips in the inside. A few errors can happen if done incorrectly: 1. Placing bomb too early means no bomb is placed, 2. Placing bomb too low causes the bomb to fall into the void, 3. Placing the bomb incorrectly may not disconnect the usual parts: this includes the side and front (depending on where the bomb was placed)
Wall stalling outside base
After bomb clipping from the outside, you have to wait until the bomb explodes to get in the base (unless there is another gap). There is a way to time when entering the base: slingshot (SS) jump, superball (SB) jump, SS jump, place trowel on base, SS jump, and sword lunge. A few errors can happen if done incorrectly: 1. Parts that come out of the explosion hit you if you are too close. 2. Next bomb placement is delayed due to waiting outside too much, 3. Falling off the map and then dying (known as voiding)
This is useful if you want need to place bombs from the inside of a base, but is in state of waiting from the outside
Tower weld glitch
This glitch lets the player attach themselves to a base and tricking the game that the player is a part of the base, so if they move so does the base (Tutorial: ). Note that "Welds" button must be turned on inside VIP settings, since this is a now feature-only thing (once unpatched in games).
Routing Optimisations
Going around map without backtracking
When doing a speedrun, there are many ways to make a run faster. One example is having a better speedrun route, such as making the player going around the map once without backtracking, ensuring bomb placements happen in between rocket placements. This is simple for single player / Solo, but much difficult for 2+ players since you want to split the work equally. Since the distance that players have travelled in the run is not a good measure of equal effort between players, we have to instead split the number of bombs and rockets that each player users, i.e:
Minimizing bombs with maximum rockets
To ensure no delay from waiting for a rocket to be placed, one can use the formula: (#bombs * 5) // 6 to determine number of maximum rockets in a strat, where "//" is integer division (drop remainder of the result) and #bombs is the number of bombs. Note that you have to subtract one from #bombs if it's a solo private run, since the timing starts on the first explosion and not placement.
For example on a Glitchless private server:
Solo: (7 * 5) // 6 = 5, so 8 bombs and at most 5 rockets
Duo: (8 * 5) // 6 = 6, so 4 bombs and 3 rockets EACH
Solo Tower: (3 * 5) // 6 = 2, so 3 bombs and 2 rockets
Solo Dual Twospire: (5 * 5) // 6 = 4, so 6 bombs and 4 rockets
Solo Omegaspire: (20 * 5) // 6 = 16, so 21 bombs and 16 rockets
It is useful to know that destroying a tower involves 3 bombs and 1 rocket at minimum.
Making use of bridges
Bridges connect the top part of the base and prevent them from falling, even if the bottom base got removed. However, we can use this to our advantage to knock more than one base at a time, if the bridge is only connecting the base and preventing it from falling. Multiple towers can be removed at once using the Tower weld glitch.
Hello everybody,
I'd like to first announce a new DSBB speedrunning game developed by . This can be accessed from the , or [here](
