I did the split- it was a pain in the coccyx because you had to re-enter every single one manually after deleting them all and there's no edit-undo feature. I feel like we talked about it in the discord bc it was a lot of work for something I really don't have much of an opinion on. Basic reasoning is that there's enough of differences between the two versions that it discourages anyone who only has access to the slower one. If I missed any, please let me know or re-submit them. The numbering is arbitrary- could just as easily have done old/new or DOS/WIN or original/reboot etc. I'm open to suggestions. I'm still floating around the void somewhere and mcill usually is too, we're all just a little older and slower now......

So I just found out updating/modifying the leaderboard structure is a pain in the tooth, and if you make one wrong move you delete everything and have to manually add them all back askmehowiknow cough Gizmos and Gadgets cough.

So I've officially changed my stance- I'm okay with the way it currently is if changing it around isn't just a quick fix.

As far as I'm aware, the only difference between "100%" and "Any%" is whether or not you get all the gems, and I think the difference was made bc finding fewer gems is both easier and faster. I don't feel like this applies to the Full Rainbow run since it works the opposite way: The rainbow completion is directly correlated to how many gems you collect. Since the easier way is slower, I don't see a reason to separate it into two categories.

I actually don't know if I'm a mod here or not, but I wanted to start a discussion about it anyway in case I'm missing something.

I'm in the process of moving everything over to youtube but I can't find my treasure cove runs on here. Did some runs get deleted or am I just blind?

If you want to adjust them yourself, I left pauses to show the times I used for comparison. It can be a little tedious because there are some frames where the robot is rotating toward the camera, but I used the last and first frames where the robot is fully facing either right or left. Technically, the standard is arbitrary, but they can still be compared to each other as long as they are all compared to the same standard. If I'm the one verifying it, I'll probably double check it either way.

I don't think the leaderboards should be split any further than it already is. It's not exactly a competitive game, and I think that complicating submissions by splitting into categories like game version, game speed, game type, etc. will have more detriments as far as deterring newcomers than any benefits it would have. I don't want potential new players to have to care about what version of the game they're running to make sure they're submitting to the correct category, and I don't want to create a situation where we mods have to sit here and count frames or create a way to prove that you're running a certain version or reject runs because they're submitted into the wrong category. I also don't want to become a game where either you have to find a specific version of the game to get a wr or one where anyone can farm high scores by submitting multiple runs done on multiple versions of the game.

@demiurgi Don't take this as hostile, but I don't see any submitted runs from you, so either I'm blind or you're a potential runner. You're the first person to actually care about it, so if you want to do research and figure out which combination of Amiga version and game version gives you the best results, you should be rewarded for that effort. However, at the same time, I don't think we should punish people who just want to play a game by making them do research/homework that would just kill the fun.

I didn't say anything about cheating, but the way it was done just killed all the fun. I've ground runs in another game to perfection and ended up regretting it because nobody wanted to play it anymore. If you're going to grind a run to death, at least share the experience with the community so we can follow the journey- I think we were all a bit annoyed bc it felt like this game we'd been passing our pbs back and forth with just got crushed by someone who just showed up, dropped all wrs then vanished, and it felt like a bully stomped on a sand castle we were all building together, then left. I know that's not the truth, but that's how it felt.

If you find a way to manip the seed, that's fine- there's plenty of other games that do it- but part of the community aspect is sharing things we learn and ways to make it better.

That said, while redlof might not have been suspicious, there were definitely those of us who were, and it did have some red flags of spliced runs that I'm not going to list out here.

To preserve some of the knowledge from a past era, after some playing around, we did find that if you crash the game after you started, it creates a save file with the rng of that playthrough. When you restart the game and select that save file, it goes through the same load screen and cinematic as a new game. As long as you crash the game before the end of day 1, you can explore around all you want and still have it look like you started a new game when you select the game the next time through. There's even the perfect moment at the end of the load screen where all the sound and animations stop that we concluded would be impossible to tell if spliced or not.

Again, that's not proof of cheating nor representative of my current view- that was years ago and I don't see DS in my forseeable future. I like that it's getting more attention, and I definitely do not want to stir up an unwinnable argument.

TLDR; Whether or not Vanakyria cheated is irrelevant; it was dropping all those perfect runs at once without sharing the experience of grinding for it or how it was done with the rest of the community that pulled all the fun out it.

Ok, so there was some mod changes- I'd completely given up on my run getting verified after about 3 years, and suddenly they all verified within a few days. I remember all of us stopping vanilla DS runs because one user in particular dropped a bunch of nearly impossible rng-tastic wrs in all the categories at the same time- no streams or anything just yt videos. I think he just figured out how to manip the rng or get the same seed and just knew exactly which direction to go in each video, and it kinda took the fun out of it for the rest of us rollin the dice. I've forgotten just about everything about how to run this game, but it's pretty cool to see the popularity picking back up.

I could have typed a thing instead, but then I couldn't play with Davinci Resolve

EDIT: IDK how often the game checks for win conditions, but I didn't see an issue with the time between end of fight and game won window

The switch controls are a bit wonky if you haven't tried it already. Maybe it's better if you're used to the wii version but I found it borderline unplayable, even after setting up custom controls on the Switch menu. The c-stick is now a two-button combination and I can't customize a two button combination, so it just hurts my brain.

That's not a bad idea considering the new src layout choices. I'll see if I can get in contact with Redlof about it. I never ventured far from the original vanilla version and shipwrecked, so I'm not at all sure what updates/changes were made to the series, but I agree that the current layout is a little confusing with all the different versions out there.

https://www.twitch.tv/coldiron1977/clip/BumblingBoldChowderCopyThis-GCTMAG6d_miTzk8u I cannot figure out the key press combo to imitate this. How to crouch sideways midair and clip through that surface.

A keyboard input would be a nice addition to future streams :-) https://www.technipages.com/linux-mint-enable-on-screen-keyboard

EDIT: Okay- here's what I've got: UP + LEFT - to start jump UP + SPACE - shoot web up and face up ??? - clip into building
