With some multiplayer runs having been completed, Kaboom Squad has now been split between Solo and Multiplayer subcategories, as there is a substantial difference between the two types of runs.

Patch 1.4 has made a bunch of changes, adding four new minigames and the end-of-board Bonus Bricks. This causes a few problems for existing speedrun categories.

All Minigames is no longer all the minigames. There's two ways to fix this:

  1. Since all the new minigames are 2v2 versions of existing minigames, change the rules to say only one version of each minigame must be completed, either the FFA or the 2v2. This keeps the existing category intact, and has precedent with some existing mario party speedrun rulesets (MP8 and MPDS). It does make the category a little confusing though.
  2. Make a new version of the category that requires all 64 minigames. This is simpler, but does invalidate existing runs. This could be done by adding a subcategory for Patch Version to the existing category, or with a whole new category and archiving the existing one.

I would prefer option 2, but both would work.

The Minigame Rush "Dream Teams" has all four extra minigames added, so it now has 13 minigames rather than 9. That category will need to be split by patch version or reorganised as well.

The default/recommended number of rounds for some boards have changed, Pirate Zone is now 6 rounds, and Ninjago Zone is now 8 rounds. Board categories require playing on the default number of rounds, which means those rules will need to be adjusted. If changing to the new defaults, new runs will have a significant advantage since they will have less turns. The other option is to ignore the new defaults and keep the current round numbers (8/10/10/12), but update the rules to mention that these numbers aren't the default anymore.

The new Bonus Bricks at the end of the boards create problems with the ending condition for board runs. The bonus bricks occur after the final load out of the board, which is the current end condition. This means it isn't possible to know whether you've won the board (a requirement of the speedrun) until well after the end condition. It also means that the strategy for any Individual Boards or the last one in All Boards is to skip everything on the board and use bonus bricks to win, since the time spent on the bonus bricks does not count towards the speedrun, which is a bit odd. I would suggest changing the end condition to be when the results screen appears after the bonus bricks and ending cutscene, to resolve both of these problems. That would also be consistent with the end conditions used for mario party games.

Other runners of this game may have other ideas I have not thought of as well, it may help to have a discussion.

Generally we'd be looking for a few people to have run a category before adding it, so if you're interested you should do some runs of it yourself. You could post a completed run here, or in the mario party speedruning discord server, and encourage others to run it.

However, a lot of the Showdown Minigames take a fixed amount of time, so this category wouldn't have much possible time variance. You may find that not many people are interested as because of that.

If you're interested in doing a run like this, the existing Diamond Rank category is similar to your suggestion, and involves playing most of these game modes.

If you do want this specific category, the normal expectation is that multiple people are interested and have completed runs before a category is added to the leaderboard. While you haven't completed a run yet, if you can complete one and post the video here or in the Mario Party Speedrunning discord server, you may find enough others interested in it that a category can be added. Even with no capture card, it's possible to get a video by using a phone camera to record your switch screen, or anything along those lines.

The prize for the winner is a VIP Badge on the MarioPartySpeedruns twitch channel. There's no prize with a monetary value though.

It's time for another speedrun event! The Koopathlon-a-thon is simple: participants complete as many (or as few) Koopathlon speedruns as they want during the event period, their fastest times will be recorded, and the one who has the best overall time at the end will be the winner. The event will be broadcast on the community twitch channel.

The Koopathlon-a-thon will run from (UTC) 22:00 8th November 2025 to 02:00 9th November 2025.

Koopathlon is a short and easy-to-learn speedrun, so even people who have never played it before can participate and win. If you're interested in joining, fill out the signup form.

Unfortunately, that's not feasible. We don't have an accurate method to find how much loading there is in a particular run, we can only get rough estimates.

Normally, categories aren't added until people have actually done runs of it and are interested in continuing to run it. 100% completing this game would be an extremely long category, taking several days, so it is unlikely that anyone would ever do it.

There's been a few requests for Individual Board categories so I've added them, you can find them under the "Levels" tab.

Since there was a few more people doing it, the Koopathlon leaderboard has now been added as a Misc category.

It's a little awkward as a category because there is an in-game record for it, but no in-game leaderboards, so there's probably a lot of people with existing proveable good times who wouldn't have a video to submit. I'm also not really sure how the in-game time is actually measured, so not sure if it's better to use in-game time or real time for a speedrun category.

If there's several people actually doing Koopathlon speedruns, we could add a leaderboard for it. If you ask in the Discord you might find others who are interested.

The categories require completing a certain set of minigames, based on the minigames included in the 5 minigame packs you can pick when playing the board game. Check them out if you're interested in shorter categories, or just something without Bowser's Big Blast.

The new leaderboards for all of them can be found on the Category Extensions page for this game: https://www.speedrun.com/mariopartysuperstarsce
