They can def clutch sometimes but they can also just put you in a bad spot or miss a speed/jump boost, it's super hit or miss tbh
I got a "good enough" sleep. Might try to get a better run at some point too this one was fun to do
To be honest, the main categories are super varied as-is so I'd rather not split it up even more than it already is for now.
Regarding the TP cancel I've got a few thoughts.
TP cancel is a small optimization that works best in longer categories where it can add up over time, and while it's easy to use on return trips, using it when going mining isn't as easily abusable just on the whole. It's very specific in that you have to be in a position where the type of ore you mine is more or less irrelevant, and you'd also be willing to play almost totally blind to save 2 seconds, which you could easily lose fumbling around in the dark.
Realistically speaking the categories this works for are extremely limited, since the ore variety increases the deeper or further into the game you go, and in the early game you either don't use the teleporter early enough to make use of it or run a glitched category. Basically, the ideal window of opportunity to make good use of blind mining trips is super limited.
Aside from that, the game itself isn't nearly active enough or the runs as polished enough to be at a point where playing almost blind is necessary in the categories that it can be used in. Like take my $100,000 glitched run for instance. I used it on a mining trip exactly once, and that was at the start where all I had to worry about was making space and getting some quick money for upgrades. Beyond that the run is a lot more specific and you need to be able to tell silver from rubies for instance.
Also regarding the space button spam thing, you can use it on the save point and it lags the game a ton. No idea if there could be an exploit of some kind there but it's another observation worth pointing out
• Map load game error. Not very useful on its own but super interesting. If you load a saved game, a new invisible row of blocks appears at the far right side of the map. It goes all the way to the bottom and can still contain ores and such, but each block in that row is invisible.
• Space button spam. So I noticed this when testing the TP save glitch but the teleporter on the surface can't normally be spammed unlike the shops, presumably because it doesn't open a menu. But if you press space to get rid of a tutorial message, then hold the button while it's still going away, the game actually accepts that and treats it as spam. The most useful case for that atm is when using the TP save glitch to make the initial teleport to 1000m+ more consistent and makes you less likely to take a ton of damage before you can teleport back.
• General item panel quirkiness. The item panel is funky and almost always evil. I've come across four glitches with it and three of them are dangerous.
The first and the only good one is the TP cancel. The second is that you can't click on repair kits while a tutorial message is on screen. The third is that using an item (like teleport) before the panel fully appears can remove the item panel entirely, forcing a page refresh. And the fourth is that if you have the panel up while in a shop menu, that menu won't close until you close the item menu.
A thread to keep track of glitches. The ones I know of are listed below.
• TP save glitch. Biggest glitch in the game, lets you use the teleport from any save file in a fresh save. Super easy to do too, just load up a save that has a teleport active, then start up a new save and it'll be instantly available. In $100,000 it's used to instantly hit a depth of 1000 or more to complete a bunch of milestones and get a ton of cash right at the start.
• TP cancel. This is one I noticed by accident, and I don't think it's been made use of yet. Basically, if you have the items menu up, teleport, then close the item panel during the warp animation, the teleport cancels. This has no real use on its own, but if you allow the game time to actually telelort you, and THEN close the menu, you'll be able to move sooner than the game would normally let you. Though the downside is it darkens your screen significantly, and you'll have to play the game squinting. Teleporting again does fix that though. A minor optimization but could be huge if this game gets super optimized one day.
• Map panel start / map panel tech. This is a very miner (heh) glitch/tech, but if you have the map panel open and then quit the game, then load back in or start a new game, the panel remains already open. What's also interesting to note is the map actually shows you ore/treasure that would be obscured by darkness. As of now this would probably be best used in the faster categories with the tp glitch banned (e.g. $1000) to roll for a good spawn.
Yeah I can get behind that. I'll give it a little longer, maybe till the end of the week and change the rules up. Might also make a thread about different glitches and tech sometime later too since I found a few in my most recent $100,000 run
Oh yeah it'd also be banned from All Digging Missions too
Hey figured I'd comment on this thread again. Basically the last mod was inactive so I decided to apply myself to moderate.
Still have a few more runs to go through but since I kinda have the keys to the kingdom here I wanted to see how anyone else who's still interested in running $1000 and $10,000 feels about banning the teleporter glitch for these categories.
I'm all for it personally but it's worth asking
Look I agree with you on the categories that turn it into a 1 second run, but for runs like $100,000 it speeds it up significantly. Aside from that though, the game is inactive as hell and has only a single mod. And the categories that it wrecks aren't exactly all that interesting, they're short as it is.
Now that's not to say it's a good thing, but like, it should be treated as a case-by-case thing, so it can still be used in the longer categories.
Don't hate the player hate the glitch that makes three categories obsolete. At least it makes $100,000 interesting
Just found out that the 2D mobile version also has a version on Steam, and if that's the case, I think it'd be a good idea to rename the "Any% Mobile" category to "Any% 2D", and have the mobile version of the game as a sub-category / platform
There's a few suggestions I'd like to make regarding run categories. Seeing as the mobile any% is starting to get a little more competitive, I think it'd be a good idea to implement more categories / sub-categories.
First and foremost, I think that across the board, milliseconds should be counted in the final time, since things are getting pretty optimized.
Newer versions of Hard Time restrict the customization of your character behind a paywall, effectively making it a game of chance before the run even begins for getting a character with good stats. The only workarounds to this are to either pay for the premium version of the game, or dig through seedy APK sites to get an earlier version of the game, so I believe there should be two seperate categories for both randomized runs and customized runs. Speaking of which:
Inherit Universe and Restore Default should have their own categories too, as Inherit Universe does exactly what it says, and saves the game's state between characters. In other words, if you move objects to certain locations or kill off NPC's on one save, those changes will carry over into new save files, and by extension, new runs. You could think of it as a sort of "New Game+" in how it works.
So earlier versions and character editing are allowed? Feels like there should be a different category for it
Discovered it completely on accident while trying to do the one where you jump from furniture. Turns out that glitch got patched on Hard Time, but now there's an even better one in its place
