Essentially just restricted but slower (and less fun); also is something like an AFAT vs AFAT spamming a glitch
The way I see it, it's slower but more accessible. Not everyone can perform glitches well, so a Glitchless category gives those people a chance to run as well. And I wouldn't count AFATs as glitches, as it's just manipulating intended mechanics.
I know saying “get good” is a stupid argument, but imo that really is my take here. Sure it is theoretically more accessible, but 1. Where do you draw the line between glitch and exploit, and 2. Just learn the tricks if you want to compete on a top level, or do another more known run if you don’t want to do a specific trick (i.e. Monkey-Slap%, etc.).
I've done more research into the AFAT, and determined that it is in fact a glitch. I didn't make my original conclusion with full knowledge, and I apologize for that. I'd define an exploit as using intended game mechanics for unintended uses, such as the FAT. Glitches would be unintended mechanics, such as wall clips and the like. And 2. its not neccessarily that I want to compete on a top level, as I'm well aware that every category has people more experienced than I, but that many other games have glitchless%, which allows runners with more skills with movement than taking advantage of glitches to be competitive instead of being left behind by those who can consistently chain button combinations together. By separating categories into technical skill and game skill it allows people on both sides to make potential WR runs.
Definitely a viable category I would say, I think it all comes down to the demand for it in the community. If it is being considered I would suggest a mod to make a poll in the discord asking if people would actually be interested/excited to run it, because there's no point if none of the players would want to go AFATless (which I think is silly).
the problem I see is that with games that do have glitchless categories it's mostly because the glitches they do have, skip literal levels of games (e.x. lunistice) and those that don't have those kinds of glitches but still glitches that skip major portions of the game but glitches that aren't offensive to the nature of the game have NMG instead of glitchless (e.x. hollow knight). From what I've seen of DKB it doesn't have anything like what I'm describing so a glitchless or NMG category makes no sense and you can just run the game without what you consider to be glitches but you're probably trying to say you want competition for your skill level which honestly the best argument is "get good" in the kindest way possible.
Agreed, the biggest skips are chicken jockey and mcskip and both save around 3 minutes. If you want to run without those you are only losing 6 minutes. Mcskip takes more practice but all the other clips can be done with little practice. As for the AFAT, it's extremely easy to do and without it you wouldn't even be able to do half the trick jumps, so a "glitchless" run would probably be no fun.
TL;DR:
Any% will be split into Restricted/No Divemash/Unrestricted, with the No Divemash category banning divemash on All Bosses.
