Seeing how quite a discussion has unfolded, I think it's worth creating a new thread to discuss how such a thing should be implemented and under which conditions.
I would encourage you to continue the discussion here to leave room for other stuff in the mission request thread.
Good Idea. thanks Xeenon! I wrote a much longer response in the other thread. Far longer than it needed to be. So I will write it a bit shorter here.
So it terms of the ruling and allowed strats for this leaderboard. I would like you know the opinion of all of the runners to understand how this will turn out. It could obviously be made into to different leaderboards but for simplicity I'd prefer to have just 1 leaderboard for each. If we get enough demand from people running it after we could then consider it but for now I think we will have to come to agree to how it will be set.
There are 2 options I see with a potential 3rd - (Which would be an agreed upon mix between both 1 & 2) but I'd prefer one of the latter 2 for simplicity:
1.) We can have finale leaderboards function as a sort of Glitchless leaderboard as to say, with it's own rules disallowing lots of more major glitches. As WITT worded it to me; Purists allowing for some small glitches such as Tab run and weapon switch reload glitch - yes these are debatably glitches which is why I wouldn't go as far as to call it glitchless but rather call this approach 'Purists' where you're staying true to not exploiting major glitches. I can't go into all of the glitches that would be disallowed with Purists but examples of such are including but not limited to: Buffered Ledge Grab, AD sprint/hanger glitch, character switch death warp/skip (mainly for Cayo Perico), 2p bike flight under map glitch. As stated these would Not be allowed.
2.) We would continue the rules of allowed & disallowed strats from the General rules on this site (basically allowing all glitches - it would be a glitches true leaderboard) rather than creating separate rules for the finale leaderboard exclusive to the rest of the leaderboards. So buffered ledge grab Would be allowed. Hanger glitch and other such glitches that are prohibited here on SR.com would be allowed.
But please note that regardless of which Rule set is the most popular. This is a Speedrun site rather than an elite speedrun site so finale runs will not need to be elite challenge compliant. E.G. you do not need to collect secondary targets in the Cayo Perico Heist, you don't need to secure the full kill count in Series A Original Heist & Act 1 Doomsday Heist as well as not needing the headshot count in Casino Heist Aggressive & Doomsday Heist Act 3 and the same said for other heists with requirements. The requirement for Heists to be Hard or not can also be discussed separately. The strat of killing yourself at the start of Cayo Perico Heist would be allowed unless fierce opposition to it. But for Humane Labs Raid finale this strat would be banned imo. The same with Skip trip for other finales. My opinion stays strong that even though this is a speedrun site. Skip trip Should Not Be Allowed! It is already allowed in the Full heist leaderboards where it makes sense too. But for here it doesn't imo.
Any questions or points you thing I have missed/you disagree with please reply below
Additionally here is a list of the finales that would get added:
Original Heists:
- Fleeca
- Prison Break
- Humane Labs Raid
- Series A
- Pacific Standard
Doomsday Heists:
- Act 1 - The Data Breaches
- Act 2 - The Bogdan Problem
- Act 3 - The Doomsday Scenario
Casino Heist approaches:
- The Big Con
- Silent & Sneaky
- Aggressive
Cayo Perico Heist:
- The Cayo Perico Heist
Note that the casino heist can be done aggressive and stealthily but both do not differ enough to warrant separate leaderboards.
Additionally. Unless popular demand, we won't be adding CBFR, OGFA, Auto shop contract's, or any other contract/mission set finales due to them not being strictly Not Heists, but rather just missions trying to be heists.. There lesser popularity also a big Reason why too.
If you would be in favour of having rule set 1 (Purist % / Glitchless *with exception to a few minor glitches)

If you would be in favour of having rule set 2 (Glitches True - having finale leaderboard abide by the rules of the rest of GTAO Sr.c)

I suggest we simply copy the rules from GTAForums for now. If any changes are needed later, we can refer to the edit timestamps for clarity. Nothing is set in stone—rules should remain flexible and open to updates at any time.
donig the past the speedruns a but storyline but a finished the yoga the missions Other a heists of feedback the support
question does the boost in Road Vigilante?

If you beleive this is the best way to do it then like my option 1. That is essentially just copying the rules from GTAF. I Am just leaving a vote up as an option incase players would like a different way of being able to run these from the way that is listed in GTAF
I would like to add that I will leave this message up for another 10 days for people to vote for what they would like. Meaning you get 2 weeks. from then I will start talking to WITT and implementing the leaderboards hopefully just a few days later.
Thanks to everyone who has given feedback so far!
Hello, I'm Respect_0815.
I came here after hearing that a new leaderboard is being created instead of using the old one.
First of all, I believe the leaderboard should be separated by framerate — specifically 60 FPS and high FPS. For example, in the Fleeca Job, lower framerates make the car significantly slower, which puts runners at a clear disadvantage in terms of time.
Also, regarding Option 1 (any%), we need to clarify what exactly is allowed. Is it just things like the Tab run and weapon switch reload glitch? Or are we following the rules from the old leaderboard (leaderboard-v3)? This needs to be decided.
Lastly, since the previous leaderboard wasn't really maintained, I think it would be a good idea to recruit moderators from different countries to ensure better management going forward.
Just leaving a comment here to show my support for the creation of this leaderboard. In my opinion, it doesn’t make sense that we haven’t had this LB for all these years of GTAO speedrunning. It would be great to have a well-organized LB with many categories, such as, Any%, Normal mode, Hard mode, Elite, Non-Elite, Full Take, Any Take, etc.
That's a fair point Cachorro. I will speak to WITT about it. We could see about having purist glitchless% and any% glitches true categories. but I am not too sure about normal and hard mode. and about casino heist I am not too sure about different takes any buyer positions. For the sake of speedrunning it might just end up being any take.
Seeing how many players continue to upload runs following the rules of the abandoned GTAForums leaderboard, there clearly is demand for a replacement. As such I don't think the "glitchless" and Elite Challenge requirements should be dropped. The argument that "this is a speedrun site rather than an elite speedrun site" doesn't make much sense in my opinion; every category has a certain set of rules/requirements and completing the Elite Challenge would just be one of them.
That being said, there is certainly a place for glitches and non-elite speedruns, so why not have leaderboards for those as well?
In my opinion there should be at least the following:
- a leaderboard following the rules of the current GTAForums leaderboard
- a leaderboard without restrictions on glitches
- a leaderboard for non-elite runs
In terms of timing, I would prefer the focus to be on real time since the Elite Challenge timer is notoriously broken and inaccurate (see this video for an extreme example). In almost every run the time you get is off by a few seconds (about ±2s) and with how competitive these heist finales are, that has a big impact.
Glad to see this getting added, a bit sad that it took 10 years, and so near to the end of GTAO's life cycle, but better late than never 🙂
Just an update now! We have added Finale Leaderboards now. As popular demand and by how the vote is split. We have added both Elite challenge & glitchless leaderboards. please start posting or running them if you are interested.
For now it is located next to Cayo Perico and has all the heist listed in it. But later in time when it is fulled up with some runs it'll get moved across to the first slot and be the default when launching GTAO page.
Happy speedrunning!
Very nice to see it implemented, but I have one point of criticism:
The RTA times for some of the Elite Challenge leaderboards (especially Prison Break) are somewhat nonsensical at the moment. The reason for having RTA on an Elite Challenge leaderboard isn't to measure a different time interval than the in-game timer, but to provide more accurate timing for the same segment of the mission. Therefore I think the Elite Challlenge category should have different timing rules, to correspond with what the in-game timer is meant to measure.
For most heists this would mean that timing starts at the beginning of the scene in which the introduction banner is shown, and ends when the hud disappears at the end of the mission.
For Prison Break, timing would start when the hud disappears before the cutscene in which Rashkovsky is collected, and end when the hud disappears before the cutscene in which players exit the Velum.
Pacific Standard, Casino Heists, and Act 3 would need to be seperately defined as well. (Maybe Cayo Perico as well, no clue how timing works there.)
Hello comrades :)
I would like to add my two cents to the discussion of rules, categories, etc., both in general and more specific details.
- Many argue about what is better, which glitches are normal and whether glitches are glitches at all, looking for some kind of ideal option. But why try to please everyone at once? It's impossible and a waste of time.
For those who don't like more complex, new, or just plain weird tricks, you can make a separate category—for example, Elite Challenge.
For those who just like to get through it quickly and don't care how (within reason), create a separate category—for example, any% (but don't try to limit any% with any additional rules beyond the basic rules for all runs).
- Many people also forget or do not attach importance to the basic terms “Challenge” and “Speedrun.”
Elite Challenge is first and foremost a Challenge, not a Speedrun. Just as Speedrun is first and foremost a Speedrun, not a Challenge.
It's just that a Challenge can be completed quickly, as can a Speedrun with certain complications/requirements, but these are the wishes of the players themselves.
Challenge is a certain type of playthrough with specific rules, including many nuances or preferences (Challenge - do something you haven't done before, do something that will be difficult, interesting, or unusual) - a path of restrictions, requirements, and desires.
Speedrun is completing the game as quickly as possible (Speed - go faster, Run - do it faster = go fastest as possible) - a path of freedom of action, just to be faster.
Requirement of doing either Elite or Elite Glitchless on Hard difficulty.
Currently the majority of runs (all top spots iirc) are run this way - I'm expecting this largely due the "Nobody gets wasted" requirement for 12/13 Elite Challenges.
One big exclusion to this is of course Ca
